I struggle with super small closets in our home. I have to keep "out of season" clothing in plastic tubs in one of our sheds. Every spring and fall I have to take an entire day to change the wardrobe over. I struggle with this because inevitably (like now it's been raining for 3 days) I need clothes before I have had a chance to change over. Besides, it never fails that as soon as I whip out the woolies the Indian Summer will kick the temps back up!!
Any ideas?

After reading everyone's dilema on where they store their off season clothing, I could'nt resist to respond. I, too, suffer with having one closet in a small house and weather that changes in the blink of an eye. I store clothes in plastic tubs (lots and lots) in outside sheds and even with the containers marked, it is still hard to find just what I could use for the moment. Most times I forget I own something and buy new only later to find I already have several of the same. lol My answer to this dilema...... a revolving closet.

HAHA!! Unfortunately, society deems a wardobe necessary... other wise "Naked is as naked be." I haven't been online in a while. Thanks for everyone's ideas. I love the thought of a "change" box! Sad to report I have yet to swap my stuff. Work got busy and the weather warmed again...maybe it will get done next week. As for now, I am sporting hooded sweatshirts and ball caps when venturing outside.

I just can't help it!lol. I saw your screen name..and then wondered why you would have to worry about a wardrobe change. But, seriously...I have storage issues also. We have lots of closets. However, the kids and grandkids store their out of season items here too. (GMA has not learned to say "no") Halloween costumes, winter coats, prom dresses, you know it. I should start charging.

I have small closets in my house too. How I handle it is I have a rather large dresser with 4 large drawers and 4 small drawers and I also have a very large armoire with 2 large drawers and shelves on the inside. It holds all my clothes. My small closet holds coats.

Lol! I kind of have the same issue! We have NO closets in our house (1920s farmhouse) except one small one under the stairs for coats. I keep much of the out of season stuff in plastic tubs also; or in my collection of vintage suitcases. We have a "foyer" between our two upstairs bedrooms, so my husband installed a "bar" across there to hang clothes until we build closets in the bedrooms.

I do the same. But I make sure I leave a few things out so that if it does get a little warm that I dont heat to death. It is a pain to do every year but when you have a small house that is what you have to do.

Me too! Me too! Maybe this will help a little: I try to seperate them when I put them away. I have one tub that is for "the change". That one tub holds night gowns [one of the first cool weather things I need] scarves, and a few not-so-wooly barely-winter type clothing and a good jacket and a home jacket. It was wonderful to just drag that one tub in this fall! [yes it is still in the living room,how did you know?] Here in good old AR we went from 98 to almost freezing in 48 hours. Not too unusual for here, but I notice a lot of the nation is doing that now. Anyway, maybe this will help. As the cooler weather settles in I will bring in the rest. While I am putting away summer clothes I am doing the same thing.

Seana, I have to do the exact same thing. Right now we go from warm to cool from week to week. I put away my extreme summer clothes and keep out some short sleeved that I can put a sweater over. Eventually, all the short sleeves will be in totes in storage.

The farm house that I'm living in has really small closets also. Some of my clothing from different seasons share a hanger. For example, keep a summer top underneath a long sleeved button up shirt or a jacket.
I just saw that you posted this in early October. Here in Colorado Springs, over the last 20 days its been unseasonably hot and then cold and then nice and then frigid. It's supposed to be nice again this weekend.

I have the same problem. I just packed away all my summer clothes, now it is warm again for awhile!!!! Oh well, what can we do?
