Uh oh, last time I tried to ride a wave I popped my knee out of joint:) Cheryl - I have what I think are bleeding hearts in a bed in front of my house - one of the things that came with the house. Our house was a rental for years so not well taken care of but there are some things in the garden that showed that someone cared about it at one time. I have a rare Saturday at home, I think I will finalize my seed lists and make some lists of what stuff I need for gardening. Happy day Amy Grace

Ack - I just went through my catalogs to decide on seeds - I have 11 tomatoes that I really, really need. 11!! Of course I need one for drying, one type of cherry tomato for eating like candy, a slicer, salsa tomatoes etc. etc. So I can definitely say I will have some tomato seeds to offer!! And I have an idea for potatoes - I think we all talked about potatoes at one point and decided that trading would be cost prohibitive when you add in postage. I was wondering if the 4 of you (Annika, Teresa Sue, Diana, Rene) in this area would want to coordinate potato buying and meet to trade potatoes? It might be a little late for this year, but just a thought. There are several varieties of potatoes I would like to try but I certainly don't need to plant the minimum order's worth of all of them, after all I have to have room for my 11 varieties of tomatoes:D - anybody interested in doing that? If it does sound good we should probably do it quick since potatoes go in early - let me know Amy Grace

Ack! is the word. Soooooooooooooo hard to make the decision of what to grow and what to wait on for next year. This gardening season seems to be taking forever to get here. Next year - that might as well be a million years away. Remember those relation-type tests they gave us in school? Here's one: gardening season is to mavens what _______________ is to children.

Karen - I would have to say Christmas Morning!! And last year, when it kept snowing, and snowing - we had significant snow on April 5th and even snow as late as June 10th - it was like Christmas never came. No wonder I was down in the dumps last year - always winter never Christmas, it was like living in Narnia under the White Witch:) Amy Grace

Karen I will try to be back here in time to join in chat Monday..We have another engagement late monday afternoon Oregon time..I am going to try to grow the bleeding hearts, they are such a pretty small heart hshaped flower. Also I want some forcythia not sure I spelled that correctly..the yellow pretty cascading plant. You can force them around Easter time. I also plan to get a pussy willow tree...wisteria & lilac. WHo knows they just might grow here.. I have been told deer wont touch anything purple...so perhaps it will work. So much planting, planning, landscaping and now to get Dh to listen and do what I want him to do.. ha! He is pretty open to my ideas. I am still looking for a clawfooted bath tub to put out on our Planned patio,,, could take a few years to get that project...but I have lots of time...I hope Lazy day today.. watched cooking challenge show. I love cooking shows, and we have a dinner & play date tonight. Reservation s at 6pm . Play starts at 8 two doors down from restaraunt. Everyone enjoy your weekend....doing whatever you plan..

Cheryl- The deer here eat my chive flowers and they are purple. Then again the first year I planted a garden without a fence they ate everything including my cayene peppers!
Karen I agree with Amy. It would be like Christmas morning!! Last year was horrible waiting for summer to come. Hopefully this year will be better.
Amy- What tomatos have you decided on? I never grow less than 10 varieties in my garden, and when asked I always reply "yes, I do need them all".

Oh good Lillian - I'm glad someone else needs as many tomatoes as me. From the SSE I have decided on: Wisconsin 55 for canning Martino's Roma and Powers Heirloom(yellow) for paste Cherry Roma for cherry Hillbilly Potato leaf for slicing and because I like the name:) Jaune Flamme for drying and because I want one French tomato Cream Sausage, Green Sausage and Federle for salsa Siberian as an experiment to grow without a cover - it gets down to the 40's here almost every night in the summer so we are doing hoop houses for the tomatoes and peppers Gourmet Yellow Stuffer because it looked cool and then from Baker Creek, Marmande - looks like a good one too. We may try to sell starts too since we will have so many Cheryl - have fun at the play, I love live performances. I have been immersing myself in reading about the food of France getting ready for our trip, very inspiring for the garden too Amy Grace

Amy Grace-Real quick here, I thought I would give you my list of tomatos in the garden this year.
Thessalonkik- this was my free seed packet from BC, so I'm gonna give it a try. (BC) Plum Lemon- yellow, lemon shaped (BC) Flame Hillbilly- verigated (BC) Bonny Best- Red (BC) Break O" Day- Red (BC) Rutgers- I will sell alot of these, they are always in demand (SSE) Earliana- This is an awsome producer! I kept one in my greenhouse and it produced until Dec. (SSE) Amish Paste- My patse tomato of choice. (SSE) Crnkovic Yougoslavian- Red, most of these topped 1 lb last summer. (SSE) Riesentraube- Cherry tomato (SSE) Austin's Red Pear- this was a freebie from SSE, so I will give it a try too. (SOC) Amana Orange- These all weighed well over 1 lb last year and I used them to make some orange spaghetti sauce for Halloween.
I will also have to pick up some seeds for Sun Gold Cherry tomatos because I sell my tomato and pepper starts. I never have enough of the sun gold to sell to people. Personally I Liked my Riesentraube better.

