Posted - Mar 05 2009 : 08:32:11 AM Any good suggestions on how to break in new high heels? I wear high heels about once a year and I just bought some to wear to this event I have coming up next week and boy do I have some practicing to do! I know we have to walk a long way from where we park to the event, it'll probably be raining, so I don't want to hobble all the way, then stand there in misery for 3 hours! These are killer shoes, dark red patent leather, so I really want to wear them, but what's the best way to break them in? I wore them about 1/2 an hour yesterday and my arch is killing me today.

Posted - Mar 07 2009 : 12:37:27 PM Sherri, sorry the shoes had to go. I'm sure your feet will be thankful though! I enjoyed getting tips on how to walk in high heels though. I've been on a mom break for nearly 6 years and am way out of practice when it comes to dress shoes.

Posted - Mar 07 2009 : 10:11:37 AM Hey Laura Marie! thanks for the great offer - I did return the shoes yesterday, but my event is Thursday and I'm just going to wear my old black heels - already broken in. I laughed when I read your story about your hubby - wouldn't work for me - I wear a size 5, 5 1/2, so he'd have a hard time getting into mine. I had a hysterical visual though of my dh wearing red patent leather heels at his commercial construction site - made my day!

Posted - Mar 06 2009 : 10:48:47 PM I just thought of something else I would add, if you have to return them but can find something else try to get some wedged shoes. You can get some really cute ones and they are sooooooo much more comfortable then just heels. I would prefer wedged shoes of high hills any days. But the high heels do provide a different effect! Good Luck!

Posted - Mar 06 2009 : 10:26:03 PM Sherri! I have some gel inserts for womens shoes for the ball of the foot. They work pretty well. I have used them for some of my shoes before. I have an unused pair of course. If you would like I could send them your way. The best way to break in shoes is to walk around the house in them and get them started. I'm afraid that almost regardless you will be sore. I get sore from just wearing high hills again. My fiance is shorter than me, so I tend to wear flats, which is fine by me. But when I do wear the heels I hurt the next morning. It's funny how something as cool as high heels can hurt your muscles. If you do have to return them let me know. I have a shoe rack full of shoes, I'm not sure what size you are, but I might just have something for you! Farm Girl Hugs!

Posted - Mar 06 2009 : 7:40:32 PM hehe---ok, I will assume that you promise not to tell..lol.. I have my hubby wear my heels to break them in. He has kind of a small foot for a guy (9.5) and I have a good foundation (9.5/10) So, he wears them just a little while (indoors of course, blinds closed lights dim) it stretches them just a bit to make them comfortable but not so much as to make them mishapen. but shhhh!!! don't tell.;)

Posted - Mar 06 2009 : 2:42:27 PM They are gorgeous - however a bit of an indulgence I'm afraid. I have them in the box ready to return - dh came home yesterday and said he was getting laid off again, so I don't really feel right about a luxury like those shoes right now. Thanks for the hints though and I will use them in my old high heels!!

Posted - Mar 06 2009 : 09:52:28 AM Janiee is right about the walk. I used to model a bit in fashion shows, and we were taught to walk using our whole leg, not just from the knee out. Extend those legs from the top of the thigh, walk from the hip. So many women walk with their shoulders first, landing hard on the ball of their feet. Thats how MEN walk, and it's painful! Do you have room for those thin 'gel' soles? Practice in your house every day, a little longer each day, and you'll be ready for the event. I agree, wear something comfortable and waterproof to GET you to the event, then change shoes. Lots of celebs do this before events. BTW< dark red patent leather sounds gorgeous!!!!

Posted - Mar 05 2009 : 3:19:34 PM Also, if youre worried about rain, wear a pair of practicle shoes until you get to the event and then slip into your new heels. Walking around with wet hose in leather heels is the worst feeling!

Posted - Mar 05 2009 : 08:34:24 AM I saw on TV this woman who said the best way to wear high heels is to be sure to walk from your hips and not your knees...so I try to remember that when I wear them and it has helped me a lot! janiee farmgirl #390 |
