Ladies, this weekend I will begin a 'story'. The idea is for each of you to take a turn in adding onto the story. Perhaps a paragraph or two from each of you? When everyone has contributed, we will have a fun little story we all wrote together and I can print out the finished story and send out to everyone!! Sound good??

Here is the beginning of our story!!!
Life was not always easy for Clara. Yet, even with all she had gone thru, the events of the last several days had been a surprise, even to her! She was determined to get to the bottom of it all and unearth the answers she needed. 'If only, if only,' she kept thinking to herself. She had spent most of her life in this old farmhouse, and was not going to give up on herself now!
The next morning, she felt a new surge of energy and peace. The night before seemed destined to be long and fretful. However, once her head hit the pillow, the worries and stresses of the day disappeared under complete exhaustion. She was so grateful for a restful sleep, and began the new day feeling more at peace and grateful. 'It is nice to see the beautiful sunrise this morning', she thought to herself as she reached for another plate to dry. Suddenly, her temporary calm was gone once she heard the loud banging on the front door...........

She knew in her heart, before even heading to the door, who this must be. After the message she received a couple of weeks ago she has been expecting this. For a quick prayer to God for direction in this matter, she headed toward the door. She must stay strong to protect her children and her land. The children have been hurt to much with all the changes and she was determined to make this land a working farm that will support all of them. As she attempted to answer the door, she felt a heaviness come over her heart. Than a light soft touch on her shoulder and new at once the Lord was with her and will see her through this.

As sure as the nose on my face, Charles was banging on the door to let him in. I had the chain on the door and slightly opened it to tell him, to come back when he was in a more mild temperment. He turned around and then said, "Clara we will have this conversation." And off he went. That night as dusk was moving in, my mind was just whirling. So many question's? When do I tell the children that he had been here? Do I allow him to see them?? I've just begun to calm them and try to take care of the mess that he left the farm in, do I dare to trust him? Then a peaceful feeling came over me and I decided he was not going to spoil my favorite time of day. So I took my tea out on our large wrap around porch and just sat and watched the stars appear. And spent time with the Lord before I settle in for the night.

Just before I got up to go in to bed, I saw a falling star in the sky. I took this as a sign from God that I could handle anything Charles threw at me. The cup of tea and my conversation with God had helped clear my mind for a little while. Oh, I knew there would still be tough times dealing with Charles and managing the farm but I had some ideas on how I and the children could make it a working farm again.

Clara knew that with God's grace she and the children could bring this poor farm back to life. Inspite of being left alone to deal with the nightmares left behind by Charles and his wicked ways. This would mean countless hours of cleaning, plowing, mowing and cleaning the old barn and hen house. But,Clara had been born and raised on this farm and by gosh she was going to bring it back to life for her and the children. She gathered her wits and headed out the door...

Going down the porch steps, Clara made a mental note that the steps needed some work on them. It would sure be nice to paint this ole house. As she looked up, Charles was was coming up the driveway in that old beatup red pickup of his. By the signs of the flying gravel, he probably wasn't in any better mood than he was last night. He just wouldn't give up. "Okay, Clara, stay calm. You can't let him push your buttons. His accusations are false," Clara thought as she stood her ground at the yard gate.

"What is wrong with me! Before marriage I was a very strong woman. Now here I stand, shaking and very fearful" Clara just couldn't clear her mind of all the wrongs he had brought into this marriage. Knowing that he hasn't changed an ounce, she continued to pray he would. Her idea of family was a home with both parents. As she came back to the moment, she saw the look upon his face and her strenght began to come out. She will not let him hurt her children again. They can't live with the yelling and fights he liked to start. She brushed her hair back and straightened her back and was determined he was not going to get the best of her. Than she heard him say,"Clara I love you."

'oh, Lord, grant me strength and wisdom', Clara prayed silently to herself. When she had said her wedding vows to Charles, she meant them 'as unto the Lord' for life, for better or worse. However, as Charles drinking and abusive ways began to hurt the children, Claras love for him and her faith began to weaken. Now here he was, once again, swearing he would change, and trying, even hoping, that yet another , 'I love you' would melt Clara's hurt, fear and anger. He truly did hope to make things right.

But he was going to have to do more than just say so. He was going to have to give me proof that he was really trying to change. He was going to have to agree to counseling. "Charles, saying you love me isn't enough anymore," Clara responded. Continuing before he could argue, "You've got to prove to me you are willing to change by going to counseling but I'm not making any promises to let you move back in. We'll have to see how things go with the counseling."

| Clara's stubbornness kicked in with a vengeance. "He is still trying to manipulate me!" Clara thought. She squared her shoulders, looked him in the eyes and said, "No, YOU will go alone and we will see what happens." She had decided before coming back that she would make this farm work with or without a man, and she was sticking to her guns. Clara continued,"You will not manipulate me or the situation. If and when I see you making any progress, we'll talk. Until then, don't push your luck!" |

Clara turned and walked toward the barn. The livestock had waited long enough for their breakfast and she had a lot of other choirs to get finished. Nothing would be accomplished standing and arguing like this. Charles stomped back to his truck, got in, and sped out of the driveway.

Clara realized that she had taken care of the livestock and can't even remember doing it. When charles comes around, that's all that clutters her mind. Why did he have to show up now, when I'm trying so hard to survive without him. She knew she would always have a little love for him, he is the father of her children. But she has lost all respect for him. What does the Lord want me to do. I know he doesn't want us to be bringing our children up in a broken home, yet how do I handle the lying and drinking and being irrisponsible. She then realize that she had not gone to the Lord to help guide her through all of this. Charles seems to bring this type of mindset on her. After many years of this behavior from Charles, she had found that the Lord is the one with all the answers. She headed back to the house and gathered up her praying shawl and bible and headed back out to the grove of trees down in the valley.

'OH MY!!!', Clara thought as she stretched and yawned. 'Goodness, I must have fallen asleep!' Her favorite spot of trees became her praying place on a daily basis now, ever since the ultimatum she had give Charles several years ago to this day. Then, she suddenly remembered the dream she just had, or perhaps more of a nightmare. It had been years since that day. She never dreamed that Charles could ever change. So fearful of being dissapointed again, yet finally, after so many years and so many hours of counseling and prayer......

he's here and willing to give his all if I go alone with him. Oh Dear Lord, what do you think I should do????? This is going to take some thought, I can't just rush into this like so many things that I have. And than later, wish I hadn't. I'm going to spend alot of time out in the trees with my bible and in prayer. I have my children to consider here and I aim to protect them, no matter what........

'Oh, thank you so Lord for the many blessings You have given Charles and I', she could not help but smile. So much had happened within the last few years, the fears of truly 'letting go and letting God'! As she sat beneath the trees and reflected on all the Lord had done to heal her marriage, let alone the faith and strength within Charles. With couseling and trust in God, he had truly become a changed man. Putting the pieces of their lives back together had not been easy. However, to see the Lord work, to see the miracles He did with the farm as well, was almost an overwhelming sense of peace. At last they were truly at home as a family. With Bible in hand, she go up and headed past the trees, down the path towards the farm and family that she loved so dearly.
THE END
