Gosh, can it be August already? Time flies when you're having fun! Seems the summer is just flying by! We had lots of rain how about you?

Vacuumed my pool on Sunday. Gosh, all I've done this summer so far is vacuum the darn thing. Haven't taken a dip in it yet. I was going to on Sunday but .... yea you got it .... it needed a good vacuum. Never got around to it! lol

Darlene, those California fires are worrisome! How are you? Are the fires affecting you in a personal way? I mean, they all affect us, we are all interconnected. I feel for everyone.

Shannon, you must be ready to burst! lol Hope the heat isn't getting to you to much! I am sure you are looking forward to greeting the little one!

Bonnie, how did your DH Koi fish make out? I think it's funny that you mention they are move work than cows! lol

Has anyone heard from Alicia? She's so quiet these days.

Well, no birthday celebrations in August! I'm sure we can come up for an excuse to have cake and ice cream! Yummy!

Enjoy the day everyone!

Morning everyone :) I so wanted to visit with everyone on the porch today :) We are having a dreary rainy day... it makes you think/believe it is cooler finally, but alas, the humidity is as high as ever :/ I actually feel a little better today, and have a little energy! I have the kiddos working on their school. Nothing too strenuous, but some, nonetheless. I'm hoping to get the opportunity to craft later today. I joined the Fall into Fun Swap on the main forum and want to start crafting for that one, so that when Winnie posts her apple swap, I can get to work on it! Linda posted a really neat Table Runner Swap that I would love to be a part of, but alas, I need to make sure I would have time, as all the dates are right around Emi's expected delivery! There you go Carole - for our cake and ice cream celebration, perhaps it will be for Emi's delivery :) If nothing else, I will bring some to the porch at the end of the month for my oldest daughter's 12th birthday - oh is she really going to be that old!?!?!? I've tried to get ahold of Alicia, and no luck as of yet :( I'm praying all is alright, especially knowing they were dealing with mono! I'll send her another e-mail here in a few...

Happy August everyone! It is indeed hard to believe that summer is drawing to a close and public schools/University of Florida start here on August 24. While it will continue to feel like summer with heat and humidity, the energy of the town changes with the new school year. I love the beginning of the new school year. Always loved going back to school, seeing friends, meeting new teachers, and tackling new learning. It feels like a fresh start and there is a kind of excitement in new beginnings, I believe.

Last night they were showing footage on the California fires and I was thinking about Darlene as well. Darlene, I hope you are currently safe! It is a very scary thing to see your state go up in flames! We had a similar problem here in Florida in April/May 2007 when we suffered a bad drought and with the heat, the place just went up in flames.

Shannon, glad you are feeling better! It must feel so good to have that big move behind you. Nothing worse than trying to move in the oppressive heat and humidity we all have right now in the Southeast!

Hope everyone else is doing fine!

So glad we are into August. Looking forward to some cooler temperatures. Our garden did not do very well this year. We did have some rain last night. Not sure if that will help the temperatures, it gets muggy, but it may help the garden. I have been getting about a quart of blackberries almost everyday and there are still more to ripen. We don't have any blueberry bushes yet but JT stopped and got a couple boxes at the local farm market. They are tucked safely into the freezer. Dad enjoys making blueberry pancakes. I enjoy eating them straight from the freezer as a snack. Helps to cool off and the grandchildren love them frozen too.

I am amazed at the amount of things accumulated over the years. Took a carload of stuff to donate yesterday. Going through magazines and games, and still lots of odds and ends to purge. May work on the bathroom today. Lots in the drawers and medicine cabinet that need tossed. Still avoiding the basement. I may have to enlist some help down there.

Hope everyone is enjoying their day!

Denise - I too have been trying to purge some things. I got rid if a lot before moving, and am still working on getting rid of more now. My hardest thing to get rid of though is craft stuff... And I have a TON! Not sure how to let it go or decide of what to let go! Suggestions on how to do that one?

Winnie - it is indeed nice to have the move behind us... Now to just sell the old house! It has been on the market for a week, and we have had two showings, both with good feedback, so hopefully soon :)

Today, depending on if hubby can get off early, we may go peach picking. We usually go during late July to mid- August, and when I looked it up, I found out this is the last full week of peach picking. Apparently the crazy heat affected their ripening schedule. Wonder if it will do the same to apples! We usually pick Mutsu apples, which looks like will be ready mid-September. Getting excited!

