"I made a set of napkins with cross stitched flowers. I learned how to back the stitching to protect it. I will be making towels and an apron to match them.

"I learned about fabrics made for cross stitching and about fabrics made to wash or tear away to put patterns on clothing and household items not made for cross stitch. I made a set of cross-stitched towels for my coffee loving grandson.

"I've got a completely working kitchen now! No more excuses to eat out. I've also started curating what my kitchen would look like if I were scaling back or helping my young cultivator outfit her first place.
I wish I could have rooted out more equipment to donate, but we are using almost everything frequently and the few dusty tools "belong" to my better half and he would notice if I liberated them!
I found the key to feeling complete was to be willing to "declare a major" for my cooking style. Most of things I kept adding to my wishlist were for cooking specialties that weren't a priority for me (i.e. baking and grilling).

"It has taken me just about 3 years to finish this afghan. I started it when our Nephew and his wife got pregnant. She had a little boy almost 3 years ago and already has another little boy almost 5 months old. So no girl! I stopped for a bit then decided to finish it. My other Niece is getting married in October, so maybe she will have a little girl. My new stitch is the Marshmallow Stitch, which I loved! I crocheted for over five hours with family and friends over the course of making the afghan.
I finished it this past week. All I need to do now is wait for one of my nieces to have a girl. It was an easy stitch as it was easy to remember. I took it on my vacation last May, but really did not work on it much. I am happy it is now finished."

"I made my own chocolate peanut butter icing and decorated my homemade chocolate cake for my uncle's birthday.
It turned out really good! The icing was a little thick, but adding water made it easier to spread. I tried my hand at designing flowers, starbursts, and lines on the cake. I put banana slices on the flowers for the centers."

"We checked out the whole section of the library on glass gardens. All the books agreed that you should think about the water and sun requirements of the plants (i.e. planting a cactus or succulent with a hyacinth would be silly because they have such different care needs). Terrariums that you plan to keep indoors should have plants that have relatively low sun requirements, because even a pretty sunny window is shady compared to being outdoors.
Our favorite resource was Terrarium: 33 Glass Gardens to Make Your Own, because it had close-up photos and care details about common terrarium plants and its "recipes" for terrariums tried to pair plants which were native to the same part of the world. A mini geography lesson under glass!

"We visited Dragonfly Shops and Gardens for a mom-daughter/young cultivator date and built 2 terrariums to gift to Daddy and Granny.
It was so fun to choose from the dozens of different media, plants, and mini figurines available at Dragonfly. I still have a bunch of terrarium concepts on my bucket list, so we will probably be back!"

"I found two letter writing books on my online library app LIBBY : "Syme's Letter Writer" by Rachel Syme and a fantastic story of back and forth letters and grace in response: "I will always write back" by Martin Ganda.
Both were incredibly encouraging in making each letter an open-ended conversation to encourage my receiver to send me a letter back. I started on Jan. 2026 with my farm girl sisters who live out of state. We have 5 members that live afar. Each month I put happy mail together including a letter of life going ons and sentiments, a packet of tea to enjoy while they spend time with my hello letter, and a seed packet so my sister will have something to look forward to blooming. I also set up a calendar to write a letter to each of my sisters on their birthdays. I mailed the cards about a week before the birthday and tried to time the arrival on their special day. The letters included wishes for a beautiful new year.
I looked forward to each letter and tried to make notes for my forgetful mind on individual personal experiences so I could make each letter for each girl personal. I have learned and shared many life events and have grown closer to my sisterhood. This was a wonderful bonding experience for me. I plan on keeping this tradition for years to come. Life is important to acknowledge."

"My Birthday is in the month of March. This year felt significant in my life. I've lost both of my absentee parents and my children reaching milestone ages. I felt the need to look within myself, evaluate and redefine who I am and what I enjoy. I found a notebook and looked up some examples of junk journals. Using scrapes of paper and fun stickers, I created a book with 31 days. I googled writing prompts of gratitude to keep me honest in answering and responding to situations and questions I would naturally avoid. Every single day, I sat with my morning coffee and noted a few lines before I started my day. I read the next days prompt to give me something to leisurely think of during the day for the next day. I also found a second-hand copy of The Book of Awesome on eBay.
I loved the inner journey. I answered questions and prompts I know I will enjoy reflecting on for years to come. I would like to keep this as a tradition for future years. It's pretty! It wasn't stressful in small bits. And I learned a few things about myself and habits."

"I earned this merit badge by making trellises out of string, sticks, and even used a broomstick handle along with a teepee out of string.
This turned out good and was made very inexpensively. I did some when I lived in California and when I moved to Washington, but I neglected to get pictures in California."

"I have a very messy, disorganized spice cupboard! Yes, it's time to clean it out and label the jars.
I took out 5 of my least used herbs to reintroduce to my rotation. I feel researching the health benefits will encourage me to use them on a regular basis. I was amazed to see sage helps with hot flashes! Rosemary helps digestion and thyme eases congestion! All 3 things I'm struggling with. Cumin assists with blood sugar (I'm a T2 diabetic) and spearmint helps balance hormones. How very interesting. I'm excited to see how many dishes I can boost with extra nutrition.
I've found these herb ingredients can pretty much be added to any dish! They're becoming my "secret" ingredient lol."

"With so many excellent options for my sunny front window, I think we will get the most benefit from spearmint in my kitchen window. With winter approaching, some tea sounds soothing on the throat. The seed pack said 2–6 weeks, which's perfect timing for fall. I set up a self-watering soil pot. I tried using the leaves fresh and found the tea is stronger if I hung and dried the stems and leaves strained with boiling water.
The rosemary has been a longer journey. I started with a library book that suggested rooting in water again in the front window. The rooting compound encouraged 2-3 inch roots in 6 weeks. I transplanted the stems in the backyard, part sunny, part shade in June. It's August and the plants are thriving.
I made a mayonnaise based sauce with both the mint and rosemary to dip artichokes in! My new secret ingredient. The family loves the combination."

"I lived in this city for over two decades and always drove by the local museum. They were only open for a few hours on Saturdays, so I could never go. Raising my child, working full-time, getting my license, and taking care of all the errands and running my home on the weekends took all my time. But now that my child has moved out, I made time to go visit the local museum.
What a great surprise. I thought the place was very small. I did not realize that it had two levels and it extended to the back of the lot. I learned so much about the city I live in. The volunteers explained a lot of the things I had noticed, but never asked anyone about. They explained about the Bing cherry which decorates the town, especially at year-end; the stool that JFK sat on while visiting the region, and the founding families. I saw a video of the old library that was there when I first moved here. Since then, they demolished the old one and built a new one. They also had pictures of the library during the 80s. What a treat. Great idea. I got a lot from getting this badge."
