I have hung on to this for ever!!!
I remember another version, more square shaped called 'Lady Remington'...
And then of course we all remember the stinky 'Nair' and 'Neet' depilatory creams..

Oh Grace, I remember the nair phase! That stuff was awful. There is a reason you don't hear about it anymore.

I would love to hear about it too sometime.

OK,, so here goes...
I had heard that by 'waxing' ones legs, the hairs take about 1 month to grow back, .. which sounded great to me,, verses shaving my legs every 3-4 days.. and not to mention the occasional scraps from blades that were no longer sharp!! Trying to get that 1 more use out of a tossible razor!
So I purchased a 'Do-it-yourself' leg waxing kit and got to work, used a small old coffee can, and a pot with boiling water (kind of like a double boiler... melted the wax, read the instructions and then re-read them again..
!: melt wax
2: Using wooden stick "included in the kit".. (think of a wooden tongue depressor) spread on a 1' wide strip of wax on leg.
3: let wax cool
4: Rapidly pull wax from opposite direction of hair growth to remove the hair.
5: Repeat until finished..

Pretty simple,,, Right ???

Then my brain kicks into gear.. well heck, why not wax my entire leg and then pull all at once!?!? Brilliant,, Right!?!?

UMMM, Ya.. NOT!!!
After the tears stopped flowing, I use my old 500 watt hair dryer to warm up the wax on my legs so I could scrap, & rub off the wax on my legs..

Moral of the story.. Tell your husband you are going back to being 'Natural'.. If God wanted us to have hairless legs, he would have created up with out hairy legs..

And now that I am at a certain age, my philosophy is,, if the leg hairs are long enough to braid, then it's time to shave... LOLOL!

Aren't you glad you asked?? LOLOL!
Oh and side note, glad I didn't think to do my armpit hairs! AACCKK!!

Gave up shaving and one Nair use many years ago. I don't see any men shaving legs/armpits to be more attractive to us.

Wanda Sue, waxing my legs is right up there with making homemade sun tanning oil (oil & vinegar and iodine) not only did I burn but I was the only one on the beach that smelled like a baking salad dressing lol!

Home made hair bleach.. squeeze lemon juice one the hair, and walk around all day in the sun with sticky- greasy looking hair. Not to mention sunburned scalp..

Oh the silly things we would do…

Grace, loved your waxing story. One of the perks of being 83 is my legs are hairless. Now if only my toenails would stop growing.

lol Grace, I remember the lemon juice in the hair, but not your suntan concoction. My sister would use just baby oil. BUT, when we visited my husband’s friend back in the day, his wife walked in with a can of STP motor oil that she was using to tan with!!! Has anybody ever heard of that?!?! I can’t even imagine how hard it was to wash that off, let alone what effect it had on her body! She did get a really dark tan after a week but oh my goodness, that can’t be good for your body.

I remember once I used mayonnaise as a hair conditioner, but didn't completely wash it out. Had a greasy head and got teased that day.

STP -- Oh My!!! Not to mention, the motor oil odor! lol!

Oh Ya,, I forgot all about the 'mayo' hair conditioner.. needed several washings!!!

Oh and don't forget.. 'sneaking' one of my dad's can of beer, using a 'church key' (for those of you who know) to poke a hole in the can, then let it go stale to use to give body and setting curls.. lol!... try that and then go to school and have a teacher ask what you/I drank for breakfast that morning!!

ahh the 1970's what a great time to be a poor teenager! lol!

You should write a book, Grace! I would love to read it LOL! One time I had the hair dresser wax my eyebrows and I about smacked her when she ripped the wax off! Never again!!!! I can't even imagine what that would feel like on my legs. I used to use Sun In to lighten my hair - always made it turn orangish.

lol! Heather, I have to laugh… The most demure, sweet, kind never use a foul word person can go Tasmanian devil when it comes to eyebrow or leg waxing… Lol by the way, who invented that? Probably a man who got dumped by his girlfriend! Rolling on the floor, laughing my you know what off!

That being said, back when those Brazilian waxing were all the rage, for gals, who wore butt floss, bathing suits… They a daily talk show did an interview with a waxing salon, and volunteered one of their male colleagues to be waxed… oh my gosh! It was hysterical… Not only did he scream like a girl, his eyes started watering, it was all he could do to keep from using profanity… So at least there’s one man out there who knows what it’s like, and what us gals go through in the name of beauty…
As for the sun in, oh yeah, sticky, and orangey… But we thought we were cool, and we all know, “Teen magazine”, would never lie!

Grace, that is so funny! I can only imagine the pain you experienced! Thank goodness you can laugh about it now. And I agree with Heather. You should write a book about all your adventures. Your writing style would make for a very funny and amusing book!
