Posted - Mar 20 2010 : 08:30:06 AM I'm working on designing a new skirt! It's going to be a 25 inch circle skirt, with a huge ruffle all the way around, about 12 inches long! I really think it's going to be great, and I'm really excited about it...what do y'all think? Have you ever seen a skirt like this?
I found some really cheap (and thin!) fabric at Walmart a week or so ago, for $1 a yard! I bought all 11.75 yards of it!!! Hey, for $1 a yard, why not!!! I don't know how much fabric this skirt will take, exactly, so I figured 11.75 yards would be more than enough!
Oh, you can't tell I'm excited about it, can you???

Posted - Mar 21 2010 : 8:33:14 PM Kayla, That is so nice of you!! The $1 a yard fabric store in my old state of California ( yes, you read that right- bargains in California!) has 60 inch wide fabric fairly often. The money was being raised for charity, and the fabric was donated by a dress making company. That's where I'll get the fabric when I order my riding skirt. I was the only midwife doing homebirth after C- section, and I had hospital back up for it. Every now and then, I'll go back for one of my VBAC moms since they have to travel an hour for the only hospital that does VBAC. That will give me a chance to go to the $1 a yr fabric store in MAy and Oct. Mary LD

Posted - Mar 21 2010 : 7:36:30 PM I've done a couple of half circle wraps! It's been a while, but I made both me and my mom one. They have to be made with 60 inch fabric, which I don't get very often, so I haven't made a lot of them. I've been doing foody how-to blogs lately...maybe I should switch gears and do some sewing stuff? It's not very hard at all...just some basic math figuring. Even if I don't make another one soon, maybe I will draw it out in my design sketch book, and take a close-up picture of it, and put it on my blog. I don't know...just an idea! I don't know if it would show up well enough, but maybe I could just explain all the figuring.

Posted - Mar 21 2010 : 2:08:41 PM For those of you who who have not haad the pleasure of meeting anyone in the amazing Custer family, check out their website. They do everything that most of us gals here only dream of! & Miss Kayla...well, I have been trying to get her dad to build me my own private wing. but so far..I don't think it is happening. I would love to be mentored by her & she is less than half my age! As far as the skirt...if I could only figure out how to start my brand new machine.. I may be able to at least stitch the hem. After that.....Does anyone remember he dress Lucy made in I Love Lucy???? I could only wish for mine to look that good! |

What about a half circle skirt? Does anyone know how to make those?? Mary LD