Shannon, I hope your house sells soon and it is encouraging that it has shown well twice already! Keep us posted. I hope you are able to get some delicious peaches this coming weekend too. The peaches we have been getting down here this year have been hit or miss. Some are juicy but most have been sort of mushy. Many have been sour as well and they seem to develop bad spots very quickly. Not sure what the problem is this year, but some areas have been too wet and others too hot and dry. Mutsu apples are delicious. One year, I got some from Merciers and brought them home to enjoy.

Denise, good luck with your goal to declutter. It can be very overwhelming sometimes when you have lived in a home for many years. I am cheering you on for fortitude to reclaim your house from the years of STUFF that nobody wants or needs any longer! Shannon, I think it is very hard when children are small to know what will not be needed by the next child. So, we tend to hang on to things for that just in case event.

Our garage is not a garage for a car, but rather storage, lol. We have tubs of clothing out there... Girls size newborn through 12 and boys newborn through 7/8. Well, technically not all those sizes are out there... girls newborn, 2T, and 6 are in here, as are boys' 4T. I usually try to get rid of everything stained or with holes before I put them out there, as well as any that I don't really care for. But it still accumulates so quickly!

But how do you get rid of craft stuff? Does anyone have any suggestions??? I have a TON of fabric from where I use to make children's clothing and sell it. I know I want to sell most of my Disney fabric, but the rest I will probably hold on to, in hopes of having time to make some clothing for my own kiddos. But then there is all the rest of the "stuff" and so much of it!!!

Shannon,
I went through my craft things and just tried to whether I really thought I would use it or if I even went near it in the last year. I have two girls with children so I gave them a lot of the fabric. I only kept what I absolutely could not part with or had a project in mind for. When I finish I am going through and tag everything for a project and if I don't come up with an idea for it I am going to let it go. I went through so much stuff with Winnie cheering me on and was able to organize it. Now I have that done it is easier to go through and downsize. I just donated many many patterns that I no longer use. Gave some to my girls too. Next are my cross stitch and craft books. I hate cutting them up but I am going to copy all the projects I can reasonably expect to do and get rid of the books. I can't stand the close feeling of having so much stuff around anymore.

We are having our garage rebuilt. It has been barely standing for the last 15 yrs and we are going to add a stairway and loft for storage. We may set it up as part craft area. Just need to put in a window ac in the summer. We are still figuring it out and getting estimates. It will be nice when I am finished to have all the rooms being used for their actual intent. LOL! I know no one else has that problem.

Hi everyone, it's so nice to have a moment to stop by the porch and chat. It seems like this summer has been a bit of a disappointment to a lot of folks weather-wise, and I sure feel that way. I struggled to get a couple of veggie plants in pots when I first injured my back because I wanted to work on one of the beginner garden badges. They've done okay, and I have learned from it, but there just was too much rain and not enough sun! That being said, we are finally having some nice weather this week. Yesterday I showed Lily how to look for "pictures" in the clouds. Took my back to being a child. Speaking of weather, Darlene, I'm also thinking of you a lot with those terrible fires. Let us know how you are when you can!

Bonnie, I'd also like to hear how your fish fared. I had a good friend who kept lots of fish, and he worked like mad taking care of them. He gave them all names, and they lived like kings!

Shannon, I'm in a bit of the same dilemma with craft stuff, among other things. If my daughter and I can pull off relocating to Martha's Vineyard, it will mean going from two houses to one. So I'm starting to clear out stuff--again. I just went through this when mom moved in with me, but there's always more stuff! What I've decided to do is spend some serious thinking time about which crafts I truly love to do versus which ones I've either lost interest in, or find less enjoyable. Once I've sorted that out, the stuff I have around for the "loser" crafts gets donated. My biggest dilemma is about 15 big tubs of old clothes that I kept to use the fabric - maybe - someday. I could use some help figuring out how to sort through that stuff! It's all a huge challenge: space and time versus trying to always save money!

Miss Winnie, I'm being very conservative about signing up for swaps so I can be ready to run with your apple activities. I'm super excited about them, whatever they are! :) I did sign up for the September dish cloth swap -- the theme is apples!

I've rambled on too long -- sorry! One last thing, though, I'm also worried about Alicia. Hope she's okay, and we hear from her soon.

Happy Day!

Oh my, continuing to keep Alicia and her family in prayer.

Working my way through these craft books, so far so good. Getting rid of lots.

I am sorry to hear about Alicia's children. My youngest had mono in high school and it takes awhile before they start feeling any better. Will keep them all in my prayers.

