Hello! I have just moved to Boise this February and really love it. And I also have just been introduced to the Farmgirl Connection through seeing a copy of Mary Janes magazine, then noticing in the newpaper her book signing yesterday (June 28) at the FlipSide Cafe in Boise, which I went to and then purchasing her wonderful new book (and had it signed!) - which brought me to this web site! I would love to hear from someone who lives in Boise and I am thinking I would love to start a MaryJaneFarm Farmgirl Chapter. I moved here so I could live in a neat old house - and thats exactly what I found. I bought a wonderful old house (built in 1900) in the North End with 5 bedrooms (one I will rent out) and 3 bathrooms with the 3 original claw foot tubs still in place! So anyone in Boise or surrounding areas that would like to get together, please let me know!

| Hello Rita, Welcome to the MJ. farm forum! I am in Utah but I was born and raised in southeast Idaho, definitely an Idaho farmgirl. Tell us more about your place are you set up as a B&B? We go to Boise every year and are eventually going to move in that direction or beyond. There is another poster here who lives in Emmett (I Think) and maybe one or two others. By now you have probably discovered the Boise farmers market. I love that market! and also the Co-Op which I haven't been to yet. Boise seems to have lots of art gallerys maybe the art community would interest you? My husband went to college there several years ago and just loved it. I have a claw foot tub it came from an old hotel near Lava hot Springs. Good luck fixing up your new old house it sounds wonderful. ~Kathy |

Hi Kathy - I had already started a reply to you and the whole web site dissappeared from the screen - I don't know what happened, so if you get two replys from me, maybe you got my first one that got lost! Anyway, thank you for writing - Utah has been on my list of places to visit for a long time. So now that I live in Idaho, maybe I'll get there one day! I just love my neighborhood - I'm on 18th St just North of State - Franklin Street ends right at my house. I don't think its quite big enough to be a "real" B&B - but I do have an extra bedroom to rent out, either for a steady tenant or maybe for nightly visits - I also have a guest room too - I'll just have to see what evolves - hay, and maybe I could do "trades" ! The only problem is , is that Mary Janes farm in Moscow in quite far from Boise . . but who knows! Anyway, like I said its a wonderful house. I picked this one because the previous owner kept all the original charm - like the 3 claw foot tubs etc . . . all beautiful hardwood floors and builtin cabinents. It also has a front enclosed "porch" - where I put all my bromiliads and a few orchids I brought from Calif with me. Most of the bromiliads I bought in Hawaii, so I was really hoping to have a good place to keep them. I actually haven't even been to the farmers market yet - but I have been to the coop a number of times - in fact I am working right across the parking lot in that darling shop called "Eyes of the World". Have you heard of that. They import wonderful things from all over . . . I just work there 2 days a week - just for the fun of it until I get settled and have to get a real job - which hopfully won't have to be for another couple of months.
Have you been to Mary Janes Farm?

Welcome Rita...Idaho is so pretty. I lived in McCall for a short time (about a year) lets see....20 years ago..loved it there. I also lived on the east side of the state (Victor) when I was a kid for a couple years. I am in central Utah now. (Kathy..where in Utah are you????)
Your house sounds great! Wow..clawfoot bath tubs..that would be so neat!! Cant' wait to hear more about you. again..welcome

There's nothing like a clawfoot tub. I have fond memories of when I was little taking baths at my grandmothers in a clawfoot tub, it was so much fun. It seemed like it was 10 feet long (I'm sure it wasn't) and we would slide from one end to the other. I had the chance to buy one about a year or so ago with the intension of using it when we build our house on the farm (not for about 3-5 years). So what do I do with it in the meantime? I put it outside filled it with dirt and planted flowers in it. It's adorable and well preserved until time comes to get it refinished for proper use. This one is only 4.5 feet long, so I've got my eyes open for another one that would be a bit more comfortable to actually use as it is intended. Until then it will bubble over with flowers.
Rita your place sounds absolutely charming and I bet in time as you have guests over, they will come to love your place, too. Have a blessed day.

Ah, Lynda, yours would be exactly the size I need, as my bathroom is now quite small ... I went from a huge "new and modern farmhouse" on one acre in a new development with huge bathroom and an enormous Jacuzzi tub to a tiny bathroom built about 15 years ago with a teeny tiny tub that used to have shower doors (they fell off during my first shower so I removed them). It isn't quite long enough to stretch out in (and I'm only 5'2"). So, one of these days when I can afford it, I'm re-doing it, getting rid of that tub and getting one I really like, and also replacing the built-in cabinet with a highboy.
When I can afford it ...

Hi Jenny - thank you for the warm welcome! Yes, it is so beautiful here. The first 4 months have been spent just unpacking and getting settled, but when my daughter came to visit eariler this month (summer break at San Diego State) and we did some site seeing - McCall being one of them. We stayed in a "Yurt" in the Ponderosa State Park. Very COOL ! Had dinner in town etc . . . what a beautiful drive. We also stayed in a dome at the Miracle Hot Springs - also very lovely. So I am getting aquainted with my new life here and really love it. I'm here with my dog, cat and tons of plants! And hopefully soon I can start up with some of my other hobbies - quilting and stained glass (which I haven't done in probably over 20 years! Luckly I had two nice ones I made back then and went just perfectly in my front enclosed porch.

Hi Paula - I might get a digital camera soon - I'll send you a picture of my three clawfoot tubs! And the bathrooms are so curt - expecially my bathroom up stairs. The space is small and because its under the roof line, it has a slanted ceiling and you can't even stand up at the toilet! - But very darling bathroom.

Nice to hear from you - yes, perhaps I will have guests here and will love this house as much as I do! In fact, I just got an email from a lady friend of mine from the church I attend and she works with the foreign exchange student program at the University here and has a student from Taiwan who needs a temporary place in August. I'm really looking forward to talking to her about that!

Hi Rita,
Welcome! Congradulations on the home and the move. I too am from California and love the upper eastern states. Looking forward to moving tward Idaho or Washington area not sure at the moment. Still have a few more years to go until we have all but two out of highschool and can make the break. It hard on kids to move much less in the middle of high school. Anyway, I sure hope you enjoy the wonderful weather. (lucky 118 degrees today here) I love Utahs mountains and Idahos Lushous homes and landscapes. Enjoy that tub it sounds very pampering.

Hi Robin - Thanks for the welcome email! Yes, understand your need to stay put for the time being - I also have 2 kids, but now 23 & 21 ! My daughter has already come (and loved it), not sure when my son will make it up here! Hopefully one day.

I just moved to Washington from Boise last winter. Lived there for about 15 years. I think Idaho is a wonderful state to live in and I miss it very much sometimes. I also moved to Boise from California 15 years ago. We lived in Redding CA and moved to Boise when I was 12.
We were just in Cascade/Mc Call on Saturday visiting some family. Beautiful country up there! Hope you enjoy it! Welcome to Farmgirl!

So glad you are here with us and hanging out. i am sure that you will enjoy it and become just as addicted as the rest of us.
I love claw foot tubs and have great memories with them. This spring, dd and I were going, i can't remember where, and she said mom did you see that. Of coarse I hadn't, she said there was a red tub. Okay, I was thinking washtub not bathtub. In my head i was trying to figure out why she wanted a red washtub. To each their own. We come around the block and I realize she meant a claw foot tub for 65.00. I was shocked and was sure that price was wrong. We went inside and the price was right, the gal said i have another one for that same price. I realize it is too low, but that is what the boss said. I said SOLD. So on both our front porches sit our claw foot tubs until we are ready for the bathroom remodels. DD is closer than I am.
How did I get off on that!!!!!!!
