I'm Linda. I relocated from California last summer to Wichita. LONG story for later. I went from a rural house to a city apartment. It has been a HUGE adjustment that I am still undergoing! Fight 'the blues' at times. But, working thru it and that has been with the help and friendship of you great farmgirls! I have grown kids and some of them have kids. Love being Grandma! Faith and family are very important to me. I love ALL things country, farms, ranches, cowboys, you get the idea! Looking forward to our chapter experiences!

Hi, I'm Brenda, (Classygram). Grew up in Kansas right in the middle of the big city. Thought I'd never leave it. Made the move 36 years ago to a small town, Pleasant Hill, In Missouri. At first I thought oh man, what have I got myself into. But I got right in there and went out and met the town people and joined a church and have been involved ever since. I'm in my second marrage, and I have two grown children. And 5 wonderful grandkids that can keep me very busy. Linda and I was talking the other day about how country she is, really loves the country life. We laughed, because I love some of it, but also love that city. And probable always will. But I seem to fit in and get along pretty well with all the farmers here. This is going to be so much fun and can't wait to get going.

Hi! I'm Kathy (KanMogirl). I grew up on a farm near Collins, Missouri than moved to Kansas when I was 24 years old. My parents were tenant farmers until I was about 17. At that time, they bought a smaller farm. We raised cattle and hogs, and grew crops. In Kansas, I first lived in Eldorado. I moved to Wichita when I met my husband. We lived in Wichita until we moved to Rock in 1986. We live on about 40 acres. We don't farm. I mostly grow flowers and tomatoes. I'm going to try more vegetables this year. We have three grown daughters which none of them married, yet. We didn't want to raise our children in Wichita so we looked for something in the country when our oldest was one. My husband grew up in town but really likes the country. I can't wait to learn and meet more of you.

Linda, what side of the house does you balcony sit? I planted some veggie' and herbs last year. Had them out on the North side of the house. Never got an ounce of shade. They dried up real fast. My neighbor planted his on the east side and they did so much better because they did have the relief of the afternoon shade. But don't go by what I say, I'm not the true blue farmer!hahaha Good luck and let us know how they do. Katherine let me know what you are planting! My mom loves Kale. So I think I'm going to fix her a small pot of kale that she can take care of. I don't care for it and I figure a small amount would be enough for her until she tires of it.

I am going to plant some tomatoes, peppers, sweet potatoes for sure. I forgot what else. I am waiting for my orders to come.
I ordered some of them from a junior class fundraiser and they are supposed to be in this week. I think I ordered a stevia plant from a catalog Oh, you are welcome to call me Kathy instead of Katherine.

Stevia is a natural substitute sweetener. I think it is originally from South America. Probably a lot of farmgirls don't know what it is either.

Can you purchase the stevia plant at the local nursery? Or does it have to be ordered through a special place? What can you do with the stevia plant? Is it like mint and you just pinch off a leaf to use to sweeten? Does it flower? I'm going to have to do a search on this! Thanks girls, something new to learn about.
Hugs!

That is great with the stevia. How do you directly from the plant use it? I have only got it from the health food stor in bottles, pretty expensive!

Brenda, the balcony gets shade and sun as there is a HUGE tree (love it) in the couryard area below. So, I can pretty much control the amount of sun? Not sure how well it will go, but anxious to try. Its my lil part of country in the city. Sat there with my morning coffee today. Sooo glad winter left! A blessed day everyone! Linda
