I read something recently about freezing bananas by slicing them up with they're very ripe and saving them to make smoothies. But I can't find the instructions for it. Has anyone done this? I have a bag full of ripe bananas and I don't want them to go to waste.

you can do the same things with tomatoes, just throw them in a freezer bag
then take out as many as you want...run under warm water for 10 seconds
and they slip out of the skins ready to be chopped and put into soups, stews
and chili. Hmmm, its kind of cool here today, chili, not a bad thought.

I peel my bananas and put them in a gallon ziploc freezer bag whole. We use them for smoothies most mornings and I love not having to deal with slimy banana peels. Gross!!! We use almost all frozen fruit in our smoothies and having frozen bananas works so great! I wouldn't bother chopping them. Too much work. If you only want half a banana, they do break fairly easily once frozen or just cut in half before you freeze them.

I make a smoothie for my husband every work morning. Since he leaves at 5:30 am, I put slices about 1/2 banana in a sandwich bag each and then put the little bags in a bigger freezer bag so not to turn color etc. I then take one little baggy out, use some yoghurt, berries and juice & whirr. If I just want an orange Julius type.. just OJ, yoghurt, bananas and blend. I see sugar added to so many recipes, but if the bananas and ripe (but not too), it is quite sweet enough.

I do peel mine, but I leave them whole, and they slice just fine, even frozen. I like putting parchment paper down on my cookie sheet I'm using so that the clean up is easy.

My daughter's and myself just freeze them in the peels, and use them for smoothies, etc.

For smoothies, I slice them and then throw them in the bag. I try to keep the slices about an inch thick, so that when I want a chunk or two, it is easy to get. If you want to individually freeze them before putting them in the bag, slice them and put them in an ice cube tray and popp them in the freezer. Once frozen pop them out of the tray into a bag. They stick to each other less that way.

For banana bread or other baking, I do the same as everyone else.... Peel and all gets thrown in the freezer, lol.

I do the same as Janet. When you thaw them, the banana slips right out of the peel and is already "mashed." LOVE that!

I just put mine in a freezer bag, peels and all. They thaw out nicely, good for banana bread, I am sure they would be for smoothies too.
