Howdy ya'll. Kelly43 is back. I missed you ladies so much. Since I've been gone a lot has happened. We finally got our own farm!!!! Long story short it is almost right next door to the farm we rented on. 16 acres and a bigger house, we love it. Have been very busy moving, building fence, weeding etc.. No one lived here for almost two years so it needs some work but that is ok with me. I don't know how much time I'll get to spend with you guys but I wanted to check in and say hi. Missed ya, Kel

So great to see so many new farmgirl faces!! Thank you for the warm welcome backs. We are loving it here in our little piece of heaven. I don't think I thought it would ever happen. The farm was 25 acres but the county wanted some of the property for open space (connected to a living history farm circa 1900) so they bought it, kept 9 acres, and auctioned the rest. Originally a real estate lady bought it but then the housing market fell, she backed out of the deal and they auctioned it off. We got lucky that not very many people showed up to the auction and here we are. Definitly God's hands involved in this one. We have chickens and sheep. We still care for about 25 head of polled hereford cattle on the farm next door and make hay for our farm and several farms around us, and work off the farm. We will soon add a couple of horses too. DH would like to get a dairy cow (his BS is in Dairy Science) but don't know how practical that is yet time wise. We live in a historic district and much of the land around us is owned by the living history farm. Our small carriage barn is 1830 but the rest of the buildings are fairly new (sad as I love old things). The farm was in quite a ruin when the previous owner had it so the house is only about 10 years old. But they did build it to look like an old farmhouse. The farmstead itself is old and we do know alot of history to it as relatives of people who have lived here still are around. Thanks again for all the welcomes, I'm soooooo happy to be back, I really missed you guys!! Off to a sheep club meeting this morning. Hey Talitha, when did you go off to Japan? I guess I really have been away for a while.
Keep farmin' farmgirls!!

Kel

Your homestead sounds awesome, and having that historic reserve next door sounds wonderful! You won't have to worry about a McMansion subdivision buyin up the land!
