Posted - Jul 19 2009 : 10:01:35 PM Maybe this subject has been on here before, but when it is so hot do any of you wear cotton slips? I find that they are much cooler and I don't sweat as bad as when I wear a nylon one.
I would like to know where you buy them. I have made slips in the past and I wonder what kind of cotton fabric too use.
Some help please.

Posted - Jul 20 2009 : 7:52:39 PM Melody - I just thought I'd let you know I was able to find all of them except the camisole pattern - apparently they don't make that one anymore, but I think I'm going to order the petticoat pattern as it also has a camisole with it. Thanks again!

Posted - Jul 20 2009 : 7:42:49 PM Thanks Melody - I'll see if I can find them - I've been looking for something to wear under skirts - but I just can't tolerate the feeling of that slimy tricot on my legs! Cotton - batiste would be perfect.

Posted - Jul 20 2009 : 2:12:48 PM Yes Sherri, In the 80's I bought a line of patterns called "Folkwear". They were reproductions of older designs. I got all the ones of Victorian underclothes (# 234 of 4 Camisoles), (#203 Long petticoat, Camisole and drawers), #223 (Lady's Chemise) #201 (Prairie dress)#207 Kinsale long cape). I also have a wedding dress somewhere. Hope this helps. Smiles, Melody June

Posted - Jul 20 2009 : 11:25:28 AM Nancy, you could make a slip. A few straight seams, an elastic waist band and a hem. You can use your imagination on adding vintage lace or leave it plain. You just follow the directions in the package. Just a little practice. Smiles, Melody June

Posted - Jul 20 2009 : 07:43:14 AM Hi Melody, do you use an actual slip pattern to make your slips and camisoles, or do you adapt a dress pattern?

Posted - Jul 20 2009 : 05:16:52 AM Vermont Country Store carries 100% cotton batiste slips and camisole's. They have a catalog you can order also. I pick up vintage cotton percale sheets (they are so soft) at thrift shops and antique shops to make my own. I make the long Victorian slips and camisole's and wear them for prairie dresses. Hope this helps. Smiles, Melody June

Posted - Jul 19 2009 : 10:51:44 PM I would love to get one. I did buy some bastiste to make one..just haven't got it done yet. My sewing/laundry room is like a sauna this time of year. I need to just drag the sewing machine and all into the kitchen for a day!! I hope someone has had an idea where to buy one for you. It would be cooler than nylon for sure!
