Carol Sue, I don't know where those fairies are either because they have not been around here for awhile. I had to clean up my sewing area yesterday and I didn't see even a stray wing!! I did however find my BWOB apron that is all cut out and ready to sew. Christmas is really cutting into my craft time. I sorta just pass by all my projects and stand eyeing them with desire but never seem to get the time to sit down. The only reason I cleaned up my corner a bit yesterday is because that is the room where we put our Christmas tree. hugs, Denise

| And Bev has such a sweet way with things, might as well always have as pot of coffee and tea on to share a good story, but open only hours that suit her you know. |

Carol Sue: Well, my room is about done...just have a bunch of projects and stuff to put away before it is clean now! It may not be all clean until next Tuesdayish...moms civil war dress along wih little sisters and grandmas all need to be done by the 12th....so if I'm not on much..its cause I'm working away on those...when those are all done, I've got to get my butt in gear and get the Christmas presents done....wish me luck!

Naomi, good luck on getting those presents done. I have been busy with my website sales, and with mom's sickness. It will be different around here this year.
We get a new refrigerator this Saturday. I can't wait. The other one is about 19 years old and we never liked it. The refrigerator is showing its age and we are hoping that it will hold up until the new one arrives.

Bev,
I used to supply the fresh goat's milk and my friend was a beekeeper. She'd make milk and honey soap. Couldn't keep it made fast enough!
I milked every 12 hours and bottle fed 4x day for 6 weeks then reduced it to 3 times a day..Introduced free choice hay and grain. Of course, my kids were all in the "nursery" yard away from the dams..Plus I pasteurized the milk that went to the kids as part of the CAE prevention.
You can have a blood test run but it's not failproof. My herd was CAE negative but I backed it up with the pasteurization of the kids milk...seems to be what most herds do to further insure a healthy herd.
You could milk just once a day..filter the milk and freeze it. Then once you have enough built up you can make a batch of French Chevre. My recipe starts with 5 quarts of milk and I believe that yeilded just over 2 pounds of cheese. It can be packaged (with no seasoning or additions) and will keep in the freezer up to 6 months. It's one of the easiest and tastiest cheese to begin with. It's a soft cheese and can be used in so many ways.
So the only way to get any milk is to seperate the kids from the dam and milk her and bottle feed them. You can always supplement the milk with a "Land o the Lakes" milk replacer..it's good quality or supplement with cow's milk. The cost is about the same either way. Sounds kind of weird to think about feeding a goat cow's milk but they thrive very well. Many of the milk replacers have too many fillers and cause the scours and you don't want that..LOL
Did you buy from a local breeder or have them transported to you?
Talk to you later, Stephanie

We had the goats transported from a breeder in Maryland....not too far away. I know it is hard to understand having animals that don't produce....but you have to understand the OOOOoh and AAAaaahhhh appeal that these critters have for me. I just LOVE animals. We'll see what happens with the milking.
Yes, Jess, I have thought of opening up a little shop in that old log cabin that sits by the road on our property. You can see the picture of it at the top of my farm blog. It is over 200 years old and pretty sound...would make an adorable country store.....the only problem is: we are so very rural and get hardly no traffic....maybe 5 cars a day at most. Sure would be fun to have a little shop and always have a pot of tea and cookies out....socializing and shopping at a very slow and friendly pace...just like the old days.
Well, I had better get to work....tons yet to do today. I embroidered my patch this morning....
backed it with heavy interfacing and then felt and then trimmed with buttons and old lace. The embroidery was a bugger....teeny, tiny little red stitches on that old henny! Glad it is done.

Bev..thanks for posting the patch...I wondered how hard it would be to embroider that small. Love the buttons and lace! Is the patch big or is your jacket small?

| oh that looks good, I have not gotten my patch in the mail yet, and i cannot decide on a jacket either, I think if I do go with the jeans jacket, it will need to be a yummy flannel lined one as I get cold too easily in regular jean jackets..I am not much of a jean jacket girl, but we will see what I come up with. I am looking for a jacket pattern that I like, but have not yet found one. |

oh and with your animals..i totally understand farm pets!!! Good for you Bev.
I have a friend who has a similar log cabin, he set it up as a vintage book library, and now he has this huge vintage book collection. There is another building on his property that he set up as a quaint little general store, he got all the stuff, and it is amazing. Just for his own personal smiles you know, and the library you have to hike or ride horses to and there is hitching posts out front. |

Bev, what about a seasonal.."day at the farm" event..not to where you have to keep the store open all of the time..but have planned events at certain times of the year. Maybe open up a "mini petting zoo " area for kids. Have someone on the farm take kids on hay rides at scheduled times. And have the country store open at certain hours. But perhaps an all day event for families. Just an idea.

OMG!!! That bag is AWESOME!!! I keep thinking , "Bev has surely found her niche doing....blah blah blah" and then you start cranking out something else that's entirely fabulous! That would be like $100-150 maybe $200+ in some mountain boutique shoppe.

OK that's it! That is the cutest bag ever!!! I'm wanting TIME to copy everything Bev does!!! I just love wool felt and I just can't get the time to work on it right now. My house is on a House Tour on Friday and I have to get it cleaned up!(Don't be impressed- it's all about encouraging each other to enjoy our homes not IMPRESS everyone with how BIG or FANCY they are) Very humbling to open up your place to others for "viewing"- at least I know most of the women on tour!~ Keep inspiring us Bev! Blessings Autumn

Well, it is snowing here. Just cut out 4 more reversible aprons...I think today might be a cutting day.
We are having a Christmas party Sunday afternoon....so I have to decide what food to make for that. Will do the cooking Friday and Saturday.
