Hay there, Sisters!!!
WE HAVE A HEN HOUSE !!!
We are officially set up now so we can post to this site as well as the other forums. I am so excited for all of us...it has been a long time coming but we have arrived !!!
So did you all get a binder? How many sections does your have? I am placing all of you in mine on page one. Then my section dividers will begin. I will have one for all the badges and their requirements. After each badge I am adding a few blank pages to write down how I am attaining the badge and when I started. Its a place to keep track. Once I am ready to send off for the badge I will write down my paragraph before I submit it to the FARM. That way I have my own record. Once the FARM approves my efforts and sends me my badge I can print it and add it to the badge pages.
Did you find your Henrietta? I have been sewing on mine but am not quite finished. I will keep stitching away til I'm done. Its part of the embroidery badge.
Tell me about what is going on with ya'll.... |

First of all thank you, Daizy, for putting this all together. I put together a binder last summer to keep track of my merit badges. My goal was to earn one in each category, and I almost made it, too. I've never been one for camping, but I truly do want to stretch myself in this area. I've embroidered my Henrietta and a few of my badges. The only problem is I didn't realize my badges were bigger than Henrietta until after I had finished with a couple. I don't think it is supposed to be that way. What are you going to do with yours? I've thought about pillows and bags and lampshades and bulletin boards, but I just haven't made up my mind. I'll try to post pictures soon. |
Blessings,

Ok, so again..I would just like to share. My sewing skills are next to none so I haven't sewn Henrietta on anything. When I first joined the sisterhood, (about the time I just started engraving) I did a very small engraving on a piece of colored glass. Now that my skills have improved, I am planning to engrave her on a larger piece of glass. Also I have been thinking of getting one of the family type photo frames with several photo slots and engraving merit badges on it to hang on the wall. As I get new badges I can add to it. I have yet to complete the requirements and turn them in for merit badges though. I hope that being in the henhouse will help me stay on track with the merit badges--I am a master procrastinator. |

Rachel, I hear you on the procrastinating part! I am recovering perfectionist and procrastinating is part of that package for me. I admire your tenacity to learn an art such as engraving. Maybe you will be able to share some pictures of your work with us at some point. Have you thought about using fabric pens and coloring your badges rather than stitching them? Obviously, I know nothing about engraving, but I imagine the manipulation of a pen would be closer to the action of the engraving tool than pulling threads. Just a thought. Hope you have a great and creative day! |

Yahoo! I finally made into the hen-house! I located Henrietta, now I just need to find the thread to do the embroidery and hope my fingers loosen up enough to hold the needle. :) It is so nice to be a part of a group of like minded women. Has anyone worked on their binder? I have a binder, and made a sort of cover for, just a design really, that I intend to reproduce with scrap-booking stuff. As I was writing a list of topics for the indexes I thought there should be one with a member list so as to keep track of all our hen-house members. What do you think? Is that okay with all of you? Mz Daizy can you provide us a list of all of us who have joined our hen-house?
Another index is for projects; and another for badge requirements, checklist and of course badges. I am certain I will think of more as time moves forward.
Rachel, You may not embroider, but you can engrave! That is awesome! I can't wait see how you put Henrietta onto glass, it will be beautiful.
Carol, When you mentioned using fabric pens to color Henrietta it reminded me of something I did back in the 70's with crayons. We would "color" and embroidery design using crayons then by pressing it with a hot iron on the back side (I think it was the backside) of the fabric the color became permanent. I did a tunic using this technique and it looked great and the color never faded.
I am currently working on a Friendship Quilt which I have posted on Farmgirl Swap forum. It is a simple block which even newbies to sewing will be able to create with ease. In the center of the block the maker signs her name, city and state with indelible ink such as a Sharpie. It takes 40 blocks to make a lap-quilt which is the simplest of quilts to make since it doesn't require batting and can be machine quilted with simple straight rows of stitching. I thought this would be a great project for our Hen-House to work on for a Merit Badge. There are photos of the quilt, and one of my blocks as a sample, on the Farmgirl Swap Forum under Friendship Quilt Anyone? Email me your mailing address and I will add you to the member list that I send out along with the instructions for making the block.