Amy, I think a move to Martha's Vineyard would be worth parting with a lot of stuff!! You can always collect more if you want after you relocate. Plus it is good to ask oneself about the craft supplies for that "maybe one day project". About 20 years ago, I inherited a lot of great fabric and sewing stuff from a co-worker whose Mom had an entire sewing room. I used a few items but it never turned out to be anything that was what I really wanted to do a project. I was still having to go out and get the right kind of supplies. When both of our families passed on, we suddenly found ourselves with boxes of things from their homes. There simply was not enough room to store it all. It was then that I donated it all away. Honestly, I have never missed any of it! If I want to do something now, I go and get what I need and do the project. I no longer purchase things that were on sale or really cheap for "that future project". In my own experience, that future project never materializes but the stuff continues to take up space!

Before we moved to this house, I got rid of A LOT of my craft books... literally about half! I could probaby get rid of more, but am still dreaming that one day I will have time ;)

Went peach picking this afternoon. I ITCH!!!! Ughhhh! Anyways - we have 4 bushels of peaches for me to put up o.O I always enjoy it, but when I think of the work ahead, I must admit I am cringing! Right now I am planning to make peach salsa, canned peaches, dehydrated peaches, MAYBE some frozen peaches, and of course a batch of peach ice cream. Anyone have any other suggestions? Looks like we still have enough peach butter, peach honey, and peach barbeque sauce from last year...

Carole

Here is what the sky looked like last week when the fire in our county was burning, it was so eerie, I was working and noticed the floor was turning more red than usual and the sun was reddening the clouds, it was beautiful at that time but as the evening went on it got browner and browner and the sun was red as in the photo and hung in the sky like nothing was holding it there. It was beautiful to see but so weird.

Oh Denise that sounds so ambitious I need to do that to just have to get the energy up for it. I am starting to think more that way and that is a good thing.

Shannon You might take your crafts or fabric you don't want and put it on the barter section of the forum and see who will barter for it, It usually goes pretty well there and ask for them to pay shipping for a large flat rate box which usually costs about 17.99 at the Post office. or barter for something you could use like soaps or something I have done that with other people there and I would for you as well, if you would like to.

OH your peach everything sounds so wonderful but I think the best thing for me would be the fresh peach ice cream that is so yummy.
Peach BBQ sauce sounds good.

I am glad it is August because July this year was an awful month for me! I had to furbabies pass a way the 2nd one was on Sunday which was close enough to be in July and the car wreck and on a trip at very end of June where a teacher was almost lost. But I am done with that and now onto a great August.

That must be so tiring for Alicia with 3 children home with Mono. Oh poor lady.

Darlene, I am praying you all will get rain soon. That is a slightly scary looking photo.

I went through my books and patterns and got rid of about 3/4 of them. So much better. I am starting to think like Winnie though and getting rid of it and only buying to do one project at a time. Oh how much space that would free up. I am going to continue on and see what I end up with. Even though I got rid of lots of fabric I still have quite a bit. If I can't or don't tag for a project that I can get done then I am going to "let it go". Lol. I had to write it that way only because my son and I were just singing that this evening. He is a fantastic piano player. Some days I can't believe how much fun we have together. He is not a kid anymore, he's 27. I love that we still do fun things!
I have to laugh at my dad, as he can't believe how much stuff keeps coming down the stairs to be donated. He thinks I am growing it I guess.

Darlene, the photo is erie! Wish you guys had rain. I read in the news that they had a barrier to stop the fire, but it went right past the barrier. Keeping you in my thoughts.

Looks like everyone is busy harvesting. Our vegetable garden is doing well except with the zucchini. Looks like I will NOT be sending zucks with my recipe! lol

Denise I hope you are able to get that creative space to happen. It is so much more pleasant when you have a room of one's own!

Shannon, thank you for the update on Alicia. Mono is not kool and I speak from experience. Mine developed into a rare immune system disorder, took forever for it to heal! So thankful for my health.

Keep well everyone! Farmgirl hug,

Thank you for your kind thoughts I guess they are trying to get donations of drinking water for the fireman, fighting those fires. I will have to look into that.
I am glad you are getting things done with your stuff Shannon.

Have a good night everyone.

Denise, remember the Snow White song "Whistle while you work"? That was how she got the Dwarfs to get with it on the cleaning program. Sounds like your son has the right idea, provide music so you can sing while you work!!

I am praying for you all: stopping the fires, selling the house, comfort for loss, good harvest and better health. I am almost embarrassed to say how wonderful our weather and crops are here. We have had needed rain and a fantastic growing season. The corn here in many places is 10 ft. Tall and the soybeans up to above the waist. Unbelievable. Our fish did well in the show. My hubby got a trophy for best in variety so he was very happy. We've been shop-hopping quilt shops here. Lots of neat ones. They have printed fabric license plates I have been collecting. My favorite is serial quilter.

