At the moment we are living with only the very basics unpacked.

Boy does that bring back memories. We have many times found ourselves in limbo. Once for 11 months. Everything in storage... It is just one of those things you just get through, Knowing that it is only temporary helps. Just keep things light hearted. Obvious don't know all the specifics, but there is always the "on holiday" mentality.
Hang in there! Julia

I lived like this while in the military. Really made me focus on what was important to me and the rest I let go. I always kept the basics around me like pictures, favorite bedding items and pj's, maybe a favorite cup to drink te/coffee out of, etc. Made me really examine all those things I had in storage for someday and when I had the room. Make our space no matter where it is yours. And try not to take it so hard- breathe and relax. Good luck!!!

Helen -- I was wondering about you today. Hadn't seen you writing for a while and was concerned. I have been all worked up about our property being developed, worrying about when I was going to have to move, wondering if I should plan my garden for next year, etc. My very wise friend said that I should just live where I am now, do what I want, and not worry about the rest. She said "bloom where you are planted." It was the best advice I've had so far! So, dear friend from NZ, just bloom where you are right now!

I'm still hot...it just comes in flashes.

In my experiance, they are good movers for muscle and strength, not so good for emotions, comfort,or anything else that women feel. As long as they have a place to sleep, eat, watch tv and they like their job, they are good to go. Sometimes I almost envy them...

Hey mate, Make sure one of the boxes you unpack is full of some good wine...and drink it. Will make the shift and the male shifter a little better! Hang in there! Jen

Men tend to look over the present to see the final outcome. They don't get the fact that our nesting instinct is out of wack. Ever see the movie 'The Quiet Man' with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara? She didn't get her dawlry(sp) as her brother wouldn't give it to her since he didn't like John Wayne. When they are in their home after the wedding John makes a comment about how unimportant the dawlry (sp,again) is to him. She gets anger and says something to the effect,in her irish brouge, 'I'll cook and I'll clean but until I have my things about me, you'll have none of me". There's and Idea.

We moved into our new home a couple of months ago now and just yesterday the neighbor man stopped by to see if we had any scrap metal we'd like him to take away (he knows what a mess we have and I was thrilled to give it to him just to be rid of it). He commented, in a friendly, jovial way that it looks like we just moved in. I know he didn't mean to be hurtful, but it was disheartening. The good thing about it was that when I told my husband he got mad and motivated and now our yard doesn't look so... trashy. All the random clutter that needs to be put in a dumpster is now hidden behind the shed until we can rent a dumpster (again).

I have some really bad days. I'm tired of living among towers of boxes and I can get pretty crabby with my dear, sweet husband. I decided the other day after looking at flylady.com that I am being too perfect in trying to get things put away and I've started just getting it put away no matter what. I can go back and organize cabinets later. I decided that if I do at least a box a day it will get done eventually and I can have a feeling of accomplishment each day. It's hard enough to get a "new" house clean AND keep up with the dirt we are adding without the unpacking process getting in the way. Just make a couple of areas livable and chip away at the rest a little at a time. I also find that taking a day here and there to work outside on our mess of a "farm" renews my spirit and reminds me why I am going through this hassle in the first place. Yesterday I mowed and my daughter and I picked up walnuts, today I can look out the window at the beautiful green parts we have cleared while I work at my household duties.

Hey Farm Girls!!!

Helen

I am so sorry that you are having to go through all of this. When I was in my twenties, I moved 29 times all over the U.S. and England.

Do you have a new temporary address for mail art? I wanted to send you a little surprise.

Connie
