I love hankies and won't be caught without one. I have lots so I can color match them with what I have on. Special one's for whatever the Holiday or event. I always have one to spare, just in case someone sheds a tear. A tissue is just thrown away, but a hanky is their memory that someone cared at the moment.
One sister in law loves to lay on my bed and go through them (I have over a 100 I'm sure) and I always let her pick her favorite to keep.
Who else has them and what do you do with them?

I too adore vintage hankies, and have collected them for many years-especially the hand embroidered all white hankies-they are so sweet and delicate--timeless don't you think?

Every Christmas my Grandmother would give me a set of hankies (boxed) from the Five and Dime; that's all she could afford and I loved them so!

And, as a little girl when we went to church, I would carry a dime for the collection plate wrapped in my hankie so I wouldn't lose it!

We should do a hankie swap! Clean and pressed of course!

Duh....I just read thru some of the other posts...darn I missed the swap! Was it fun?

Miss Manners would remind us that men use handkerchiefs and women use hankies. Men have stomachs and women have tummies. (giggles)

I have always used handkerchiefs. And my mom has been going through some stuff and came across all of my dad's so she has passed them on to me. I love the fact that they were my dad's. Every time I use one I think of him.

I don't use hankies per say, but, I have been given a few over the years, plus I inheirted some that were my g/ma's (both sides), plus I had some of my Momma's. I deceided that I wanted to make something out of them that show them off, some were very delicate, and they all were very pretty, lacy and embroidered. I used 2 white linen tablecloths that was scalloped on the edges, used some good thick batting and sewed them together , leaving the scalloped edge out, kinda like fringe, for lack of a better word. I then quilted all the hankies on one side, folded in all the differant shapes that you see, along with some lace and a few applicaes (sp?). This then went into my daughters hope chest, she has her chest with her, I gave it to her on her 25th birthday, that was 7 years ago. I also put my pearl necklace and earrings in with it, they were wore by my maternal grandma when she got married, my Momma and me, and she will wear them at her wedding.

Have dozens of hankies as I like reusable items. And I like the feel of a clean hankie when I wipe tears or dab my nose. Am blessed to have friends who give me old hankies as a gift.

Cloth hankies, cloth aprons, cloth napkins are the norm in my home.

I use hankies! I make my own. I have one stuck everywhere as I have 3 younguns under the age of 3 and it's nice to have them handy when they have runny noses especially outside in our cool crisp autumn days here in Minnesota. Actually, lately they don't have too many runny noses (thank the Lord) because I've begun to have my family eating better! and using lots of herbals for natural health!! I'm loving learning all about it. Oh, and just for the record - we use family wipes too :-) I just wash them up with my diapers and even hubby loves wiping with soft flannel rather than crisp paper ;-) He was skeptical at first but he came around. We don't buy any paper products anymore at all! Wow did that help our grocery bill!!!

I've been hunting around in my hometown thriftshops for handkerchiefs, but they are are getting hard to find. I think because we have a few antique stores in town as well, and they seem to be quite diligent in purchasing hankies to resell in their stores. I always look, but rarely do I find anything but the most worn out ones.

I love hankies. I have quite a collection that I have found thrifting and re-sale shops. I match my hankie to my outfit if I am going out. Especially for church. When I take my 10 month old grandaughter out with me I always bring one for her. They are extra pretty to wipe her tiny little nose!

Well what a great idea Shirley, I have a pink Christmas tree just for my bedroom. How cute to decorate it with vintage hankie's. Now I have to get creative with them since the tree is only 3 feet tall.

I love hankies! Unlike most of you girls, though, I don't have any of those great old hankies - I only have the ones I've made for myself. I go the JC Penny and buy a bulk pack of mens hankies (in the dress shirt section), bring them home and embroider my own little designs on the corners. They work well, wash well (since the embroidery cotton washes just like the hankie cotton) and better still, I can put what I want on them. My daughter loves a cartoon character named Pucca, so when she was sick last year I whipped out a new hankie with Pucca's head on the corner and did that ever make her smile! I would love to find some old beautifully printed hankies or those with the lace bits around the edges, but haven't been that lucky yet!

I pick up a hanky (old if possible) every time I go on a trip. When I get enough I plan to make them into a quilt top. They will get folded like a butterfly and appliqued onto a square. I will embroider the place I got the hanky and the date on the square also. So far I have about 5-6 saved up and will add another one whenever I go somewhere special.

Oh I use hankies. I like them better than tissues. I have a lot of my grandmother's that she put edgings on. I also have some I have picked up at shops. A.C. Moore has them here. I get them because they are a bit sturdier than the older ones that I have.

God is good....all the time.

I like hankies, too! They remind me of my grandma who always carried one in her black purse that clipped closed. (She never had one that zippered.)

I just made a clothes pin bag and adding a little pocket so I could tuck a hankie in it. Never no when you may have to wipe your brow!! LOL

I use them all the time. Sometimes I tie one to the handle of my purse as a decoration, especially if it is printed and the purse a solid color. Other times it's just inside the purse. I get them from estate sales.

Yes! I have several in my purse at all times. I love finding them at estate sales - my favorite are the red and white valentine ones.
