Stephanie,
It's called Pattern Ease. My dd remembered it.
I'm glad cause it was driving me nuts.

Hey Carol Sue,
Sorry to hear you are only able to gaze into your sewing room and not getting to sew. There are times of action and times of rest though. So just take it easy I'm sure you'll be back at again soon. :)

well...i have a pattern that i got a long time ago that looks totally easy and not RenFiare traditional at all, as I am sure no one wore this dress then, but...I like it and it is close enough..and well...i need to make myself make this dress! It is simplicity...9891...I think I can put those small invisible zippers in the front seams over the breasts, so I can still nurse in it. I gave up trying to ween gia...it was not pretty...you would think after the 6 previous I would know how to ween a child! Anyway...i need to go back several pages and re read that link you gave us, I thought I saved it in my faves but I guess I did not! Oh well..I will start searching...you should have seen the amazing treadle I passed on today...but after my shopping trip yesterday...better safe than sorry! And...I looked at my receipts, and they charged me twice for several items, so no wonder it looks so bad...now I have to go back and convince them that the mean b playing unfriendly cashier last night really overcharged me! I should have looked before I left!

Okay, well...I am feeling better finallY!...but everything is coming out of me now...I just love snot!

Okay Steph...assoon as I finish my squares, I will be trying to figure out your little girly avatar!

Ok the Dress I have been working on.....It is a wrinkled mess being packed away. I also have the perfect blue silk to do the sleeves... but will get to that later.

One of the really nice things about working with good silk, you can sew, rip and there is no trace of being stitched. I did do the skirt in cartridge pleats, and if you look at the picture, that is so incorrect, so I will have to undo it, and do box pleats.

Patterns that I use frequently, like basic drawstring pants, wrap skirt, chemise's, I cut out in unbleached muslin, mark the necessaries on them with a Sharpie , and fold up and store in a drawer. I got yards of it when it was on sale for 78cents/yd or something.

Carol. Well, I did cut some out. I want to make the aprons reversible, so I know in my head what I would like for the other side so many are completely cut out.

Oh...I think i am watching about 65 right now, but I am not interested in a feather weight unless one fell in my lap...I just like the art on the treadles and the soothing rhythm on sewing on them! Something like driving an old car...takes awhile to get from 0 to 60, but then it is smooth sailing!

Elizabeth...good luck on getting that dress done...I hope it looks as great on you are on her! i agree, your gathers are off! I really have to get some fabric to make my dress with...studdied the pattern, and could probably put it together with my eyes shut, so it should not take too long. Did either of us telll you what wknds we are shooting for?

Don't know if anyone uses this method or not and obviously works best on smaller pattern pieces like aprons, accessories, etc..is to trace around your pattern piece onto "poster board, tag board"..it's inexpensive and makes it a so easy..just lay on fabric trace around with chalk, pen or pencil and cut out...

Hey try something like this... it is totally easy to make... I can make the under and over dress in an evening to fit each baby sitter we have taken.

Solid cotton is cheapest or linen or plaid. It is a celtic dress... if you do the under with an elastic neck and you can unlace the top easily.

My Ren dress is something like this, in velveteen and satin and is hotter than a pistol
to wear to our summer faires, so it just hangs~LOL http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5444.htm?tab=costumes&page=1
I like these wench chemise/skirt combos much better~without a corset
http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4863.htm?tab=costumes&page=4

I like this style with the angel sleeves:

I like the Featherweights because you get the art plus go from 0 to 60 instantly! LOL You get nostalgia and speed all in one. I love the look of the treadles but it's not my cup of tea for sewing on. Love to decorate with them tough..

HobLob for the McCalls 99cents, that's why I was looking at McC patterns.
That Simplicity is a nice pattern~flattering lines. Keeping it fairly simple and
streamlined will make for a comfortable day~you'll be doing lots of walking.
