I didn't know the flower never wilts either!
HA! I'm no word queen - I feel far from it with my simple vocabulary, but I'll be better from all the words we're going to learn. I signed up for a couple of online dictionary word of the day e-mails and also saved some I found from pinterest for days when I already know the words they choose. |

Here's a prime example - I didn't know there was a word for this. I would have just said a wreath of flowers on her head.
anadem [ an-uh-dem ] noun
a wreath or garland of flowers worn on the head
"An anadem is a delicate wreath or garland of flowers worn on the head — think of it as nature's tiara. This poetic term has Greek roots and was first recorded in the late 1500s. It's a fitting word for spring!" |

xanthic [ zan-thik ] adjective
of or relating to a yellow or yellowish color
"Xanthic is a vivid adjective used to describe something yellow or yellowish. Its roots lie in a Greek word meaning "yellow" — think sunflowers, mustard, or goldfinches. It's a zesty splash of color for your vocab!" |

They say you must use a word 10-15 times to become familiar and part of your vocabulary. Some of these I would like to try that. |

Me too! I'm going to start a little notebook with fun words to remember.

And here I've just been saying "my belly is talking." This sounds way more sophisticated LOL! |

We have rain today, finally. After weeks of drought. Indeed, there is peace and I love the way it sounds, smells, moves the trees and dances on our pond! |

Ecumenical - representing a number of different Christian Churches.
"Once inside that mournful ecumenical cave, I sat alone on one of the benches trying to hyperventilate myself into some tears the way a toddler was doing in line at the store last night, begging for marshmallows." - Ross Gay, Book of Delights. In this case, Gay is referring with irony to his underwhelming experience in the Rothko Chapel in Houston. Side note: Rothko spent his formative years in a chedar (Jewish primary school) but abandoned the religion after his father's death and rejected the label of "Jewish artist."

librate [ lahy-breyt ] verb
to remain poised or balanced
"To librate is to to remain poised or balanced. Rooted in Latin, this word describes moments of just-right equilibrium. Great for tightrope walkers, decision-makers, and anyone juggling life with style and grace."
I am going to try and librate more! Style and grace tend to escape me when juggling life sometimes LOL! |

Since I missed yesterday because I was watching Christmas movies and baking cookies to celebrate our anniversary I'll post one more to keep on track:
insouciance noun | in-SOO-see-unss "What It Means Insouciance is a formal word that refers to a feeling of carefree unconcern. It can also be understood as a word for the relaxed and calm state of a person who is not worried about anything."
I think I can use a little more insouciance in my life!

noun: chuppah, chuppa; plural noun: chuppot. Origin: Hebrew
A chuppah is a canopy or a covering held up by four poles.
"Walking through the chuppah and ready to join the party." Kitchen Table Tarot, Melissa Cynova. This was the random card my kid drew today as her "fortune." I suppose if you squint, the local library's set of doors is a bit like a 4-poled canopy?
.jpg?v 16447906)
Love insouciance-- I had a general sense for the meaning (I always picture Miss Piggy from Sesame Street), but it is helpful to know the actual meaning. Librate is going to take some practice, as I am tempted to put it as "liberate" and even my forum spell-checker is dubious!

I agree with the librate/liberate! Are you learning Tarot reading?
I love today's word! conglobate [ kon-gloh-beyt ] verb
to form into a ball
I conglobate snow and cookie dough all the time LOL! According to the e-mail " To conglobate means "to form into a ball" — think of snowballs, cookie dough, or clay. From Latin, this word captures the joy of things coming together." I must admit I feel much joy when I conglobate cookie dough and snow!!! |

Conglobating pizza dough and bath bombs spark joy as well! Or being hypnotized by a lava lamp...
Tarot is a desultory interest; part art study (this Listrani deck I bought just because it is beautiful), it can be a source of insight when journaling, may some day be a way to get good at extemporized story-telling... The ostensible ability to divine the future or talk with the dead with cards? Nah, not really in my wheelhouse.
"Desultory (adj) marked by lack of definite plan, regularity, or purpose.
The Latin adjective desultorius was used by the ancients to refer to a circus performer (called a desultor) whose trick was to leap from horse to horse without stopping. It makes sense, then, that someone or something desultory "jumps" from one thing to another" -https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/desultory

I woke up feeling like a Morgenmuffel but shifted to a more effulgent state when I found Heather's "librate" in the wild!
The Power of Geography: Ten Maps That Reveal the Future of Our World by Tim Marshall speculating on space travel: "There are five 'libration' points near the Earth. These are places where the gravitational effects of the Earth and Moon cancel each other out, allowing objects there to remain in position without having to use fuel."

Can't wait to see what Debbie has planned for us next!

Onomatopoeia: noun the formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named (e.g. cuckoo, sizzle ). "a relatively large number of bird names arise by onomatopoeia" the use of onomatopoeia for literary effect. "the language in her picture books is notable for its playfulness and onomatopoeia"
What a fun word, I really like this one.
