It’s here, October is finally here, I am so excited:-) I will have so much fun this month, I Love October.
So, let’s have some fun. Please tell me why you are happy October is here and what fun things do you do to enjoy October? Do you go to festivals or other fun things? Do you cook special meals and make hot cider? Last but never least do you like/love Halloween and how do celebrate and/or decorate? I want to hear it all and of course I will let you know why I love October and all it entails:-)
And I will be having a give away, something special.
Thank you all Happy October!

Big Hugs,
Debbie

HaPpY October! This is my most favorite month be cause we finally get a break in the weather, (though today's high is supposed to be 87 it will pass quickly) and it really starts to look like fall. We get all the color changes. I love that I can transition more toward soups and stews in my cooking. Plus I love sweater weather!! We do not celebrate Halloween per se. I mean I don't decorate for it but we usually pass things out when then little ones and even big ones come around. I would much rather see the older coming than them getting into mischief otherwise. The grands come over here to go around the neighborhood as they don't have sidewalks where they are. Then they come in to sort candy and have hot cocoa and cookies or a couple of their treats. October has always been my favorite month. We have 2 family birthdays this month also the we celebrate. So lots of fun to be had!

I’m looking forward to a 10 day vacation to the Oregon Coast! Our condo will face the ocean so we can sit and watch the waves crash into the rocks while sitting in front of a fireplace! John and I will also meet up with Tom ad Debbie Fischer! We will meet up with them in a small town half way between our condo and Coos Bay! Super excited to spend more in person time with them!

I also love October because…well…Pumpkins! I love pumpkins! I will use them to decorate for fall but will add Halloween decor amongst them. I love baking with pumpkin too! Pumpkin cake, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin pie….I don’t drink coffee so I’m not a PSL girl, but if you bake pumpkin into something, I am a happy girl! :) The Original Pancake House Restaurant has the most incredible pumpkin pancakes.

Once we are home from our trip, I hope to go to a local pumpkin patch to get pumpkins for my porch. I will also do a 4 day card making event at the end of the month. To celebrate Halloween, John and I will bake something pumpkiny and “treat” our family members by delivering the goodies to their house! :)

Karen :)

Debbie does your Grandgirls want you to decorate for Halloween or dress up? Do you get many kiddos to give out candy too?
Sadly where we live is so rural and there are no young kiddos around:-(

For me, the best part of October is that it's the beginning of Christmas! The decorations are coming out in the stores, it's time to get serious about making gifts, and of course there are new cookie recipes to try out :) I also like that it's the end of the summer rush. Haying is done, the garden is almost done, most of the calves are born and weaned. (We only have hay fields so we don't have the autumn harvest like a lot of farmers) I love the cozy fire and the chilly mornings when I take a cup of hot tea or hot chocolate out with me for the morning chores. And as much as I like my summer flip flops, I love putting on a sweater and one of my 50 pair of boots (no, I don't really have that many, but I do have quite a few lol). I do have a few Halloween decorations, mostly from swaps over the years, but we don't really do anything to celebrate Halloween.

I hope you ladies have wonderful weather and safe travels!

Here's a recipe I'm going to be trying soon for pumpkin chocolate chip bread:

Well I love October now that we are on the coast of SC because we will get a break from the heat!! I love all of the colors as the leaves change and fall, plus it’s time to plug up the crockpot for soups and beans and chili, you know all the cozy stuff! I love wearing Sweaters, hoodies and socks this time of year too.I have had to adjust to coastal life, bare legs and tank tops is not really my comfort zone, for the heat yes, but I’m not comfortable baring so much skin, LOL. Give me crisp cool air, wooded walks across crunchy leaves and a fire any day!! That is my happy place!!

A day hemmed in prayer is less likely to unravel.

I think that the girls would think it was fun if I dressed up but I never have. When the neighbor kids were small, we would get a few trick or treaters but we just have the girls stop by now on their way. It's a lot of driving between houses out here for their parents but they have fun. I do decorate for fall and Merit has been asking if we can please get out the pumpkin collection but I was holding off on them until October. I will probably put them out soon. I just checked on my Indian corn but it's not ready to bring in to put on the porch.
I think October is the prettiest month in central Oregon! The mornings are cool but the afternoons are nice and the sunsets are over the top! The leaves are changing...the irrigation water is shut off (BEST.DAY.EVER!!!) Farming is quiet and the days have slowed down. It's not quite hibernation season but it's a nice pace around here. I love the anticipation of knowing that the holidays are coming and getting ready for them!

Boy wouldn’t it be fun Debbie to surprise Merit and dress up a bit. I bet you would have everything you need for some costume. Cowgirl, princess, old lady anything:-)
Thank you for sharing and all the rest. It’s fun:-)

So I guess most of you know I really am not a fall girl more summer but….I do look fall as then I get to celebrate Halloween! I love everything about it, pumpkins, witches, crow, bats, trick or treating and dressing up as a witch just to name a few. I really enjoy going to our Local Ranch to pick out my pumpkin, and the biggest Sunflowers I have ever seen. They really do grow the most amazing Sunflowers. I enjoy their hay ride, cider and yummy food. A couple of years ago the kids were here for the Halloween season and we took them to the ranch. All of us really had fun but that Wally! Girls it was so fun watching him as a 2 year old playing the games etc. He ran and played hard so he fell asleep almost right away on the hay ride:-) This photo he is still awake but barely :-)
More later:-)
