Merry Christmas!
I decided to be politically incorrect this year.

We had waffles after opening presents today. And the kids didn't really wake up until 8am, which was nice. We were up until 1am wrapping and such. Christmas just snuck up on us. Usually I'm a bit more prepared, but this year, not so much. Not sure whether it's my own space cadet self, or the whole juggling 3 kids 5 and under.

I got some cute photos of them ripping into things. And my 5yo got an awful lot of "gifts" of socks, underwear, jeans and shirts since he's just shot up in height/size again. Usually stuff I'd just wash and throw into his clothing rotation.

Didn't get pockets on the aprons or the felt stovetop done, but they don't care. They have enough to keep themselves busy.

It's still snowing. Of course. I think we're up above 44 inches for the month of December? And it's going to snow for the next week still. Record breaking and all that jazz.

Thawing steaks for hubby to grill up, got some crab legs from the store the other day so I think we're doing surf and turf for dinner. And maybe even going to a movie tonight after the kiddos go to bed because my mom's up here.

In less-than-cheery news, it seems my dad was whisked off to a 24-hour care place from his retirement home because he hasn't eaten in a few days. My sister's dealing with that right now. So my mom may be heading back that way at some point to help her out. (He's got a cancerous brain tumor that was diagnosed almost 3 years ago, but he hasn't been the most stellar of a father to me over the years anyway - so the part that upsets me the most is that my younger sister has to deal with it all herself since they're in the same city.)

lanna- yeah i know what you mean about christmas sneaking up on you cause it did here too. sorry about the sad news of the day

sharon-tell those boys they will not be spending holidays at your house if they behave like neanderthals, someone in your family should get a peaceful christmas and you deserve it.

we ate dinner ham and cheesy potatoe skins and i made a chocolate pudding pie but too full to eat it.
going to go post pics on my blog

Teresa, those apron dresses are very easy and fast to do up. Personally, I think they are the most adorable on little girls. I recently posted several tuts and other info that was from my MSN group originally posted years ago. MSN groups is being dissolved as of Feb. '09 , so I wanted to transfer some of my favorite how-to's before they got lost in the shutdown.;)
On the cowboy quilt I used big blocks, because the prints are scenic and I didn't want to lose the gist of the scene. I decided to back it with berber fleece I have on hand. My blankets are always "unconventional", since I use what I have on hand rather than go buy more fabric. Really have whittled down my fabric stash immensely this year , and I'm thrilled about that. ;)

And I got photos up on the blog... http://weblog.xanga.com/LannaM You can see my poor 5yo modeling the apron I labored over for a while. Actually, it might've taken me longer to make that thing than it did to labor him out all those years ago... The photo where I caught the kid in mid-jump just cracks me up though.

Hey Lanna, just looked at your pictures..I like the ribbon tab blankies..I think that would be neat on a large scales too...like my king size bed. :0)

And I can happily say that nobody has ever known me to be politically correct...not sure who started that "term"...must be someone that likes a flock of sheep following them that all have the identical thoughts....I appreciate people having their own thoughts and sticking to them instead of following what mainstream society can get started...there..that's better..I needed to come back and clarify that...

Oops, forgot..Bonne, I wonder if the shutdown of MSN groups is a sign that Microsoft IS going to buy YAHOO after all?? I've always thought they would (eventually)...

Steph, everything is back to normal. I never had problems on Christmas Day. In fact, it has been nice around here until today. It was emotionally draining.

Tina, oh how cute. Our family was able to visit with relatives in Arizona through Skype tonight. I was able to see the precious little grand nieces and grand nephew.

As exhausting as it is, even the clean up sounds kinda nice to me. No little ones here to chatter, chirp and squeal.
We had a very nice day with our big kids and aging parents- a very nice day- but the chirp was definitly missed!
How does that happen when ya have 5 kids and 8 grands???

I've looked at all your family celebrations and they sure bring back sweet memories!
Sharon- I guess boys will be boys-I'm with Jess-put em to work on something

Blessings,
Autumn

Jess, I guess the saving grace there is that they are staying in a hotel. :0)

Thomas, ya know, is next to oldest of 8 children...his mom lost a baby boy so there would have been 9....so he says at the point before the oldest moved out of the house the age range was from age 2 to 20..Anyhow, he was thinking of your household today as he thought back about his own childhood. There were 3 boys and 5 girls.

Hello, ladies!!

I went out and did some after Christmas shopping with my daughter. I am not feeling well. I feel like a truck ran over my head. Sinuses are all stuffed. It doesn't help that I'm very allergic to cats and my mom got another one and that started the mess on Christmas Eve. It's been downhill from there.

Jesse~good luck with your company. Emilia looks precious with all those adorable stuffies.

Girls,I loved all the pictures you have shared of the kids. So adorable.

Bonne~I love the quilt. So awesome.

I can't wait until the new monitor comes in. This one is horrible and I have a hard time reading the blogs and the pictures are dark and not clear at all.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and is now recuperating and resting.

Sharon~Sorry to hear about your boys. I agree with Jess put that energy to work.

We had a nice time. Usually it can be pretty rough at my mom's house but it wasn't too bad this time. We had a nice quiet day at home yesterday. My in-laws came to visit. My father-in-law is being awful and he didn't want us at his house. We had a wheelchair ambulance pick up my mil at the nursing home and take her to her house for Christmas. She was there for a few hours but he is mad at my husband and didn't want us there. No great loss because his house is gross and he doesn't take care of it. Really sad, though. We went to visit her in the nursing home on Christmas Eve. The rest of the family came to our house yesterday afternoon.

Blessings,
Ruth

OH YES..WE HAVE AN ENORMOUS TREE...12 FEET..sorry caps weas on..adn we have a rule that glass bulbs can only be above the head of the oldest kid. Lots of stuffed and paper ornies at the bottom

you know teresa, you should call poision control and have em send u the packet of all the things that are pioisonous around the house and in your yard...you will be amazed at the stuff you neverwould have thought of...i.e. lily of the valley, etc.

I did away with glass and ceramic ornaments years ago~ kids and pets do them in.
There are so many soft safe ornaments anymore. Makes you wonder how the rest of us survived childhood, huh? lol

You know, I used to run a daycare out of my home when my oldest son was 2 1/2 years old. I had azalea plants in the back yard, and we had to move them because they were considered a poisonous plant for children.
