Hello Fellow Farmgirls...
This year I'm again offering my SkyLines Farm Hands-On Lambing School workshop March 1, 2008, 8:30am to 3:00pm.
For anyone interested in learning small-scale sustainable sheep production, this daylong event is a great starting point. Spend the day with me, my 60 breeding ewes, and their babies. I'll lead participants through discussion, demonstration, and hands-on experience in all the major aspects of lambing.
Topics include: Styles of lambing management, stages of labor and when to intervene, normal and abnormal deliveries, care of the newborn lamb, lamb problems, banding tails, castrating and tagging lambs, bottle lambs, udder management, pre-and-post lambing nutrition...and much more.
This is real-life, hands-on, on a real working sheep farm. The workshop is intentionally scheduled in the middle of my 2008 lambing season so it's very possible that one or more ewes will deliver their lambs as you watch. (For last year's Lambing School an obliging ewe dropped her lambs just as the group entered the barn! Short videos on the farm website).
Cost for Lambing School 2008 is $75/person including lunch. Class size is limited to 10 participants, to ensure an intimate, hands-on experience for everyone.

We do pigs, but one of my best friends does sheep with her girls. She is by no means "green" but is always looking to learn more, so I will pass this info. on to her. Thanks for letting us know.

Oh my...that sounds just wonderful!!! I don't have as many sheep as I used to (since I got Mona I just have two ewes) but I love working with sheep and always feel like they could be my main thing someday....what a great opportunity!!
