Today our cow Fiona started her steam up ration. Which means that we bring her into the milking parlor to start eating grain again. The significance of this is that it means there are only 2 weeks left until our first calf is due!!!!!! She was not as excited as I was to end her vacation LOL! (When they're dry they don't have to get up in the morning and be penned up for milking. They get to sleep in and be lazy. Fiona and her mother Foxy take full advantage of this!!)

Yesterday at about 10pm our first calf of the year arrived. I thought for sure it was a heifer. Fiona (and her mom) usually have heifer calves. And she was 2 days early, bull calves are usually about a week late. However, I was mistaken. Fiona had an adorable baby bull.

Both are doing great! He will be my nieces fair steer so he's going to have an exciting life :)

Not sure on her name yet, Debbie. I want to name her Dakota, Nathan wanted to think on it. I'll let you know when we decide :) The next one is due April 1. So far the others were born early so we'll see!

I'm seeing tons of calves ANDbaby goats around here! In fact the goats make me late for my appointments!! Everytime I pull over to say hi, they all gotta run up to the fence and chat back and the babies go about kicking, jumping and spanking making me sit longer than I should and giggling like crazy! People around must think I'm silly but they make my day!!
