Compost -used Coffee Grounds
Adding the coffee grounds to the compost pile with other kitchen and garden waste is the simplest way to use them. Despite its brown color, coffee grounds constitute green waste similar to grass cuttings and weeds from your garden.

Fireplace:
If you’re using a wood-burning stove or fireplace, you know very well how ash dust rises and spills into the room when you try to clean out the grate. If you sprinkle the damp grounds over the ashes before removing them, it will keep the dust down and you will get a mixture ready for composting.
limit coffee grounds to 10% of your compost pile by volume.

WOOD Furniture:
Unsightly scratches on wooden furniture can be covered up using nothing but leftover coffee. Mix equal parts used grounds and water and let it sit for a couple of minutes before rubbing it over the scratch.
AIR Freshener:
Coffee smells great and used coffee is no exception. Making an air freshener from used grounds is simple. Just wait for your grinds to dry out fully and them put them in an old sock or pair of tights and tie the end off.

HAIR:
Coffee grinds are a natural exfoliate and very effective.
try massaging used coffee grounds into your hair?

It may sound crazy but this will remove the chemical buildup of shampoos and dead skin from your hair and your scalp and leave your hair looking soft and shiny.
If you do it regularly your hair may also go a bit darker, too! lol

The rough grounds will also exfoliate your scalp which can boost the rate of hair growth and the caffeine in the beans, if used regularly can suppress the production of DHT – a hormone which causes hair loss! Coffee, is there anything it can’t do?

Kitty Litter- smells great and its a non toxic deodorizer

Deborah thanks for all the good hints. I have one to add to your list. I have put coffee grinds on fire ant beds. Doesn't kill them but does move them away from outside animals and walkways.

I've been leafing through my new book "How to Cook a Wolf, by M.F.K. Fisher, during WWII in 1942 hence it's name.

There's a whining at the threshold,
There's scratching at the floor,
To work! To work! In heaven's name!
The wolf is at the door!
by C.P.S. Gilman

The above saying was in the book and pretty much tells me what the book is all about - getting by in hard times.

I've written all the above to write this. Dry coffee grounds and use to stuff pin cushions. Will keep pins from rusting and won't pack down.

Wonderful! Yes I like the smell but have learned that most critters do not like it and.. the high acid level keeps bugs at bay. I sprinkle mine around the perimeter of my home and also in the edges of my garden. Thanks for all the great ideas and I will be making a pin cushion to see how that is too. Sounds like a good use. I also save all my rinsed out egg shells for crafts and for the garden.

Coffee grounds make a great painting medium. The amount of water is the gradient for colors light to dark.

Roses love coffee grinds, by the way! Love this post, especially the tip from Sara. What a great idea for the pincushions! Can’t wait to try.
