Heather Neeper (#4701, nndairy) has received a certificate of achievement in Each Other for earning a Beginner Lend a Hand to Families badge!

"Once a week I visit my neighbor, who is suffering from dementia. I clean the house, water the plants, etc. and visit with her and her husband.

It's nice to lend and hand, but it's sad to see the toll this disease takes on the affected person and their family."

Tina VanDaam (#8437, TinaTina) has received a certificate of achievement in Stitching & Crafting for earning a Beginner Weaving badge!

"For this merit badge I read and watched videos about woven and knit fabric and how they are made. I also made 3 different cardboard looms and made 5 handmade gifts. I experimented with different looms and yarns.

This turned out fun. It is very time-consuming but rewarding when you see the outcome. I made a coaster a couple book marks and just a square piece as well as weaving on a stick."

Rea Nakanishi (#8284, Lacey) has received a certificate of achievement in Each Other for earning an Intermediate Plant It Forward badge!

"I planted a garden at our local community garden. There are 60 garden spaces and a wonderful community organizer. I had planted radishes, carrots and zucchini. In the garden we have a community table where we can leave extra produce; some goes to the homeless and the organizer sends the rest to local food organizations.

I have worked the local food bank for two years through a local service club.

One of the jobs I did was to measure out 2 lbs of rice and 4 lbs of potatoes. Other jobs were packing canned food into boxes not to exceed 30 pound. This was the only food bank to serve the entire community.

I have been a part of many service group and community services. This food bank is an important part of life in this community."

Rea Nakanishi (#8284, Lacey) has received a certificate of achievement in Each Other for earning an Intermediate Lost Art of Letter Writing badge!

"I read a interesting book called Letters to Heaven. It was a story of grief and healing. Can a letter to God fix a broken heart? Well, in this book Ivy writes a letter and mails the letter in a mailbox in the forest. Then she receives a letter back and it helps her heal. Sometimes writing a letter to someone you have lost can help mend a broken heart. I have had a few friends that have lost loved ones and I always remember to write a note letting them know I am thinking about them.

This was a book I found in the local book store and I am glad I did."

Rea Nakanishi (#8284, Lacey) has received a certificate of achievement in Outpost for earning an Expert Disconnect to Reconnect badge!

"What a peaceful few days! In November I took 2 nights and 3 day to myself.

I went back to place where I had lived and just enjoyed the rural quietness of the town. I will be doing this again in two weeks. It is nice to have a quiet time.

It went wonderful. I will be doing this in two weeks and I think it will be more often in the future."

Rea Nakanishi (#8284, Lacey) has received a certificate of achievement in Each Other for earning an Expert Farmgirl Jubilee badge!

"In April 2023 I hosted a state spring jubilee. It was held at the CH Ranch. We had party favors, games, and crafts. For one of our crafts we made Shilly-Shally's. It turned out to be a fun day with new friendships.

It is always fun to get together with like-minded ladies."

"I made a doll trunk that opens into a dressing room. It will be a gift for my grand niece.

It took soooo long, but it is really cute! The pics don't even do it justice."

Debbie Klann (#770, debbieklann) has received a certificate of achievement in Stitching & Crafting for earning a Beginner Tatting badge!

"I have wanted to learn how to tat for a long time but it's always been on the back burner. I decided that I would learn how this past winter.

I can't tell you how many failed attempts went into the trash can!!! I finally found success using a tatting needle instead of a shuttle and Mary Jane's tatting tutorial in her Stitching book. This was my first successful attempt at making a chain of rings and chains. I used it for a trim on an apron!"

Debbie Klann (#770, debbieklann) has received a certificate of achievement in Stitching & Crafting for earning an Intermediate Tatting badge!

"I experimented with different sizes of crochet thread and also tried a variegated machine quilting thread along with 4 different sized needles.

I liked using all of the different sizes of threads. The quilting thread was kind of hard to see!

I started out tatting onto an old hankie that I had with the quilting thread so that it would create a delicate edging but decided to go up a needle and thread size and put a pink edging on this pink hankie instead."

I also re-read Creative Lettering and Beyond."

Bea Campbell (#2575, Quiltingbea) has received a certificate of achievement in Stitching & Crafting for earning a Beginner Pottery/Ceramics badge!

"For my Pottery/Ceramics badge I checked out and read the book Ceramics: A Beginner's Guide to Tools and Techniques from MJF library. I also found a pottery shop near me and signed up for a beginner's class.

I took the class. And had so much fun working with the clay and using the potter's wheel. Which is not easy...my piece came out a little lopsided. I'm hoping with a little more practice I can create a piece that I will be proud of."

Patty Krug (#8551, patty) has received a certificate of achievement in Stitching & Crafting for earning a Beginner Quilling badge!

"Quilling is the art of rolling, shaping, and gluing strips of paper to create a decorative design. I ordered a kit and did basic techniques in it. I created a design on a picture frame for my oldest granddaughter. It consisted of 2 hearts, teardrop shape and 2 marquises by pinching both ends. I added little beads that came with the kit to make it pop even more.

It took me about 30 min. to complete it. I think it turned out cute and my granddaughter loved it. I put a picture of her and her boyfriend in it. Quilling is definitely more relaxing than Origami. That's just me though."

Patty Krug (#8551, patty) has received a certificate of achievement in Stitching & Crafting for earning an Intermediate Quilling badge!

"I did 2 projects for my grandchildren. They both took me 3 hrs. to complete. I did an underwater scene for my grandson. I made 3 fish of different colors and made the fins a different color to contrast them. My granddaughter got a little scene with a butterfly, flower, and a heart.

