Posted - Sep 01 2009 : 07:28:34 AM gosh, i swear i must look afright when i'm outside in the garden, chicken coop, or yard working! i have my separate pile of clothes to work in, mostly coveralls i got while in the navy (they are fabulous work clothes!). my other clothes are mostly older, worn-out clothes. i'm always wearing my trusty, brown snowboots (i love them!) and my sunhat. but i'm not at all fashionable!
maryjane always looks beautiful in her working clothes, with her cute aprons and such.... do you take the time to look cute when you work outside? or are you like me, just throw on whatever is handy so you can get dirty?

Posted - Nov 05 2009 : 08:47:08 AM Shorts, tank top and flip-flops (IF I have to have something on my feet) in the summer. Except for lawnmowing and weedeating, then I wear real shoes and socks.
Sweats, long-sleeve tees or sweatshirts, jacket, mittens, earmuffs and wind resistant jacket and warm, waterproof boots that I can walk lots of miles in - - that's for winter.
If I can get by with it . . . I'm barefoot!!!

Posted - Nov 05 2009 : 04:59:01 AM That really depends on the weather. I live in KY, so we most definitely have most seasons. This past year we really didn't have a summer-but I digress. In the winter I usually wear my carhart coveralls, thermals, long johns, a sweatshirt, carhart jacket over that, a face cover, earmuffs, caps, and boots. I'm from California, so the cold really gets to me here. As far as the summer goes, usually sundresses. I don't have any cute aprons to wear outside, or any cute knickers, but they're on my list!

Posted - Nov 02 2009 : 8:05:19 PM Summer time, I still wear jeans because I use the trimmer and when that thing throws something @ your shins, it hurts! Jeans (khaki) and a long sleeved white t-shirt. Then, it's a big spring-loaded hat, (the kind of spring loaded like the pop-up windshield covers), & it came with a little pouch, got it at Target. I have a pair of wellies, a pair of muck clogs, and a pair of ankle wellies, & I decide depending on the chore. I wear a bandana to keep the sun off my neck. My gloves are the standard yellow leather with the cinch @ the wrist, hubby got them for me from Home Depot. I use a rubber pair for pulling weeds and such.
Autumn, it's pretty much the same thing, but I add a chambray shirt. I also have a skiller vest like the one MaryJane uses. It's great because it has all the pockets for pruners and gloves and the phone, and what ever else the task requires. I used to practically live in overalls, but the hassle of undoing the buckles (I got good @ undoing only one side) got to me after about 20 yrs of doing that.

Posted - Oct 28 2009 : 11:20:11 AM jeans full-time, year-round - just too many things growing up here that a person can get scratched on. Also wear nothing but boots all the time - where I live there is nothing but quarts, slate and rocks all over the place to trip or fall over. Walking in sandals is putting your life at risk. Warm weather it's a t-shirt and cotton cowboy shirt; winter it's long-shelved t-shirt and men's flannel shirts with a sweatshirt on top when I have to go outside and shovel snow - like today. Socks are light-weight in summer and heavy duty in winter. Gets pretty darn cold up here, so need all the heavy duty winter wear one can get. Love Cabela's and Duluth Trading Co. for gear that lasts forever and is of really good quality. Have things that are faded, but still like new.

Posted - Oct 28 2009 : 07:03:18 AM Warm weather: cutoff pants, tee shirts, leather mules with socks, big straw hat. Cold weather: last year's work pants (stretch knits), long seeves or sweatshirts, ame old mules or rubber boots if needed, denim jacket, baseball cap (Babylon 5). Hardly, anything matches, but I get the work done.