Good Morning all.. Karen, Thanks for the reminder, HEY~ "bug Away" sometimes I get so caught up in what I am doing that I forget what time it is... Karen, get this, I know you always here me quote the saying, "When the student is ready the teacher will come", so I hosted our monthly farmgirl chapter meeting. And we had a new farmgirl come.. She is a RAW food instructor. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? How blessed is that? So, she is hosting classes for us on a monthly bases. She use to work for a BIG AG company and experienced some health issues, from there she went to college to earn a degree in Holistic Nutrition. She is also a former educator.. anyway, she is amazing and I couldnt be more thrilled.
For those who havent yet read Gardening with Heirloms seeds by Lynn Coulter.... I hope that you will still jump into the conversation Monday night, and get the book when you can. I LOVE this book, it is a great resource manual giving awesome history of your favorite plants. I was surprised by my own "Un-awareness" concerning plants and them having history. Sure I Knew that my grandpa planted this and that and so I did too, and that they just "were". But I loved finding little pearls aboout some of my favorite.. we have discussed the outhouse hollyhocks... being planted to beautiful the old outhouses.. I love that "ladies" when asking where the outhouse was, would actually ask, "where are your hollyhocks".... so much more dignified then "where is the crapper" ( which is what my military boys nw say.. ugh) LOL....and then there is the story of Pricilla the slave sold to a Cherokee Cheif.. Who knew? I loved learning about Papa Ott and his Morning glory.....and I adore the new plant I found "Pink Clary Sage".
This is a RICH experience and you wont want to miss it. Thanks Lynn... what an amazing "ride".

Hi, In regards to the chat question and answer session..I felt that it would be fair/best to handle it this way.. Allow everyone a 3 question limit. Have your questions prepared ahead of time in a concise/short manner. We will go down the list as to how each person appears in the chat room log. Type your questions to Lynn as your name is called..then we allow her to answer each person's 3 questions, then on to the next person...and so on. This will ensure that everyone gets a chance...hopefully. And it is fair and we cover ground. Please no extra chatting until after the question/answer session. We want to cover as much ground/learn what we can while we have the opportunity presented to us. I hope that everyone is cool with this method..it was the best one I could come up with to keep things from being confusing, and allow us to cover plenty of ground. See you tomorrow evening!

Good late afternoon mavens, I had a fabulous breakfast as I showed on my blog. Then Dh & I and Buster Drove to "Lower Klamath Lake" to the bird refuge there. Buster loved running & playing..We saw some flocks of beautiful Tundra swans, a few bald eagles, Canada Geese, 3 Red Tail Hawks, It snowed lightly, and it was cold, but a lovely Sunday adventure... fixing BBQ Chicken Cesear salads for dinner later and catching up on the forum posts. Bought a new automatic light for the "girls studio" to keep them warm.. we are expecting a bit colder nights. Hope you all enjoyed your Sunday as much as I did.

Sounds like a nice day Cheryl. I worked, which is unusual for a Sunday, usually my day off. It was kind of nice though, I have been having a hard time kicking myself in the butt to get stuff done at home so at least I got stuff done at work. Stay warm everyone Amy Grace

Good Monday morning, mavens!
To those who checked out the analogy, yes, Christmas morning is what I was thinking. That "will it ever get here" feeling from my childhood is coming back when I think of getting our garden going. And since we're expecting 6-8" of snow and sleet by tomorrow, it looks like that feeling will be around for awhile.
Cheryl, dinner and a play sounds divine. Glad you had a wonderful time.
Amy Grace and Lillian, you aren't alone in your tomato addiction. The same topic is going on in the Garden Gate forum.
Rene' - set your alarm NOW for chat time. Cheryl, please do the same as we're dying to chat with you - well, at least I am.
Tina, the rules sound good. Knowing the way my mind works, I know I'll have more questions after hearing everyone else's. Will we be able to ask more questions after everyone's had their turn? Or maybe could we just circle around the group a few times asking one question each time? Just a suggestion. Are you moderating the chat or is Teresa Sue? Or both of you? Trying to get a feel for tonight - just so excited about the whole thang.
Amy Grace (again), sorry you had to work on a Sunday. I try not to do any running on Sundays as that's my day "off." With the bad weather coming in though I did my grocery shopping yesterday. Also surprised DH with a gallon of ACS (anti-creosote spray) for the fireplace. We needed some but he just thought I was doing groceries. Happened to think of it while I was out. Also picked up some vermiculite to start our seeds when they get here. Another surprise. He said I rocked it out! Love when that happens!!!
