Sweet springtime on the dairy farm, and Buddy is a cutie pie.

Took me a minute to figure out what a "butter calf" was, she'd have knocked me over before I caught on. These photo updates are delightful!

LOL! Sorry, I've been posting about the calves for so long I forget that not everyone knows what I'm talking about. For some reason some of the calves are just little butt heads. They knock over their buckets and take out your knees if they can reach you. A couple years ago one was so bad about it we actually named her Butter!

Hello sweet sisters! I’m here this evening to ask for some help. I have been struggling as of late. I seem to be in a funk and can’t pull myself out. There has been a lot of stress in my life (many things are out of my control some involving my daughters.). Moms just need to worry, right? lol. I will be making a Dr appt tomorrow in order to talk to talk to my Dr about adjusting my depression meds. They really don’t seem to working as well as before. On top of that, I seem to be struggling with my purpose right now. I feel unuseful. Almost like wandering through my days with out direction. I get my chores done, but I’m struggling with the joy finding. I hope this makes sense. So I’m here to ask what you all do when you get down. What brings you joy? What makes you smile? I’m open to all suggestions at this point. Sending you much love and hugs from Kennewick WA!! :)

Karen :)

Karen,
I understand where you are on the purpose and finding joy again. Prayer has been major for me. Emailing you.

Karen, I understand perfectly! I have been where you are and slowly getting better. When my son got married, I was ecstatic because he had truly met his soulmate. I always worried about him being an only child, but now knew he would have someone by his side after we were gone. BUT THEN…..when the excitement of the wedding wore off, I was lost and struggling to find my purpose in life and the joy in my everyday life. I have two articles I would like to send you, and I do hope your doctor can help. PLUS don’t forget to pray everyday, like my tagline says, it truly does help! Sister love and BIG (((((Hugs)))))

Feeling like you're in a rut is no fun. Hopefully the doctor, articles, emails, and prayers we are sending you help!

Things I sometimes turn to in order to reboot--

1. Exercise, even a longish walk without screens/media can help even if it doesn't feel like "proper" sweaty exercise. If you live in an area with some places that have foot traffic, it can be fun to keep a mental count of how many you greeted. I also enjoy silly dancing as exercise either in private following along to a YouTube instructor or in something like a Zumba class if I am feeling a little more brave.
2. Pinterest scrolling for levity (with limits). I started a "LQTM" (aka "laughing quietly to myself") board that I will visit and add to if I'm feeling particularly blue. I think you can find it here if you want to get started or just cringe at my warped sense of humor -- https://www.pinterest.com/bellepic/lqtm/
3. Misogi/bucket list. A book I just finished (The Comfort Crisis by Michael Easter) suggests taking on an audacious challenge ("Misogi") about annually, ideally something physical in nature that you think you have a 50-50 shot of actually completing. The one he cataloged for the book was hunting caribou in Alaska for a month. This was all a bit too intense for me, but I do keep a running "bucket list" of adventurous projects to work on which can help life feel more purposeful. The MJF merit badges were a good place to go for some ideas.

Karen - big hug to you! I'm going to suggest something that will probably make you think I'm nuts. Everyone does when I tell them to try it LOL! Fill your bath tub up with cold water (as cold as you can from the faucet) and you guessed it - get in! You'll do some hootin' and hollerin' at first but after a few days it won't be so bad. I promise you'll survive. I did this every day for a year. Now I do it occasionally. I did it for different reasons, but it helps with anxiety and depression. And you don't need to be in there very long. Research shows there are benefits when you're in for as little as 3 minutes. You might even get some results if you just put your feet in to start :)

Has anyone else ever done something that you thought was a great idea, only to later wonder what on earth you were thinking? I may have gotten a bit carried away with the berry picking:

Yes, that's 9 buckets.

Cherries sound wonderful! Our tree has lots of them on there, but they're not even close to being ready yet (thankfully LOL)

Here's what I've been doing:

Some go in the freezer

Some get made into syrup

Most are getting dehydrated

But these are the biggest hit! Everyone LOVES them and I keep having to make more :)

Fresh Strawberry Cookies:
1 egg
2TBS lemon juice (I was out so I didn't use it and they were great!)
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup sugar
1 3/4 cup flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 cup chopped strawberries (I use my liquid measuring cup and fill it up so it's slightly more than a cup)

Preheat oven to 350. Line cookie sheet with parchment. Whisk together egg, lemon juice, butter, vanilla, and sugar. Add flour and baking powder. Mix until combined. Gently add berries; stir until combined. Form into golf ball sized balls and place on cookie sheet (I use my cookie scoop) if desired you can sprinkle them with sugar but I've never done it. Bake ~15 minutes. Let cool completely and store in airtight container in the refrigerator.

Those Strawberries look delicious Heather. I can’t wait to try the cookies. It has been a hot minute since I have been here, but as always life happens and family comes first. Karen I am saying prayers for you and will send you an email soon. Now that I can stay home and enjoy the rest of my summer I will be in the garden, on the deck reading or on the boat fishing. Looking forward to all 3.
