I just received a copy of The Egg and I. People on the MJF forum say it is a super book. I can't wait to start reading it. I might just have to get the movie.

That is a great movie!
I ordered a copy of the book too Linda. It is probably at home waiting for me by now.
Can't wait to see how close the movie was to the book.

I have been enjoying a book called "We Two" by Gill Gillian. It is the background and subsequent marriage of Queen Victoria to Prince Albert. Very good. I love to read English history.

What is everyone else reading these days?

I'm reading one of Lidia Bastianich's earlier cookbooks. Has pictures of her years in Italy before coming here with her family. I want to try several of her recipes. I got it for under $7 free S/H from Amazon. It's new - publisher's overstock. The price on the cover is $30.

I have a new "used" cookbook off Amazon. Texas Slow Cooker by Cheryl Alters Jamison. Recipes range from spicy pecans to several different kinds of chilies. Desserts to entrees. Trying to decide which recipe I want to try first.

No pictures but the type is easy to read and I like the lay-out of the book. It's easy to pickup and open to any page to find an interesting recipe.

It was a library copy with no wear and with shipping the total was $6. I have bought several library copies off Amazon and all have been in very good condition.

Presently reading From No-Knead to Sourdough - a simpler approach to hand made bread by Victoria Redhed Miller. Quite informative. I just wish it had lots of colour pictures. I do like the way Mary Jane laid out her bread book and cast iron book and ...

I am reading something different than Tom Swift at the moment .i got 5 books at a rummage sale, the author is Nancy Mehl, mystery, the book is The Maiden of the Mist. They are put out by Guidepost.written to keep my interest. very good. About a lady, Pricilla who lived all her .life in Kansas, her husband died and then an aunt passed away and left her a farm in Martha.s Vinyard, and the mysteries began. Get to know a little about the area, she also has a historical lighthouse on her property. Like I said pretty good.

Denise are they making quilts in your books? I have read some books and they had a group that worked on them together,
I think the author last name started with a C.

Cheryl are you going to make some good tasty homemade bread? Pumpkin will love that.

Sara your cookbooks sound good. The Spicy pecan sounds like a good snack.

Well you all have a wonderful day.

Hugs and blessings

Love you all

Darlene,

The quilt book is written about an Amish couple and the people who come to their quilting classes, Amish and "English" (as they refer to the non amish).

I ordered the Fall Gooseberry Patch cookbook Winnie talked about. It's another Amazon used book and I got a good deal on it. Hopefully it will be here tomorrow and like Winnie I will be reading, dreaming, and planning for fall.

I am presently reading Eating from the Ground up by Alana Chernila. I own and love all of her books and this new one does not disappoint. I love how she talks about the vegetable and the different ways you can eat it.

I have also read From No-Knead to Sour Dough - A simpler approach to handmade bread by Victoria Redhed Miller. The book is loaded with valuable information however my pet peeve, black and white with very little colour photos ... and the few that are there are not colour corrected. It almost looks like they were shot under florescent lighting without colour filter corrections.

I truly love how Jane Butter puts/lays out her books especially her recent cast iron and Bread book. Lots of colour photographs, tips ... the lay out is appealing to the eye. I just want to dive in and look at everything. Oh well, Victoria is still a great author (I've seen her at the Motherearth News Fair in Burlington VT and she is a wonderful person). Perhaps she doesn't have the same budget. Not sure how it all works.

Catch you all later.

I have a new cookbook 'Scone Recipes: Amazing Scone Baking Race' by Jennifer C. Petersen and Friends.

Last week my sister Bobbie and I went to the Paris Coffee Shop for hot tea and scones. Afterwards I looked through my cookbooks but didn't find scone recipes so I order this book off Amazon. Looking forward to making scones for my morning and afternoon tea.

First recipe I want to try is Rich Cream Scones and I got the ingredients today while grocery shopping with my sister Betty who just happens to be Bobbie's twin. I also got a couple of oranges to make orange cranberry scones.

I have a new cookbook that I keep close to my rocker because I love leafing through it. It's my go-to book when I want to visit another FarmGirl at heart's kitchen and listen as she tells me about her love of good food, her husband, children and dogs.

A Kitchen in France - A Year of Cooking in My Farmhouse
by Mimi Thorisson
Photographed by her husband Oddur Thorisson

I have several of Mimi's recipes in mine but am holding off making them until I lose some weight and can spurge. After all it's rustic French cooking with all the butter and cream the French love.

The first recipe I want to try is butternut gratin which has 1/2 cup of heavy cream plus 3 Tbsp butter, 3/4 cups breadcrumbs, and 3/4 cup Comte cheese. May have to find a substitute for the cheese.
