Hey Jess...don't push the being 50 thing.....cause when you are 50 we will be close to 70!! ACKKKKKK!! And hopefully we will all still be here on the farm!! But it does seem that once the kiddies are grown life changes enormously. All that time for "me" that you never have when they are little suddenly surfaces....right Bonne? right Sheryl???

Hey Jess...road trip with your little sewing machine at noon today....I am driving west to take it on its first leg.....finally!!! Woooooo HOOOOOOO!!!!! I will take pictures of the exchange for ya!!!

Sheryl, I agree....life at 50 is great....by the way...I love the quilt top!

Hey Nay, you have been one industrious gal lately!!! what a great granddaughter you are!!! A quilt for the grands....they are so lucky!

Sharon....so glad that some things are finally working out!!! You have really been through a rough time these past few weeks! Been thinking of ya!!

I will be turning 58 next month...but I think I act more like 15 LOL
or maybe 20... (tho my body tells me my age...arthritis, etc)
I have to say that there is a wisdom that comes with age. Mine is mostly in the area of letting go of resentments, forgiveness and trying to fucus on the positve. Even the attitude towards our past can affect our serenity today.
I still haven't really cried or felt too sad about my daddy dying. I feel like I really lost hime when his memory was going. We didn't get to see each other but every few years because he was living with my youngest sister and it is across the country. When he had trouble remembering who I was is when I really grieved. He became more and more like a little child over the years. I am glad to know he is somewhere wonderful now and not sick. Also his family has all the good memories.

Well- the thing about being 30 is that you have to have all that busy-ness and instability to even appreciate the calm of being 50!

I am still doing alot of the busy things(cause I still have a 14 yr old at home) but I sure do snatch up those quiet moments when I can.
I just told Bev yesterday that I am getting a bit tired of school- been home-educating my kids for 25 years! I have very little interest in Algebra now- but still have to tackle it everyday!
The good part is that I dont have to learn as much now- I've been teaching it for soooo long!

Blessings,

I missed you gals when I was gone even if it was just a few day.
:-)
I hemmed my Danny boy's new school uniform pants this morning while he stood in his sock and shirt waiting.
This counts as sewing doesn't it? LOL It was good to get my machine out.
I also really like the prairie dress pattern. I'd like to make some of them. I think they'd be a nice fit and comfortable. I also like the strappy jumper. There are so many types a shirts that could be worn with it.

Also I am thinking about moving to Arkansas and wondering if there are farmgirls there. I also asked on the Across the Fence topic.

I saw my son and new dauther in law while I was in California for the funeral. They are planning to move there and want me to move also to be near them. I'd love to be near family again, and also have them for Danny boy to get to grow up with.

I remember what was crappy about my 30's now~it was an economic downturn time and hubby and I lost our jobs because of company liquidation; people were losing homes due to foreclosures since they'd lost their jobs; had to work 7 nights a weeks with no breaks as a newpaper distributor & it must have been the coldest winters on record.......plus I had to walk uphill both ways........ROFL WAhhhhh!!! hahahaha I think everyone has at least a 10 yr block in their lives of constant struggle, or at least they should have....builds character, you know?

Wait for your son to move and get settled, Linda, then hightail it to Arkansas. That's what I'd do anyway. I couldn't stand not to be near my son. And I know what you mean by feeling you lost a person when their memory went. I feel the same about my mother who lives in MN now, but has been suffering dementia for the last 7 yrs. It's like they've passed into another realm.

As for sewing~I made the cutest knit top yesterday. New Look #6729. See Blog.

Easy pattern! For knits only. I serged most of it and handstitched the hems because of the stretchiness of the sweater knit I used.

Hey Bev,
i thought that I was going to have all this down time, which I did but for a very short time because just as the saying goes(and my daughter stitched this for me a couple years back)
"Just when a mother thinks her work is done, she becomes a grandmother"
Maybe when the grands are older but then there will be more babies by then I hope. Oh well, just have to enjoy them while I can and take the me time when I get it.
I sure do like the cozy time by the woodstove or fireplace. Whichever spot is not already taken.

Linda, being by family is nice and helpful at times too.

Okay, I am sewing on those quilt blocks for my quilt group tomorrow and believe it or not am almost done with them. The great thing, I acutally got to sew....OHHHHHH HHHHaaaappppyyyy Daaannnccceeee.
A woman can feel deprived it she can't run her hands through fabric often enough.

I love being 51, don't like the physically chalenges, but knowing more about myself, not giving a hoot what others think, freedom to finally get to do a few things I wanted to. Quilting was one of them.

Bonnie, sure they are on sale now, cause all the spring stuff is coming in. We have a zero clearance fire place that works, but a woodstove is more effeicient. I have an old wood cookstove we are hoping to get put in this summer, might be one more though.
Then we can cook and stay warm.
Ok, back to sewing, need to finish those.....lol

Jess, here is your little machine safely in E's hands...

And here is my big green monster.....now I am wondering..."what was I thinking?" Although E. assures me it will sew as fast as a race car. The presser foot is still close to the feed plate, though, and I don't think my felted wool is gonna fit.....*%*&$%&^@()$)@%(*^!!!!!
