Well Farmsisters, as this swap winds down, I want to thank you all for playing. It was so much fun. I only wish I had more feedsacks, so we could do it one more time. The sharing and stories you contributed were priceless. And the delightful retro items made with the humble feed sacks have been awesome to see. A parting recommendation for those of you who like to read. Check out "The Four Winds" by Kristin Hannah about a remarkable woman's survival during the Dust Bowl years. But have plenty of tissues handy. Thanks again for playing in this swap. I have my thinking cap on for some future swaps . . . . maybe I can come up with something for spools . . . . hmmmmmmmmm. And, don't forget as we live through continued challenges from this blasted pandemic -- "Use it up. Wear it out. Make it do. Do without."

Here are pictures of what I sent to Gail. I know she is visiting her mother and has been busy.

I made her a MJF Dish Drainer Quilt, a 3-layer cotton mask, a hanger cover (and, yes, Grace, I embellished it with yoyos), and a key holder that goes over your wrist. This was a fun swap. I chose the musical print fabric from the prints that Jean had. The Dish drainer quilt is backed with another cotton fabric with a lean towards Texas, and I used an eyelet trim around the edges instead of a self fabric ruffle.

Glad you like the items. The pot holder is really a jar opener & the coaster is a small basket to hold your thimble or your rings or whatever. I enjoyed making them & do hope you will enjoy them.

Joan, the jar opener is so clever! My husband has difficulty opening jars and this will be so helpful in the kitchen. Thank you for letting me know!

LOL . . . Kathy . . . . I'm pretty sure that package was for the Winter Mug Rug swap not the Feed Sack Project . . . but no matter, I'm just glad it arrived safely and that you like it. I love making mug rugs! Did you try to send an image with your posting? I see it shown but it didn't get uploaded. Try that again. Big Farmgirl hugs,
jean

Kathy - somehow you got a carriage return or space before the final ] - just need to edit to remove it and then picture should be fine.

Well, Katmom decided I should post pix of her feed sack loot even though she won't actually "get" it until she returns to Spokane in March. We figured by then everyone would have forgotten about this swap and be on to other fun things. Sew here 'tis. I made her a flyswatter apron from MaryJane's pattern, a pot holder, and a Vintage Hot Roll Holder. And, I cut all the scraps into yo yo circles for her and sent those to her in Southern California so she'd have something to work on while there. Well, wouldn't ya know the P.O. has lost the package. It's been in their non-trustworthy hands for over two weeks now. Hopefully it will surface before she leaves to come back home.

Darlene, Your pkg was in a trunk we have under our deck where mail, etc. is put in it if we have a lot of mail that won't fit in our mailbox. We forget to check it sometimes & I found mail & your pkg in it. So sorry about that!

I love the sewing mat with pockets on it. It is under my machine now. The basket is so cute! It is in my sewing room with stuff in it. I love the mugrug. I have to tell you that I considered making a block I have with that same dress in it as a little wallhanging for you, but decided on other things obviously. I just thought it was wild we liked the same dress pattern. It is in my sewing room as well but hanging on a little quilt stand I have. Thank you so much for the feedsack items!

Jean - would you please send me the pattern for the hot roll holder or a link to where you found it? I love your fabric combination. My grandmother had one of those. I love it! Thanks.

Jean, This swap was so much fun! I would love to participate in another one, especially if you hosted it. You give us so much inspiration that it was just wonderful! I thought maybe we could round up another bunch of Feed Sacks and do it again. I have six Feed Sacks I would like to donate to another swap. Maybe other Farmgirls have some they would donate. Would you be interested in hosting another swap? Is there any interest in doing another Feed Sack swap?

Absolutely!! I'd be happy to host another one if we can turn up enough feed sacks. You have six. Let me see what I can turn up.

Thanks sew much for your interest. This was wonderful to study about too. If you think about it, folks who were little kids During the Great Depression are "very" Senior Citizens now. So Farmgirls if you have any of these Depression kids still around in your families, please get them to tell you about their experiences. This is part of our history and shouldn't be lost.

I am just finishing up reading "Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck. I probably read it in a literature class ages ago but in my self-centered youth, didn't take the messages to heart. His writing style is magical. I urge all of you to find a copy and read it. His prose is unequaled.
Farmgirl hugs,
jean

I would love to join in on another feed sack swap, I have one feed sack and lots of reproduction prints. 30's have always been a favorite choice of fabric for me, Lord knows I wore plenty of the original sacks when I was a kid. Grandma would save the feed sacks and a couple of times a year we girls would get to pick out our favorites and mom would make our new "wardrobe" LoL. Here is a recliner quilt that I made from reproduction fabric.
