While on vacation we stopped in at an antique mall in Indiana, near the border of Ohio. My husband said - how much are featherweights usually? I told him they can range anywhere from $200-$1,000 depending. I already have 2 that I purchased off eBay for $210-250. After looking at a few other things, we went over to look at the machine. It was in great shape cosmetically, however turning the wheel forward the needle would not move. The price on the tag was $350, and I went up to the front to see if the man at the counter would call the booth owner so I could speak with her. He gave me her number and I went back to the machine and my husband. While I was gone he had been working with the wheel, and when I got back, he had loosened it up and the needle was rising and falling as it should, though there was still one spot that had a slight hesitation. I called the owner and told her what we had found and asked if she would take less for the machine. She said she would take $300. I told her that due to the hesitation in the wheel I would take it to have it serviced as soon as I got home and my shop charges around $129 to do that. She said she would take $250, and I said I would take it.
BTW: For those of you who know Singer featherweight machines, in looking it over at the shop, I noticed that the emblem was different than my other machines; this machine had a blue ring around the emblem and is a Centennial machine. The wording in the blue says "A Century of Sewing Service *** 1851 * 1951 ***"; in the gold center of the emblem is "The Singer Manfg. Co. and the shuttle and 2 needles Trademark". It is a special featherweight issue, celebrating 100 years of singer machines, and only a limited number of them were produced. When we got home I looked up the serial number and the chart says it was commissioned October 31, 1951. I think I got a great deal!
   
 
It will go to get a physical next week. Also included was the case (in very good condition), foot pedal and cords, original book, and some attachments, including 2 keys for the case. This case is different than my other 2 with the pedal holder on the inside top. I googled featherweight cases and there are many versions and I have 3 of them. Lol. Things changed over the years included the handles, latches, and interior lift-out shelves and oil can holders for a few. Very interesting.
At another antique shop in Ohio I found this Greist Decorative Zigzagger with 4 discs (and another disc already in the unit). I asked how much this was and she said $5.00. I'm not sure what machine this will fit, but it WILL fit one or more of my treadles or my 128s or my 301 or my 401 or my featherweights. I know it will find a home.

WOW, what an amazing find Linda, and the Centinnial model at that!
A day hemmed in prayer is less likely to unravel.

Congratulations on your new baby! The zig-zagger will fit any low shank sewing machine; pretty much all your Singers going back to 1885 or so. Also Necchi and most other brands but not White and a few others.

Thanks, Judith. That's kinda what I thought. And I sure have eoungh old machines - mostly singer.
I also knew that five dollars was a good buy. They sell for around $20 and up on eBay. Can't wait to try it out on one of my machines.

Linda, I have your machine's long lost sibling..
It was in the Dec 1950 production line.. with the Centennial plate on it...
I'll have to go take photos and post your machine's sibling!

Wow! You got a great machine at such a wonderful price. I've owned over 30 Featherweights. Now I own the most beat-up one and it sews beautifully. I often wonder what stories she could tell me. Named after my Nana, Marie.Enjoy your baby.
