Posted - May 17 2010 : 11:42:45 AM My daughter (who lives for dresses) just had her kindergarten "graduation" celebration last Thursday. They sang "First Grade, First Grade" to the tune of "New York, New York," complete with tophats and canes. Friday was actually the last day of school, and she chose to wear jeans and a pink top with "New York" spelled out in pink rhinestones on it. I'm sure that was because of the graduation song...but to top off her outfit (she called it "the finishing touch"), she tied a blue and white gingham apron with a swan embroidered on the pocket over her jeans. Real Farmgirl bling.

Posted - May 21 2010 : 12:28:09 PM Kris - I'm going to make Eliza some fancy, longish undies - like bloomers - to go under her skirts/dresses. I can't get her to wear tights in the summer, and she grows so fast her shorts end up looking like "boy short" undies, anyway! I think she'll really like lacy drawers (with regular undies underneath). I'll add petticoats in the winter...well, until it gets to -20 or so! Then it'll be back to snowpants outside and long pants with tights under for inside.
Marlyn - red rubber boots and gingham dress! How adorable! Finally convinced my girl to get a pair of boots withOUT Barbie or the Disney Princesses on them - but they're still pink. Sigh.
Tami Lynn - Eliza won't sit still for French braids, but regular ones are ok. The Boy is easier! Cut it 2x a year and we're good. Gonna shave it soon - nice and cool for summer.

Posted - May 19 2010 : 7:20:06 PM I just love kids in dresses. I have lots of dresses here for the grands. 2 of them love them and will wear them all the time. But I make them wear shorts or tights under them. I bet your daughter looked so cute.

Posted - May 19 2010 : 1:11:50 PM I wish Em would were pig tails. She likes her hair down with the exception of the occasional double french braid.

Posted - May 19 2010 : 09:40:47 AM Tami Lynn - Eliza doesn't have cowboy boots, but if she did, they'd be pink! She does have a pair of pink high heels (adult sized shoes for dress up that we got at a rummage sale for $1) that she would wear to the grocery store and church if I'd let her.
When I was a kid, I always wanted to play in dresses, after school. My mom NEVER let me get away with it; dresses to her were "good clothes." So I'm making sure Eliza has dresses for good and dresses to play in, too. Can't pretend to be Laura Ingalls in jeans. :-)

Posted - May 18 2010 : 12:37:41 PM I know just how cute that is! My little Em wears aprons EVERYWHERE. She insists on skirts and dresses, wears aprons and pink cowgirl boots. It tickles me to death. I tell people she's the little country girl I always wanted to be just never ended up with the body for it. ;-) Oh, she's 4 to boot so just about the same age as your little one.

Posted - May 18 2010 : 10:44:52 AM LOL - I didn't get to take a picture before she was off to school - next time.
Siobhan, I didn't make the apron. My mom volunteers at a resale shop at a church. Since we live so far away, and my kids are her only grands, she shares a lot of stories and pictures with the other ladies there, and they save cute stuff for my kids! I never have to buy anything for them (thank goodness), 'cause I've got about 10 Salvage Queens looking out for them. The embroidered swan is white double cross-stitch on the blue squares of the gingham - so simple and effective! I'll add a picture soon.
