It's that time of year again. Yup. Buckets of green tomatoes and frost any day now. I live in a frost pocket and know certain doom when I see it.

No one likes fried greenies in my house and the "chow-chow? that I've had was not inspiring. I've resorted to composting them in the past, but this year I've got so many that I can't bring myself to it.

I went recipe hunting and found this delightful sounding mess!

Annika, here is the recipe for Martha Stewart's Chutney:

Green Tomato Chutney

4 cups peeled and chopped tomatoes
2/3 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup yellow bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1 small garlic clove, minced
1 cup packed light brown sugar
2/3 cup cider vinegar
2 Tablespoons peeled and minced fresh ginger
1 teaspoon coarse Kosher salt
1 Tablespoon mustard seed
1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
1 1/2 teaspoons grated lemon zest
1 cup golden raisins

Place all ingredients in a large, nonreactive pot, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer until the mixture is very thick, 1- ½ to 2 hours. Let cool slightly. Ladle into hot sterilized half-pint jars and seal. Yield: 1-½ pints.

The chutney sounds great with the pineapple! I have made Green Tomato Mincemeat and we really like it as well as Green Tomato Salsa. I also found a chutney recipe from Martha Stewart that is very tasty too. I will see if I can find the thread I posted last year:)

Annika,
I haven't looked at the recipes, but just the titles sound good! We don't have an abundance of tomatoes this year and, so far, we're able to pick them ripe. We'll see how the next couple weeks go. If it looks like we'll have green ones to pick, I'll be looking at the recipes too!
Let us know if you try any and what you think!
