Yay for some warm weather!

Two delights I am grateful for already and it isn't even 8AM!

1. Merlin bird app helped me identify the call of the Swinehoe's white-eye. It also narrowed down the finch/sparrow candidates to House Finch so I can check that off my bird wishlist. I am amazed by birders who have good enough eyes and experience to be sure of the specific bird they see. My puzzle had 3 different types of woodpeckers and the only difference to me seemed to be slightly different positioning of their red caps. Don't even get me started on all the finches and sparrows, those sections of the puzzle went in last. How do "the pros" do it?!

2. Forgotten-then-remembered crafting kits and toys. These usually get stashed in totes under our bed when they have been abandoned on a counter in a distressing strew for long enough that my eye starts to twitch when I see them. Fallon received one of those elastic band woven stretchy bracelets from her best friend and has been occupied for hours whipping up some of her own creations with the kit she begged Santa for. Who needs toy shopping trips when you have a short memory and ample under-bed storage? At this rate, we can re-celebrate "Christmas" quarterly!

Chris - I have no idea how the pros do it! I only know the sound of the cardinal (mostly because they're so loud!).

I have a HUGE blessing to share today. Yesterday a massive tornado went through town and continued out a little over a mile from my sisters house in Michigan. It severely damaged her in laws place, but they were not there when it happened. Everyone is safe and sound for her family. Others were not as fortunate.

This is the path of the tornado:

Complete destruction. See the 2 brown I'm assuming roofs near the water? You can see them again in the upper right corner of the next one for reference.

This is her in laws house somehow still standing:

All the windows blew out, the garage door is folded up all weird, and there are a lot of cracks so they're guessing it will have to be torn down. But, a lot of things will be salvageable. Truly, a HUGE blessing for my family!

Oh my gosh Heather, I am so thankful your family is alright. It was bad across a few states.

Not nearly so profound as grace weathering the storm, but you know what I'm grateful for today? Spandex.

We visited an American Revolution reenactment yesterday and learned a bit about how flax was made into linen (also an amazing textile). What struck me the most was how hot and restrictive the outfits could be. I am so happy to live in a time when I can shimmy into stretchy yoga pants and breathe a little easier.

I agree. Could you imagine having to wear a corset everyday!?!

I'm grateful for my gumption today! I may not be able to get everything done, but I sure do try LOL!

Three cheers for gumption and gabbing! And Goodreads friend invites!

Took me more than 40 years to appreciate, but when I get really still, I am grateful I can feel my heart beating without all the "press an artery" business. Even when life is chaotic, that can be so reassuring.

Oh my goodness - how scary! So thankful that your family is okay. My daughter and son both live in an active tornado area and those storms are so scary. During Hurricane Harvey when our dad lost his house - it was a tornado that took it out. You could see the path on google maps. It lifted his garage roof right off - as it travelled (near as we can figure) it cut a palm tree in half and landed right side up in the canal behind his house.

Sending very thankful wishes to your family today!

Laura

I am grateful my garden has a sense of humor and... misses me?! Morning glory grew up through the back porch floorboards and is twining itself around my gardening apron!

Oh I love the morning glory coming up in an unexpected place. One of my favorite quilt stores in San Antonio is in an old house downtown. They have ivy growing up their walls inside and I think it's so charming.

Blessings for today - gentle rain in East Texas (no severe weather as predicted) and it looks like my little city at home in South Texas is getting a bit too (not a drought buster but any is so appreciated).

Happy Wednesday Wildflowers!

Stay warm, Heather!

I'm feeling blessed the sunflowers we scattered before the rain are starting to bloom along our sidewalk fence line.

I feel blessed to have stumbled upon a hard boiled egg method that is so simple and easy to peel. (5 mins in Instant pot, 5 mins "releasing" in IP, and 5 mins in a cool water bath, peel right away). Our weather is beautiful, but kiddo is under it, so it is shaping up to be my favorite-- a putter around the house day.

Hope Fallon feels better soon!

I'm feeling blessed for a wind free day today. Yesterday was insane with 50+mph winds almost all day. Dust was blowing, lots of houses are missing siding and shingles. Trees fell over, etc. and it's going to start back up tonight :(

Hang in there! Wind is such exhausting weather!

Today's home blessing is clear-ish countertops! We curated a lot of half-done projects into storage yesterday.

A blessing from afield is I was watching a video comparing camping equipment from 100/50/0 years ago and it is astonishing how much more comfortable outstepping has gotten. Similarly, Jens bought climbing books specific to Joshua tree (our next trip) from 50/40/30 years ago and it is impressive how much more accessible climbing has gotten. If I had to hammer my own pitons into a rock and trust they would hold my weight, there is no way I would even try it!

I agree about the wind… it’s exhausting just listening to it howl all day. Better weather is supposed to be here this week. 50 mph winds do not sound like a good time!
