Any advice on where to find them on the internet? I know ebay and etsy are the obvious places but...
Are they easy to find in Antique stores?
The reason I'm asking is because I finally decided to try the "Super Easy Slipper" pattern in the last MJF and thought that those would be cute with sparkly buttons, but the buttons at JoAnn's were $7 for two! This does not make the slippers cost effective iykwim? Of course I 'm still justifying it by pointing out that when this pair gives out, I can use the buttons on the next pair etc....

Thanks all for your advice. Don't ask me why but for some reason it never occured to me to use my JoAnn's coupons on buttons!  Silly me.
I also never would have thought to make my own buttons either or about a button club! I'm so glad I posted this!
However, I solved my problem by mentioning it to my MIL. She has a boxes of buttons at her house. (Which really shouldn't surprise me, they have EVERYTHING in that house! It was dh's grandparents first.)

I have gotten some of my coolest buttons from sales hosted by my local button society. Individual members often have buttons for sale. I have never paid a lot for any of them.
Start here for Ohio. Most states have lots of subchapters. In Denver, there are like 20 groups in the metro area that have regular meetings and plan sales.

Flea markets, antique shops and look at the vintage dresses at thrift shops they have great buttons you can just remove. Or find really cool vintage ear rings clip the backs of them and super glue them onto a plain button that has the little metal loop on it so it can still be sewn on.

I found a pint sized canning jar of them one time at an antique store for $1. Can you believe I didn't buy it? Yeah, that was before I knew I would want them one day. I was like, "That's nice, but what would i DO with them? No , thanks........" WHAT?!!! I'd say look at the antique stores. Etsy is a good place to find them also.

LOL Yes you CAN always use them on the next pair. Maybe try a thrift shop? Sometimes you can find the coolest things there!
WOW Would love to see the pattern, but alas...
HHHMMM this also gives me an idea for maybe an MJF swap?? Make slippers for eachother? Now THAT would be nice to do (thinking aloud here)
