Sadly, times are changing. People are more careful about stopping to help someone, and likewise, we are more fearful of those who do stop. It is sad. I ran out of gas years ago on the freeway. Some bad things were going on in our area, and I was really scared. I man pulled up behind me and asked if I needed help. I told him that I had run out of gas, but that I would be okay. He went back to his truck and put 5 gallons of gas in my car from a can that he had in his truck. He got in his car and drove away without another word. I have always been grateful for his kindness toward me. I try to help others when I can.

At last our newspaper office has moved to a new location. The building is 2 doors down from the post office and across the street from the Courthouse. Besides the news about our moved, I traced the history of our local newspapers from 1899 to the present.

Vanessa, what a marvel to still have the newspaper in your community that started back in 1899! America has gone through some incredible changes and growth since then too. Our city stopped the regular paper and it is all online now. It takes so much personality out of the paper , I find, when it is all online.

I also miss getting a real newspaper in print. I can't even find the Chicago Tribune in my grocery store. Good luck in your new offices.

We have bound issues back to 1951. Back then there weren't as many pictures, but there were more local tidbits, wedding announcements and engagements.
I'll be speaking to 5th graders tomorrow during Career Day. There are many different jobs that contribute to newspapers that they can consider.
I give myself 4 more years of work. My husband wants to take a long trip but I just can't be gone that long.

Vanessa you are so lucky your town still has a newspaper. My town out sources the printing of the paper and now it is about 6 page and half is advertisement. Miss having coffee in the morning and reading the paper.

I have been remiss in keeping this thread going, so I thought I would stop by and say hi and remember why we have this weekend.
We have a Pioneer Cemetery in town that we have only just heard about. We have over 100 Veterans buried in this cemetery with 6 from the Civil War. So we will visit the cemetery this weekend to honor all who are there.

Thanks Debbie for reminding us of why we celebrate Memorial Day. When you go to the Pioneer Cemetery and walk among the fallen soldiers say a silent prayer of thanks from me.

Thanks for the reminder, Debbie! My Dad served in the Marine Corps at the battle of Chosin. It was one of the most decisive battles in Marine Corps history. At my Dad's funeral, we found out that he had been decorated for carrying orders behind enemy lines. He never spoke of the war much during his life. There were eight of us children, and we never realized what a miracle it was that we were even alive! Thanks, Dad! Keeping up the good work guarding those streets in Heaven!

Our exchange students and I will be flying home tomorrow. Since we've been in Florida I drove them to Orlando to the Florida Mall (in heavy traffic), to Cocoa Beach and Ron Jon's, on an airboat ride and a few hours at the beach, and to the Brevard Zoo.
I need to get home to my regular schedule, my husband and my dogs, one of whom has diarrhea.

Just trying to keep from baking my brain in the intense SC summer heat. My brain and my body have been tired. I wasn't bothered by the summer heat last year, but I was still in my 50's. 61 is almost here and I do not care to get older. Time has to quit going by so fast. I have been reading my cookbooks. Not reading during day, I get sleepy. Reading relaxes me in day time but not at night. I have always been a warm weather gal. Love growing a big garden and enjoying the bounty. This season has been rough. I wake up a very early to get time in garden, and just sit awhile. Don't want to feel rushed in garden, take my time to enjoy. Anyone else chat with the spiders? About a week ago there was a HUGE spider in an organza bag where I keep velcro strips. I dumped her on the ground and next day she was in bag again. I moved the bag. Somedays I can't do anything and somedays I dont want to do anything. My neighbor has a young daughter, think she could share some of her energy-I need it

Today's good mood brought to you by a lot of coffee!!!

Tara I understand how you feel. Dealing with MS fatigue I have days when I walk around in a mental fog. Can't say I have ever chatted with a spider, doubt I ever will, but I do talk to mockingbirds.

No chatting with spiders for me but oh I love talking to the birds, chipmunks and Squirrels. I am so thankful that I live on the coast so I do not have to deal with the heat. We left Colorado because of the snow and cold could not handle that weather either. No, at 70 with fibro, arthritis and other crazy things going on with my body, I could not handle the heat or cold! So Blessed to be where I am.
Take care girls and hang out in the AC when you can and chill for awhile. No need to rush to do anything.

I am in grouchy old lady mode after shopping at our Dollar General. They had Halloween decorations! And not just any type, they were pastel! Now the Halloween decorator in me loves them, but I question the timing. Who in the Dollar General organization thinks that people are shopping for a holiday that is 3 months away? Hmph!