Wow, Kathleen! I can hear your enthusiasm in every word! Cheers!! So who gets the quilt in the end? Does each person make just one block or one block for each person participating (like a cookie swap)? I think it is such a neat idea. Maybe I'll mosey on over and check out what you've written on that thread. |

Thanks Carol, We each get the quilt! That's the beauty of this project. We make and trade a block with each sister who signs on, like the cookie swap. Then we each assemble our own quilt and finish it any way we like. There are also several ways to assemble the blocks to make each layout different, I will send this information once we all start getting enough blocks to play with.
Since I am one of those likes to be prepared, I have been busy assembling blocks to share whenever I have a little time. This way as soon as someone signs on I have a block ready to send to her. (I used to procrastinate, somewhere in time I changed)
I will be watching for you email, along with Mz Daizy's.

Kathleen, I like the idea of having a list of chapter members. I was also thinking that it would be nice to have a list with everyone's name, address and a few little things about them (likes, interests, etc--maybe off of the bio page-hint hint ladies who haven't posted there yet) that way, when the mood strikes we could send a card or some small token throughout the year if we wanted to. There is a post on the main forums about chapter binders that I really like, I am using that as a guideline for how I set up my own binder (will do this weekend)I've got an awesome printer so I can actually print stuff in color now, lol and am looking forward to creating something cool.
For keeping up with members/addresses (for those who want to share) will one person be in charge and the main contact to keep track of that?
I bought some photo frames from dollar tree last weekend to use for my Henrietta, but my hobby lobby is still under construction--since we've moved it has served as the "catchall" room in the house and I am really jonesing to get back to engraving. Most of my glass is still at our house in Pembroke and I am chomping at the bits to get back down there to get it (April 10--not too much longer!!) Every time we go anywhere, my husband is always looking at old cars and Jeeps and I am eyeballing old windows, glass doors, etc. |

Rachel, that is a great idea. Why don't you keep the member list? It's easy, I have a list going for members of the Friendship Quilt which I keep in a notepad document. As I get new names and addresses I just copy and past from the email onto the list. Perhaps Mz Daizy can let you know how many sisters are in our house and their names to get you started. |

I doubt it, since I don't sew and don't know the first thing about quilting. Thanks for the invite though. |

Hay ya'll,
I'm glad to see that ya'll final got added. Brian has been really swamped lately but he seems to have it all going now. I would like for everyone to put a short bio on the link above but DO NOT include your mailing address. Any farmgirl can read what is written here but she can't post here unless she is a Poor House Farmgirl Chapter member. I think that would be a bit too much information out there, don't you? I would prefer to send a private email to the member/members and make your own mailing lists if you want one. I don't mind giving out my address to my chapter sisters but not to every sister that signs on and reads thru our posts. Does that make sense?
About your quilt, Mz Rachel....I don't think I should commit to another project at this time. I have four quilts in the works right now and then several Christmas gifts that I have to complete before Thanksgiving. That's my own deadline/goal. It is a wonderful idea and I know it will turn out great but I just have to say no. I am sooooo sorry.
I have been working on my binder but it isn't at a point to post any photos. I also have an address section and will be sending everyone a note to request your mailing address. I have the Certificate of Memberships and a few gift giving cards to mail each member. And a news letter that I will copy and send to each of you. The news letter shows some past things that were done that are really cute and neat ideas. I will try to add up all the members and list them here for you to contact and get addresses if you want.
I would love to see the engraving, Mz Rachel. I can't imagine how lovely that is. Please post a few photos when you can.
I also remember the crayon and iron method and the fabric paints in a tube. The fabrics pens are a wonderful invention. I have seen a friend paint her Tom tennis shoes and they turned out fabulous!
Ok, I have to go and work on my binder than cattle records then off to bed. I have fences to build tomorrow. Sleep good, Sistahs!!
Hugs and prayers, Daizy

