Oh my stars! Look what I found at the thrift, and for just $4.99.
This quilt is well-made, it’s not a factory made quilt, true handmade. And in fabulous condition.
I am guessing someone made it and gave it as a gift and for whatever reason the recipient chose not to keep it, or could not keep it. Or maybe the Person who made the quilt past and Family did not have any use for it. Whatever the sad story, I am grateful to now own it.
It is perfect size as a twin bed coverlet.
I’ve hand washed it, and let it dry and then stuck in the dryer with disinfectant Just to be safe..
It still looks lovely. I can hardly wait for Fourth of July when I can put it on display.

It looks like it could have been a Quilt of Valor that quilt guilds give to veterans.

Me too. Other than good pyrex my thrift stores suck. Am I allowed to use that word?

Whatever the sad story is on that quilt... and I am positive it is sad. I am so glad that you rescued it!!! The work looks exquisite and deserved to be with someone who cares and knows it's value!

I've rescued several quilts - a couple are vintage or can be used as wall hangings. Two I rescued last year are "cutter" quilts because they have too many tears in them.

I plan to make pillows, a vest or two, and other smaller items from them, a couple for me and some to sell. I also want to make a few gnomes with the quilts as their clothing and I'll add a hat, beard and noses. LOL!

DH brought a very grubby old quilt home that he found in an abandoned cabin on a hunting trip . It's rather tattered and took several gentle washings. All hand sewed and quilted and appears to be from 1960s-70s from the fabrics used. Looks like it had a lot of love.
