Are there any other Hoosier gals on here? My name is Lora and I live in Alexandria on 18 acres. We have chickens, horses, ducks, cats and dogs.

I have been married for 15 years and we have 1 son Lliam, who is a high functioning autistic.

I like the simple life (though I have to work full time for insurance). I would very much like to run my own business, but since I can't decide what to do, I inspect trucks all day for the Indiana State Police.

Thanks for having me,
Lora

Well, well, well, I found a few minutes to type. It's been raining here like crazy last couple of days. Yesterday we received almost 2 inches and today it's been snowing and raining. I thought spring was supposed be here not late autumn!!

I had to move the calf last night. His pen was flooded. It was funny. Pouring down rain and I am trying to get the little (320lbs) fellow to move to the barn. He was practically dragging me around the slick, muddy barnyard. He was bucking and kicking. I was just praying I didn't fall! Just about lost both boots in the muck. Then the horses had decided the calf stall was dryer than their stalls and wouldn't get out. There I was trying to shoo them out and coax him in. What a sight that had to have been. All the while it was getting darker and raining harder!!

Anyway, going to try to start somemore seeds tonight. I know its getting late, but it's way to cold and wet to plant anything around here. Our last average frost date is April 17. (my late step dad's b-day)

I'm in Rockland, Maine with dh. We're on a 3 week trip through New England. I had lobster for lunch and dinner...yummm!

I hope you are all having as much fun as we are. After a few days in the Boston area, we are changing our plans and are going to go check out land in West Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee. The last week has really made us aware that our life needs to be simplified and drastically downscaled.

I haven't received a response from the one in Angola. Yes, I'd love to join yours. Send me the info, please.

I hope when we get back from New England the weather will be good. I don't drive much in the winter - I was injured in a 27 car pile up on 69 in Dec. of '06 in a white out. I hope we don't have to wait till Spring to get together.

Dh is finally on the mend and went back to work...yippee! He's a dear and when he's well, he's a joy to be around but when he's ill, life sure changes. Oh well, I told him he stuck with me through several severe illnesses so I wouldn't kill him when he was miserable. He laughed and said we had a deal.

BTW, do you belong to the Angola Henhouse? I submitted an application to join but haven't heard anything yet.

I picked a bunch of apples yesterday and need to get them cooked. I will have to get the rest of them picked next week and put into the cellar. They're really firm apples and should keep well.

Marcy,

I received my Official paperwork and badge for my Farmgirl Sisterhood membership today!!! I'm so happy to be a part of this group.

I haven't been having much fun for the past few days because dh has been very sick. He's missed a couple of days of work, Friday and today and I really need him to get better. Why, of why do men have to be sicker than we ever were? I love him to death but I wish he'd perk up and go back to to the office. Enough complaining. He's a dear and I hope he'll be all better really soon.

We finally got some much needed rain today. I think we've seen the last of our wonderful weather for a while.

Have a great week.

DeereDawn - Do you ever to go the Tri State Gas Engine and Tractor show in Portland, IN. They have guests and exhibitors from all over the world. It's always at the end of August. We had a booth in the antiques part for more than 15 years until my step dad had a heart attack and can't lift anymore. I have only been a couple times since then. Didn't make it this year either. I had to work a farm show at of all places - BECK'S Hybrids (ouch) My main duty there is to inform farmers of the Federal Motor Carrier Regulations that apply to them as well as state laws they must follow. It's my 3rd year. I love meeting and talking to all the people, but I am torn about the hybrid seeds they produce. There were over 7,000 people there this year and by the end of the 3 days, I felt like I had talked to all of them! It still amazes me how many farmers still don't know they have to have a medical certificate if they drive an articulated (bends in the middle) farm plated vehicle. They also have to have annual inspections done on vehicles & combos over 10,001 lbs. If they travel over state lines even if it's just a mile, they have to have DOT# and fuel tax permits. Someday we might get the word out to them all. That is one reason I like going to Beck's.

Went to the auction tonight and bought an apple peeler and a cherry stoner. THAT would have been nice a few weeks ago when we were hand stoning cherries for jelly!!!!!!!!!!!! I have to be careful about the sugar content so I used Splenda and organic sugar. It worked pretty well for the first time ever making jelly.

Hello to all those I haven't said hello to yet!!

I'll drop you a line when we get back. I'm sure we'll have a great time.

I usually only go to Yoders for fabric, so where is this other store? And do they have lots of craft stuff? My hubby doesnt like it when I go to Shipshe--things just find their way home with me too!!!

Nancy I think we will have to wait until you get back from your trip..I forgot about some obligations. New England in the Fall..sounds gorgeous!!!

No, the "girls" I was with are all a little bit older and they were ready to go home when we finished at the flea market. I have been to that shop, it's nice. At least I got some cases to work on!!

You sure had a gorgeous day for your trip. It sounds like you had fun. Did you go to the fabric store that's on the alley behind the Blue Gate restaurant? What a glorious place that is!!! It was like finding the end of the rainbow!

Had fun in Shipshe today. Bought a set of pillow cases to embroider for $2.50. Also got a shirt for my H that reminded me of a mishap he had with a trashcan and a dirty diaper. Yuck!! I went ahead and purchased 2 wide mouth mason jars lids with the pumps. They were kinda pricey but since I didn't spend much overall, I went ahead and got them. Bought some fruits and veggies too.

Back to the grind tomorrow.
