2 years ago I found strawberry plants growing under a hedge on our property. I'm guessing the previous owner of other house dumped them. I dug them up and replanted. The plants gave me sweet fruit last year, not much. The deer love the leaves. Last Autumn I took the runners and planted in my vertical garden. The Greenstalk is by the garage. I'm hoping the deer wont venture this way. I have a question, if anyone grows strawberries. I planted runners in sand, no soil. The few berries last year(critters ate the plants) were very sweet. I know carrots will be sweeter when grown in a sand with very little dirt. Who has grown strawberries in very sandy soil?

Sad to see the bluebird box on ground : ( I found it this morning. Maybe the storm? The eggs were broken. I'm hoping Momma will return and build another nest. I did see her flying neat the box a few minutes ago. I'll add heavier wire to the box for better hold

Your strawberry plant looks like it's off to a great start! I have grown strawberries for 2 years. My soil isn't sandy, so I am not much help there. I would love to hear what others have to say since we just bought 2 more plants for the garden.

Taller stalks are silver queen corn. I planted peaches and cream corn for a later harvest. I planted anasazi beans for an experiment.
Krista, did the strawberry plants grow?

One of my new strawberry plants died but the other is still doing good! By the time I was finally able to plant them outside, the one didn't look so good. So I am not surprised that it died. I will have to find another one and try again.

Your corn looks great! We just planted ours on Sunday. I am excited for when ours start to get that big. We planted Precious Gem and Kandy Korn this year.

Oh my goodness Tara! What an adventure having a bear come into your yard. Your pear sauce looks great! Do you eat it like applesauce?

very long day in kitchen. My husband and I worked on this project together. 12 pint and a half jars of potatoes. I made another batch of pear sauce. price on red pears at a $1.28 a pound only good a week. I checked price last night, $2.89 -oh!
Blessed my garden finally received .51 inch of rain today. SC has been too hot and dry for weeks.

looked at trail cam card, now we have 2 bear. I'll try to get photo to upload.
I'm enjoying the cooler weather for the 1rst day of Autumn. I'll take 70* after a very HOT summer.

Tara, you have been busy. I bet it feels great to have all that food put away. 2 bears! That is crazy. Stay safe with them around.

Hubby helped with peeling apples for the pie filling.

The nose sticking out belongs to a flying squirrel. A pair has nested in a wren box this summer. I have named them Salem and Sassafras

Get a way to the SC coast. Sunrise from our villa

Me! The bed was too lumpy for my back. Loved listening to ocean waves at night and in the morning as we woke up. Kiawah Island our favorite beach to visit.