Posted - Oct 27 2009 : 04:19:39 AM In cold weather, blue jeans, sweat shirts, jacket, gloves and boots. Summer time, capris and tank tops with flip flops, gloves and a cap if necessary. Not just any flip flops though, crocs all the way. I can walk around in them all day, and in winter, as long as it is dry, at least inside, crocs again. Great for my back and legs and so comfy. Recently I bought wool socks. My husband wears them all the time and talks about how wonderful they are. Wow, he is right, they are really great. Sheri

Posted - Oct 08 2009 : 10:34:08 AM I used to wear my old Army BDUs for yard work, gardening and fishing, but I seem to have outgrown them. Actually, I would work in the altogether and just some shoes if I could get away with it, but I can't. I will probably get some overalls and t-shirts from the thrift store this spring, if I can find any. If not, there's always Tractor Supply or somewhere I can get some.

Posted - Oct 08 2009 : 10:04:55 AM I've got this green shirt and green pants that I've washed so much the colors don't match and are faded out. In the garden I'll go barefoot or wear my father in law's crocs that he leaves behind. Sometimes I'll wear a baggy shirt and a pair of old jeans. Comfort is what I look for in work clothes. I know I probably look a mess.

Posted - Sep 29 2009 : 2:35:16 PM Overalls. I wear them ALL the TIME when I'm not at work. They are fantastic. It is hard to find them in ladies sizes. I just get them from the farm/ranch stores and buy the smallest mens size I can find.

Posted - Sep 29 2009 : 10:52:55 AM Summer time finds me mucking stalls etc. in shorts and a tank top with either skater shoes or pink plaid muck boots (depending on the weather). Winter is jeans and t-shirts or sweat-shirts layered as many layers as possible. I have ball-caps, visors and a straw cowboy hat that get changed by whichever one is closest at hand. I want one of Mary Janes hats. The one she is wearing on the last issue of the magazine. I love that hat.

Posted - Sep 17 2009 : 8:55:34 PM Working outside in the summer I wear just shorts and a T, but in the winter I wear as many layers as it takes. We can get to 30-40 below zero in Minnesota. When I'm teaching swimming, I wear a bathing suit.

Posted - Sep 08 2009 : 08:11:16 AM I have "outdoor" clothes, too. I usually buy jeans at the thrift to hack around in, and wear those. I always wear my garden clogs, or if digging or mud work, my hunter knee high wader boots. If it's cold, I wear a wool sweater and hand knit hat, and if it's warm, always a tee shirt with, don't laugh, cotton leg warmers on my arms when I weed, or pick beans, because my arms get itchy or the risk of poison ivy. I can take them off when I get too hot, or the job is done. I also have a lot of those wool Pendleton and LL Bean shirt jackets that I wear over a long sleeve tee or thermal when it's cooler.
And I second Janice's "fashion" glasses! They rock!!!

Posted - Sep 04 2009 : 10:52:56 AM I kinda answered this on the gussied up topic. In the winter I wear long johns and sweats or jeans. Lots of layers on the top. stocking cap, ear muffs, gloves, muffler. In the summer, I take off all that is allowed. I am lucky that I don't sunburn but I wear sun protective glasses and a big straw hat.

Posted - Sep 02 2009 : 1:34:35 PM Depending on the weather, its either a tank-top and jeans in summer, t-shirt and jeans in spring and fall, sweatshirt and jeans in the winter, and if I'm out working anywhere on the ranch, its boots. If its easy simple stuff its either tennis shoes or flip-flops. Oh, and of course a hat, a straw cowboy hat or a baseball cap and in the winter, a stocking cap. I also do have a few pairs of overalls. Never anything fancy, and most gotten from thrift stores, that way when I rip it, its not a expensive loss, lol.

Posted - Sep 02 2009 : 08:32:24 AM Megan, my overalls are men's. As a matter of fact, my wranglers are mens too. I hate stretch jeans.
My outdoor attire is jeans/overalls, muck boots, ball cap and a t-shirt. If I'm in the chicken coop, I always have a bandanna to put over my nose & mouth like a bandit. If I'm in the garden there is an apron involved due to whatever I may bring in. Oh, and if I dont have on muck boots I have on yellow garden clogs with lady bugs on them.
