Blue gingham-and unbleached muslin dating from the 30's is my guess, but I have no clue as to what pattern she chose. The squares are tiny and then there are those diagonal bits.

Any ideas as to the name of the pattern would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

It looks like a Jacob's Ladder variation

Judith! That's it!! About 100 years ago I made a traditional Jacob's Ladder in red and white-I sold it at an Amish auction that took consignment quilts. The gingham quilt looked really familiar but I just couldn't see it....Thankyou!

It's a group of 4 patches making the main block and triangles making the pathways. Gorgeous.

I did a little research on the quilting pattern for Jacobs Ladder or sometimes referred to as Underground Railroad....the pattern is based on what they used to call Bible "blocks." It's about a dream Jacob had that revealed a ladder leading up to Heaven-Jacob was fleeing Esau at the time the dream occurred- I believe its from Genesis. "Jacob I have loved, Esau I have hated...from Malachi. Anyway, I have always loved the old spiritual song-We are Climbing Jacob's Ladder and I was so pleased to discover that my quilt is based on that! Made me cry.....Don't you love it when you find a quilt with some History behind it?

I had several books that gave history of quilt bock patterns. It was very interesting to read the history of blocks. Some of them have several names. History is all around us. I did a major clean out of the sewing room recently and hope I saved at least one of them. Barbara Brackman was the author of a couple of them.

Thanks Judith...I'll check out our local library on Monday to see if they have any books by her. Yes, history is all around us-but there is something very personal about vintage quilts isn't there?

Beautiful quilt
