Just out of curiosity - do you do stockings first (before opening gifts) or last (after all the gifts are open)?
Growing up we were allowed to open our stockings when we got up but we couldn't open any presents until everyone was up. Luckily my husband's family (where we spend Christmas day) also does stockings first. My sister's husband grew up doing stockings last and even though they've been married almost 10 years it still bugs her to not do them first LOL! |

We open family presents on Christmas Eve and then open stockings on Christmas morning. We make Swedish pancakes for breakfast on Christmas Day so it's a fun, relaxing morning. This year we'll have Caroline to enjoy stockings with - but as my son and daughter have grown up, we've continued doing stockings, drawing names so we each fill one up for each other. |

We never had stockings as I was growing up, we had shoe boxes, lol. My Daddy loved filling them with oranges, tangerines, apples, and a variety of nuts in their shells. He would also add peppermint sticks and cream drops. There were four of us kids, so it was a special treat to have this box of goodies all to ourselves that we didn’t have to share! I started the tradition of stockings when my son was born, and we would always open those gifts first. |

I love hearing all your stocking/box stories and how you celebrated. When our son was born we too started with stockings. We have always opened Family gifts Christmas Eve then stockings and Santa Gifts on Christmas Morning. At 12 midnight we read the Kents little Golden Book of the Nativity. I do not have childhood memories so I treasure the traditions hubby and I started when Kent was born. This is still how we do it and yes there is a Santa gift for each of us on Christmas morning as in our hearts we still believe in Santa.

Our stockings are mostly just for decoration now that our kids are grown. I love the shoebox idea!!! It would hold a lot more and heavier things like oranges than a regular stocking. Plus, easy to hide from brothers and sisters haha!

We always had a stocking and it was the first thing we opened. Each would have oranges, nuts, candies and one small gift. When we got married and went home for Christmas I remember mom always hung men's socks up for the couples so that each guy ended up with a new pair of socks! LOL One year she had 6 of those pairs hanging which included, 3 of us who were married and mom and dad plus 2 of our neighbors. My mom always went all out for Christmas. I remember one year when I was a teen she and two of our women neighbors (we 3 families were very close) spent all one Christmas eve going from house to house putting up trees, decor and setting out gifts. She never slept at all that night. She never wanted us to see anything before Christmas morning. We always had unwrapped gifts from Santa and wrapped was from family. |

I love hearing all your stories! It's so fun to hear how each family does things differently. Every Christmas eve we go to my in-laws (across the yard) and we get a new pair of pajamas from my mother in law. It's a tradition she grew up with. Those are the only gifts under the tree. Christmas morning when we arrive Santa has visited and all the gifts are from him LOL! He doesn't use name tags anymore though. We each have our own wrapping paper :)

Stockings first before presents. :) Santa presents aren’t wrapped…he and the elves are WAY too busy to wrap gifts! :) No presents under the tree except new Jammie’s. Then all the presents under the tree on Christmas morning. :) |

Now that you all are talking about pajamas, that brought back a memory. I think it only happened one year though. We would always beg Mama to let us open just one gift on Christmas Eve. This particular year she finally gave in, but she would pick out which one. Of course it was new fun flannel pj’s! Thank you all for bringing back that memory. |

That's what we did with our kids. They got to unwrap one present from us. Always new jammies. |

We always open the stockings first. Since the stockings tend to have the smaller things like toothbrushes, toothpaste, and candy.

We open family gifts Christmas Eve. Stockings are for Christmas morning along with Santa gifts. Even at 62 I am still excited to see what is in my stocking. I have knitted stockings up for each member of my family each personalized and on the rare occasion we can all manage to all get together for Christmas I make sure there are treats in each one. I search out little treasures all year for everyone’s stockings and if we don’t all get together include it in their gifts. |
