the treadle machines are absolutely gorgeous. I had one as a teen..oh back when I was about Naomi's age..and bought it for only like $15..it was complete with the cabinet too. Wish I still had it. I needed money for a car payment one month and my dad bought it off of me..then wound up selling it. hind sight..arggh.
Anyhow..they are very pretty.
Always enjoy peeking in here and seeing what you gals all have been up to.The machines you find..the aprons you create..lots of fun.And I chuckle over the fun banter that goes back and forth.
I used to sew back when Naomi was a baby...but haven't sewn anything in oh gosh about 7-8 yrs now. (yeah I know..fer shame fer shame)
Maybe I'll get back to it soon.
But I doubt Naomi will want to share her sewing machine though.:0)

jBTW, yes that is the late hour, I ran away from home and played. Actually, I ran some stuff to Firemama and she needed a break as well, so took her up to recycling where you can get free house paint and other products that were used, showed her the pear trees that we ahve to pick this weekend so we don't lose them, toured her through Ben Franklins, (naughty of me) and gave her a tour of my humble abode and then shipped stuff home with her, fabric of couarse!!!! Ya gots to share....was a good diffuser for me. Pain just getting to me and I turned into the b word. Knew for my sake and my families that I needed a break.. Pain still here but mentallly helped a lot. Yes, laughing I know I am mental!!!!!!!! going to bed now.....will read this in the morning so I can keep up!!!!!lol

I will be MIA for a few days...........have to work all weekend.

Nay...........your package arrived. The coin purse and little bag are adorable and I LOVE the buttons and the little cup and saucer are incredible!! I will cherish all of them. Thank you so much! My camera is on the blink right now, but it is in the camera doctor so I hope to have photos up soon. THANKYOU!!!!!!!!!

Kathie.............I'm still here but crazy busy getting the girls in school. They start school on Tuesday.

Bev................Hope the guests aren't running you ragged (I know you won't see this until later)

Jess...............Girl...I don't know what you are putting in that coffee, but give me some. Your aprons production is record setting. And they are so beautiful. Oh, and listen you little treadle ho, leave some for us!! LOL.....go girl. Just don't start trading kids for treadles, then we will know you really finally flipped!!!!! That last one for ninteen dollars...wow, the cabinet is gorgeous!!!! You could start your own sweatshop soon.

E..................Pictures please of Renfaire!!!! Have fun and I so wish it was a closer drive for me. Sounds fabulous.

Carol Sue..........Hope you are feeling better and the pain is not too bad. I'll look at our Ben Franklin too, but I don't think they carry fabric....boo hoo!!!

Stephani...........I can hardly wait to see your collage aprons, I bet they are gorgeous!! I'm working on mine here and there when I get time, but it is difficult right now with the girls and hubby home alot. You know my life is there's when they are home.

Bonne..............Your package of fabric samples came...they are wonderful. Nay, you've got to get some of these, they would be perfect for your darling little coin purses and bags!! Oh, Bonne....did you get a pack of patterns? I think I mailed them, but with my brain lately, I swear I'm getting early alzheimers. I have another box started for you, it is going out today...with the sewing machine attachments and the black silk blouse. Slinky and sexy!

Grace............your package arrive and you were far too generous in the trade. I hope you like the little extra in yours!!! It is prewashed, hope you don't mind. You'll need to press it. The Halloween fabrics are adorable. I can hardly wait to use them. I think I might just make myself a panel skirt with all of the different Halloween fabrics that I have, or an apron overlay to a black A-line skirt!

I know I am missing so many, didn't have time to fully catch up.

Later............G

Hey girls! I know we are probably all busy this weekend, but if anyone is around I have some apron questions:

Bev sent me a beautiful pattern. I have all the pieces cut. I would say it's the same pattern as the watermelon apron on page one. Anyhoo, I'm not trying to make it reversible, but do I line it? I know I don't HAVE to do anything, but I want to do a nice job. Is it common to just leave it single thickness?

And bias tape...never used it before, but love the look. Is it added like a quilt binding or totally different?

Thank you Apron Gurus!!!

Bonnie,
To line or not to line.....that is the question. If you are working with a really light weight fabric, you might want to line it. But yes, it is ok to leave aprons unlined. Most aprons that I have seen in shops, antique stores etc, are not lined, but the inside finishing work is usually very nice, like doing french seams if seaming is necessary.......but that is not always the case either.