Hi Henhouse Sisters Great to be able to sign in and get started. Sounds like everyone is busy with projects of some sort. I found my Henrietta, but have not decided how to decorate her, would love to see some photos of any that are done! My binder is almost finished and will post photos when I can. Going to head over to the bios and get aquainted. Love the idea of a block exchange, but do not have the time at the moment to meet the obligation to sew that many squares. One thing I have done in the past, was a round robin fabric exchange. You send off a packet of fabric squares to each participant and they all send you one. This way you can participate, but you can make the squares at your own pace. Have a wonderful evening.

Rachel, is there a way for you to e-mail us an official list of members? I saw the suggestion that you be the "keeper of the list." I think it would be fun to see all the names in one place and possibly have addresses and birthdays.
Since we can't meet face-to-face, are we going to have regularly scheduled "meetings"? How many members do we have anyway?
Just thinking out loud. Sometimes good ideas get hatched that way. |
Blessings,

I like Carol's suggestion of a list of names and contact info. Meetings could be fun also, just not sure how that would work?

testing 1.2.3.....
hello sisters! yay! I can post!
I love this : "I am recovering perfectionist and procrastinating is part of that package for me." oh my goodness! there are so many of us!!!!
ok- I have moved 6 times since I got my Henrietta--she is packed away safely!!!!! haha! I have yet to do anything with/to her as I simply couldn't decide--
as for badges- wow- I have printed out all of the "stuff" when bored or whatever but have yet to actually complete anything....ouch! (and I was a Girl Scout Leader for 12 years!!!!)
I love the idea of having a list for ourselves with mailing address and email -and even maybe some of our fave things -like I read and I do sew, love chocolate and hankies.....you get the idea!
i'm also a member of the Farmgirls of the Southwest Henhouse- also a virtual one so i'm not exactly sure how I want to do my binder-i'm thinking mine may encompass BOTH henhouses -in separate sections for mailing etc---so that I can have my badgework and my membership certificates all in one place-SOMEDAY!!!!!!
oh! and I am going to join the quilt project-I think it would be fun and what a wonderful memory as well as satisfying badge requirements !
well-i'm at work so I shouldn't be on here but wanted to get signed in so I knew if it worked! |

Please read my last post regarding addresses being available for the publics eye.
I will be posting a list of all our chapter members once we get everyone hooked up.

Good evening. I have a binder for my badges set up already. But I think that when I make the binder for the hen house, I will adjust it just a little. I found a web site for creating a really cool looking binder and I think that I shall incorporate that as a guide to setting up my binder. I am somewhat of a detail organizer and every farm girl that I have ever done a swap or barter with I already have addresses in a card file. I like the idea of having it in the binder, so much easier to look up things when you want to do something for someone. As for my Henrietta, I have her safely in my badge binder, but I do not know how to embroider. It is on my to do list of learning. I already have 15 badges done and I am trying to figure a way of display them when I transfer them to fabric and then learn to embroider. I like the idea of sharing our likes, talents with each other. I sew and crochet mostly. I do know how to knit, but find it slow. I have so many patterns in so many different venues that sometimes it is hard to decide what to work on. My current project is making a table top water fountain using a Florida theme. Hey Ms Daizy, are we going to have projects to work on, swaps, things like that? Well I need to get ready for bed as I have an early day tomorrow with school. Becky |
May the stars carry your sadness away. May the flowers fill your heart with beauty, and may hope forever wipe away your tears. |

These are the sections I put in my binder. Orange is my favorite color (can you tell?) and I thought that the more pale orange looks pretty good with the MJF images. I've also got my MJF Sisterhood certificates in the front of the binder in sheet protectors, and extra dividers in case I decide to add more sections as time goes by.
