Howdy! (and that was said with a very mixed up British/Argentine/Brasilian/French accent! )
I'm so thrilled to have found you! I've been in Texas, about 45 minutes northwest of Houston, for almost 5 years. I purchased 5 acres and built a home on it (and if I were to do it again, I'd remove some of the conveniences I had them put in!). We've got chickens and I'm starting an orchard and raised beds with herbs. This summer we crossfenced two fields and my neighbors use it for pasture, and I get free raw milk!
I grew up in the city in Brasil and Argentina, but had access to family and friends' farms. My father owned some land (think dense tropical forest) and he and I surveyed it with machetes and eventually planted some banana trees. My father's family owned land in Argentina and were what some might call "Cattle Barons"! One uncle still farms and raises cattle in Argentina and Uruguay, and has just invested in a grain elevator (did I mention he's the 'rich uncle' of the family! )
I have lots to learn, and some wisdom to share! I admire many of you and am excited to be a Farmgirl!

Welcome, Christine.
Your description of yourself sounds quite impressive!
I'm in TX, also, about 4 driving hours West of you, with a far less exciting story and "only" 2acres. We do some small scale homesteading with a long-term-dream-goal of self-sufficiency.
I am originally from Europe and drive to Houston occasionally to go to IKEA, if I feel I need a dosage of "European Interior Decorating".
You will certainly enjoy this site! I'm a mostly silent participant, but learn something every day, just through reading the contributions!