If you are attaching a bottom color or edging, it might be nice to cover that seam with the hem turnover or something. Then topstitch it down.

It just comes down to personal preference and where the seams are.

Bias tape, well, I've never bound a quilt, but bias tape just takes some practice. Just line it up and as Bev says, "Keep shoving the fabric deep into the bias tape and sew slow!!"

Hope this helps.

Thank you G, so I take it w/ Bias you are sewing it front and back at the same time with the fabric (apron)sandwiched in the middle??

And lining, would you sew right sides together and turn?

Sorry I ask so much! I'm one of those who likes a lot of directions!!!

Once again, it depends. If I was doing a complex scalloped hem, I would put right sides together and then clip curves and turn leaving the waistline open and then apply the waistband. If I was doing it this way, I would do all of the trim work first, then topstitch the edges after turning. I would also baste the top edges together before sewing into the waistband.

Otherwise, I would just baste edges with wrong sides together and the apply bias tape, and yes, sandwich the two layers between the bias tape!

G

Going MIA now....gotta go to work at noon until closing today.

Hey There Bonnie..in sewing it with lining and bias tape, you can just sew it with wrong sides together if you'd like and not deal with the bulk of a turned seam, since you are using the bias tape to finish off your edge..much like binding a quilt, but without the batting inbetween. hope this helps...jess

OKay to everybody else..i take the night off and hang with my husband and you really go to town here...

thank you everyone for the comps on all my aprons..i have been a little busy..i cannot imagine how much i would get done if i never had to take kids to school or soccer or girl scouts or anything else...and if i did not have to clean or do laundry or cook meals..could you only imagine!

georgann..not to rub it in but that last treadle was $10, not $19!!!! BArgain!

Carol Sue...would love 2 yrds of bewitched..I will email you or try to get your number from Kathie!

KAthie...have fun at the games this weekend.

Nay...i love the egyptian treadles...I have 2 sphinx...one I think will end up in Florida with KAthie, but I am trying to collect all the parts and pieces and get everything all cleaned up really well for her before I send it down to her...might be awhile.

They seem to be abundant inexpensively around here, so if anybody needs one let me know what you are looking for and I can keep my eyes peeled!! I just like to get them because I know I wont trash them...I will use it and give it the respect it deserves! So, anyone who is going to use it, I am happy to pick it up for you, and we have a really great network of people and the machine can start to journey to you...and Nay...I have relatives in Florida and someone is always going down to visit!!!

Carol Sue...what shape is your treadles lock? Triangle? Rectangle? Square? or is it one of those weird little slot types?

Stephanie..post pics on here when your aprons are done...I have a hard time finding things on your site. I am curious what you are doing..i have one I have been working on for like 6 months that i just do a bit here and there,,,I always think it is too eclectic but maybe you will inspire me!

Elizabeth...good luck this weekend! Linda{a rose} recently sent Ren Faire type patterns to me in all the kids sizes...maybe i can bust my buns for that. I am trying to coordinate all of our schedules for Sept and Oct this wknd..I will let you and Bev know when we can have our RenFaire get together!

Bev...hope you are hangin in there...I am sure you are just the best hostess! I have some fainting goat questions for you when you get back...if you see this, remind me.

Bonne...I will have to go check out your scraps! By the way do I owe you postage for anything? I cannot remember if we are all caught up...I am going to a festyival this afternoon looking for fun stuff for you in mind since you have been such a litte deary to us!

Bonnie...post pics of what you are doing for us!!

okay...did I address all of you? Who did I miss? I got everyone I think. I will post pics of my sphionx for you NAy!

Oh girls,
Those treadles are beautiful. I think I might have to check around here and see if there are any availabe.

Georgann,
I received your package. You are very generous. I love the tea cup and saucer and tea and also the pinkeep and patterns. I got a picture but I'll have to have one of my computer literates here show me how to put it up. But thank you for the lovely things.

You're welcome Jess!

Oh, I don't know what I'd do without the net research available on
these treadles. I found an entire manual for my Minnesota machine posted online.
What a plus, since they aren't as prevalent as the Singers, and to find the actual
hard copy manual would have taken some doing.

Yes, check Craigslist.com for your area plus any antique-mall-upscale-flea-market-type
venues; Ebay ~ search within your area for Pickups only; Ebay has one size fits most belts (most seem to need a new belt) and bobbins. (and I learned all this in 1 week! LOL)
Plus the good ole "classified ads" in the paper.