Bonnie, it's wonderful to hear that someone, somewhere is enjoying good weather and good harvest! Congratulations on your prize-winning fish- bet your hubby is beaming like a proud papa:) I've seen some of those license plates, they are so fun!

Denise, isn't it fun to hang out with our grown up kids! My daughter and I stayed up all night one night on vacation just talking and laughing (and snacking). It was great! I'd love to hear your son play -- Lily sings "Let It Go" all the time. The new craft room sound heavenly.

Darlene, you have had a rough summer, and now these fires! I'm praying that the get them under control, and that you can have a peaceful August so you can enjoy your new car!

Winnie, I like your philosophy about just getting what you need for projects as you go along. I'm convinced! I'm going to start by donating all those old clothes, but I have to keep any good buttons off them. Buttons are a real weakness of mine! Anyone else have a button fixation?

Shannon, peach ice cream is my favorite, yummy! Can you make fruit syrup with peaches? That would be fun. Hope the house sells soon, things sound promising :) Thanks for letting us know about Alicia. Poor thing, she must be exhausted, bless her heart!

Looking forward to meeting my BFF and music partner's new granddaughter today! She's three months old, and looks darling in the pictures. Her name is Saorise, which means "freedom" in Celtic. It's pronounced Seersha, isn't that lovely? They're the ones that live up near you, Carole. Our two families are so close, it's going to be fun to all be together! Have a great day, everyone!

Happy Day!

Good Morning Farmgirls! Love getting caught up on all that is going one.

Bonnie, after the long cold Winter you all had last year, you deserve the perfect Summer!! It sounds like you and DH are having a great time with your favorite passions too!

I was just looking at my last post here and saw another wrong word! Do any of you have computers that make up their own words and they aren't what you wanted to say? It is easy for me to assume that nothing is messed up until after I see it late already posted. Grrrrr!!!

We are in for another weekend of heavy rain showers as a cold front stalls out along our border again and stirs up the Gulf. Now if we could only get that water out to Darlene, I would be happy to have it keep raining away!!

Darlene - I pray your August is much better than your July was!!!! Quite honestly, I was thinking the same thing when the first rolled around :) Your picture is both beautiful and eerie! Praying you stay safe!

Denise - sounds like you are doing fantastic getting rid of things! I will get there... one day ;)

Bonnie - sounds like your garden is going phenomenal! Truth is, we all need crops to do well somewhere! Glad to know some of our sisters are benefiting :) Also wonderful to hear the fish did so well. I've never heard of a fish showing :)

Amy - hoping you enjoy your visit today :)

Winnie - I couldn't help but laugh at you talking about the computer changing your words. I noticed on Linda's post about the table runner swap (main forum) that she said I was going to be easy this month... I'm guessing she meant busy ;) Whenever I type penpal, for the homeschool group I coordinate it for, I have to make sure it doesn't change it.... In the subject line I often write "Info for Penpal Swap." If I am not careful and watchful, the computer changes it to.... well..... let's just say it drops the second "p" and I will let you figure it out from there. SO EMBARRASSING!!!!

So still working on peaches. I wasn't doing so well yesterday - I was having some pretty hard contractions and my right hip was out. Not good for processing peaches! All we got done was 14 quarts of peach pie filling and a dehydrator full of peach slices. So today we are working on more. I'll be canning peach halves and peach slices in syrup, honey spiced peaches, and peach salsa, along with hopefully some more dehydrated peaches. We still have quite a bit to process and they are going so fast this year! So with that, I am off of here... break is over and back to work for me :)

Thank you Shannon, I think August will be better.

Don't wear your self out Denise.

Glad youor Fish showing went well Bonnie.

It is so annoying when the computer changes words to fit what it thinks the word should be or moves to another line and continues and I am continuing a different conversation somewhere other than I was.

Take care of yourself Shannon don't over do.

Amy have a good day.

Everyone have a good day.

Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.
Tell God what you need, and thank him for what he has done.
Philippians 4:6

Just follow God unquestioningly.
Because you love Him so, for if you trust His judgment there is nothing you need to know.

Hi everyone. Last night one of my dear little kitty cats passed away. I knew it was coming, she was very sick. I am so sad, but also glad she is no longer suffering. They take a piece of our hearts with them, though, don't they?

Amy, I am so very sorry about your little kitty. We have two and I know how sad you must be.
