My best friend Kathy is going to have a kidney biopsy Monday morning the 14th. The doctor found a mass and wants to check it out. She has had cancer and is very depressed about this.
And my step dad just found out he had stage 2 prostate cancer. He will go Tuesday for a bone scan and will find out Thursday if it is in his bones. If not they will do hormone and radiation. He and my mom will be moving up here to their new home and he will take the treatments here.
I know they would so appreciate all the prayers they can get right now. Thank you all so much.

Hi Ruth. Gary is great. he will find out when he starts his radiation soon. And Kathy has not had her surgery yet. She is still waiting to find out. She was supposed to have the surgery tomorrow but not now. She had to retake tests. Hopefully she will find out soon. But her outlook is SO much better since she started on the anti depressant meds.

My step dad had his procedure the same time I had my colonoscopy this morning. He was in another hospital so my mom had to be with him. Anyway, he had some radiation seeds implanted into his prostate. So when he starts the radiation, it will have a target. He is back home and is doing great. Now waiting on word as to when the radiation will start. It's been a long road since he found out about this.
And I talked to my friend Kathy this morning. Her doctor put her on an anti-depressant last week. I can hardly believe the difference in her since then. She sounds like herself again. But now she is still waiting on news from the tests she had to retake last week. Then maybe be rescheduled for her surgery soon. She has had a very long road as well. And she's ready for this to be over.

Well, I think I posted too soon about kathy the other day. She is NOT doing as well as I thought. She was just having a better day that day. But the past week she has been sick again. She can't hardly walk. When she does she's out of breath real fast. She goes today for the pre-op at the hospital and is calling her doctor to see if she can come in today to see what's wrong. I hope she gets in today. She is just miserable. She's scared. I hope it's not a blood clot. She's had one before and almost died. I just want her better and over all this.
And my step dad goes to a doctor today. Can't remember for what exactly but will update.

I talked to Kathy today. She sounds SO much better. She was getting dressed to go out running around with her hubby. They have always gone on Friday to get his check and go to the bank then out to eat before he goes to work on 2nd shift. But lately she hasn't been going. So today she felt better and it was a beautiful day so she went. i was so happy for her. Just a week and a half til her surgery now.
Also step dad sees a doctor Monday. They have to implant some "seeds" into his prostate so the radiation has a target to hit. I can't remember when they will do that but he has to do pre-op stuff for that. THEN after all this he might start the radiation. I think the doctor Monday does all the marking. I am not sure really. They are finding out there is alot more to this than they thought initially.
And my mom will go Tuesday to talk to a clinic that has counseling to become a volunteer a few days a week. She is so excited about doing this. SHe just loved her job. And this will get her foot in the door to work there. So I am happy for her.

Hi Ruth. I will go see kathy tomorrow. I want to see if whatever her doctor gave her for her cough has helped yet. Thanks for asking. I will let you know when I find out. I am waiting on Mazie to have her calf. I hope she waits a few more days. We should be drying up. I told her to wait til next week.

I just talked to Kathy. She sounds awful. But she said her doctor called her on Say. to see how her visit went with the specialist. Waht about that? Anyway, he called her in a prescription for something for her cough. But she has to go in early in the morning for some tests for ehr surgery and didn't want to take anything before that. So as soon as she gets back home she'll start it. She's funny about things like this. So at least they are trying to help her.
Thank you all for your continued prayers and good thoughts. I know that's what's getting her through this so far.

Well, Kristin. It is Monday and I wonder if Kathy followed through and called her doctor. I feel so happy that she got to a specialsit and surgically the tumore can be removed. It would be great to get her lungs better, as she will have a general anesthetic. It would even be great if she could see that this is an opportunity for starting over. Maybe she could shed some weight. With prayer this all could be good!
And for your step-father..it seems the only things that can hurt us are the things we don't know about. When we find a problem, then we can deal with it. I'm so happy that he is on his way with treatment. Will continue praying!

Ruth, Kathy is so stubborn and is hard to get to do anything. I told her today she needs to call her regular doctor and let her know what's going on with her. If she is sick I don't see how they can operate on her. She has no energy at all. She said she'd call Monday. I will call her and keep on her about this. She needs to get something done asap. I was just thinking I might take her some elderberry syrup. It couldn't hurt.
And my mom has been talking to a counseling center here. But right now they can't pay so it would be voluntary for awhile. She'd be ok with that. But she will also have to wait and see how Gary does with this radiation.

Hi Kris, Have they checked Kathy's lungs? I'm sure they have but sometime when there is a major issue, they overlook some other things - sort of "tunnel vision". Thanks for the update on her. She is in my prayers, as well as your parents.
I'm sure your Mom will be able to find a job at a Women's Shelter. I know we have several in our area.

I saw kathy today. She has a cancerous mass on her adrenal gland that's on top of her kidney. She will go in Mar. 30th and have it removed. She really liked the doctor. He didn't seem to awfully concerned. But she has got to get over whatever is making her so weak and coughing. Almost like pneumonia or something. She has no energy at all. Sleeps all the time. Anyway, just thought I'd pass that along.

Hey. I just thought I would bring this back up and ask that y'all please say a prayer for my friend Kathy. She is finally going to the specialist in the morning. She is so depressed about all this. She just wants answers. I hope they will be able to tell her something. This has been a very long wait for her. Thanks so much to those that sent her cards. They really meant alot to her. Thank you.
And my step dad had his first hormone shot last week. He and my mom will be moving up here to their "new" home next week. Then he will start his radiation treatments. Mom will be retiring on her 79th birthday the 9th. Then they are moving up here to start this next chapter of their lives. Please pray that my mom will be able to handle not working. She really loves her job as a counselor for a battered women's shelter. She will be looking for a place up here when things settle down with my step dad. She loves working and I think she will be able to find something in this field here.

I went to see Kathy this afternoon. The doctor called with an appt. for March 3rd. with a specialist. She also has called and requested the doctor call her. She is under such emotional stress. She needs some answers from him. So I hope he calls her back soon. She's just miserable right now. And you're right, Annika, the waiting is the worst thing for her at this time. ANd the not knowing what it is. SO I hope he has the decency to call her and talk to her and ease her mind a bit.
Thank you all so much for all the prayers and good thoughts for her. I appreciate it so much. I'll keep y'all posted as I hear.

Oh Kris, I have been through cancers of various kinds with many of my kin and the waiting is almost the worse and the stress of not knowing can be so detrimental to body and mind. I just found this thread and am so very thankful that your step dad's bones are cancer free! God bless him and sending much healing love and energy his way too.
Kathy is going through such a heart rending time with not knowing what is going on and what will come next. My heart truly goes out to her and I'm sending much healing love and comfort her way too.

Ok, yet another update about kathy. Just got off the phone with her. She said her doctor called today and has cancelled the appt for in the morning. The urine test came back and there is an excessive amount of protein. He said that means it's a different kind of cancer, whatever that means. So he is going to find a specialist and make an appt. for her to go see them. I hope it's soon. She is so frustrated right now. And this is just more waiting now.