Both projects turned out well. Fish and butterfly I had to glue 2 strips together. The butterfly antennas were a bit challenging, but I got it to turn out ok. I also put small coils on with the fish to make it look like bubbles. I also added the small beads to each to make it pop a little bit more. It was fun to do."

Patty Krug (#8551, patty) has received a certificate of achievement in Stitching & Crafting for earning a Beginner Origami badge!

"Ancient and beautiful paper folding. I practiced, but I failed at the crane. The plane was like the paper airplanes we did as a kid and took me about 10 min. The boat took me several attempts and about an hour. Got me some new paper and tried again and the second attempt went better and looked better. It took about 20 min.

It wasn't very relaxing because I was getting frustrated but kept trying. It takes patience that's for sure."

Patty Krug (#8551, patty) has received a certificate of achievement in Stitching & Crafting for earning an Intermediate Origami badge!

"Got some patterns from books I got.

Animals: Sly Fox, about 15minutes; Patient Dog, about 25 minutes; and furry cat, about 25 min.

Shapes: Ninja star, about 25 minutes; Traditional Origami box, I had to do 2 attempts but got it, about 45 minutes; Origami heart, about 15 minutes.

Flowers: Tulip, not good instructions, about 30 minutes; Rose, about 20 minutes and it doesn't look like a rose; Cherry blossom, about 15 minutes.

Like I said before it was not very relaxing. The folds I had to really work at, and the paper defiantly had to be square. That is something I learned really fast. All in all, I worked through it and finished. Good experience. I'm glad I did the badge because I didn't think it was going to be that hard and I learned it was for me."

Patty Krug (#8551, patty) has received a certificate of achievement in Outpost for earning a Beginner Wild Game badge!

"There are lots of different wild game out there that most people heard of, such like deer, bear, rabbits, squirrels, pheasants, turkeys. You could go to Africa and hunt really big game there. Safe handling of the meat is just like anything else. Laws of hunting you just want to make sure you know them in the state you are hunting them.

I'm not really a hunter but we have venison every year. That's about the only thing my husband and daughter hunt. We did go to friends, and I did try bear meat. I was told after I ate it and I didn't even know I was eating it. Tasted good to me. I suppose it's just how you cook it if you can tell a difference or not."

Patty Krug (#8551, patty) has received a certificate of achievement in Garden Gate for earning a Beginner What's Your Beef? badge!

"Researched the difference between grass fed and corporately raised. Grass fed can cost more but it's health, ethical, and eco-friendly benefits are a good choice.

Definitely want grass fed beef on my table-especially when you know the people who raise the cattle, and we do."

Patty Krug (#8551, patty) has received a certificate of achievement in Garden Gate for earning an Intermediate What's Your Beef? badge!

"Had to read the "BEEF" book. It was a hard read but I punched through it. Some of the old-fashioned recipes were surprising, but I guess they did what they had to do. I was surprised at how much information was in the book about beef.

Like said before, definitely want beef raised by someone you know. The chemicals they use these days are really scary."

Heather Neeper (#4701, nndairy) has received a certificate of achievement in Each Other for earning an Intermediate Lend a Hand to Families badge!

"I helped my friend clean and rearrange some things in her house before she had her hip replacement surgery. After the surgery I helped to organize meals for a week. I made a lasagna and meatloaf for the freezer and I took over a bakeover and visited for a bit.

It was great to lend a hand! My friend and her husband greatly appreciated some home cooking without having to do the cooking. She is doing well in her recovery."

"I've been using different calligraphy pens, holders and nibs, and ink to write my pen pal letter. I've even been experimenting with them in my cards.

Sometimes it turns out better than others. It's a work in progress, but it sure is fun. And I think that the recipients are enjoying seeing my improvements as much as I do!"

Heather Neeper (#4701, nndairy) has received a certificate of achievement in Farm Kitchen for earning a Beginner BakeOver MakeOver badge!

"I looked through the recipes for bakeovers and decided to make the steak and potato one first. In order to save a little time I chose to make the bakeover easy rather than the traditional bake over crust on top.

It turned out delicious. My family loved it. I'll be making this one again!"

"Since I belong to a virtual henhouse, I made 2 new bakeovers and invited friends over to try them. I posted the recipes on the forum under merit badge chit chat if anyone is interested in trying them.

They turned out delicious! My friends loved them and it gave me an opportunity to tell them all about MaryJane's farm."

Heather Neeper (#4701, nndairy) has received a certificate of achievement in Farm Kitchen for earning a Beginner ChillOver ComeOver badge!

"I obtained some of MaryJane's chill over powder and browsed recipes. I have to admit I was a little skeptical of sea vegetables being tasteless, so for the first attempt I stuck with a simple basic recipe. I simply used 2 cups of orange juice and followed the directions for a soft-set chillover and hoped for the best!

It was surprisingly good! I now feel comfortable trying recipes with more ingredients without the fear of wasting them due to a bad taste."

"As a kid I loved jello with fruit in it, so for this badge I used some fruit I had left over to make a new chillover. I posted the recipe on the forum under merit badge chit chat.

It turned out great! I wish I had some marshmallows on hand to put on top, like I enjoyed as a kid. I'm looking forward to trying more recipes, especially a molded one."

Heather Neeper (#4701, nndairy) has received a certificate of achievement in Each Other for earning an Intermediate Her-story badge!

"I read the book "Sally Ride, America's First Woman in Space" by Lynn Sherr. I posted some things I learned on the forum under merit badge Chit Chat.

It was interesting to learn about Sally's role becoming the first American woman in space, but I didn't enjoy the authors way of writing the story. I feel that the author was more focused on women's rights and gay rights than on telling Sally's story."
