Hello mavens!! We had some trouble with this darn computer again this weekend. Hubby installed a new antivirus and then it wouldn't let us connect to the internet. What a pain. He finally figured it out yesterday afternoon. I didn't even have a chance to get on here because I was trying to get the kids schoolwork set for today. ARGH!!!
Amy Grace~Can I have some of these seeds? I don't need many because I will only have a small plot. I would really appreciate it. Thanks! Bright Lights Swiss Chard Correnta Spinach Lacinato Kale Kentucky Wonder Pole Beans Big Max Pumpkins
Gosh!! The boy needs my help with math. I'll be back soon. Ruth

I haven't received my Bakers Creek catalog yyyeettt. Just a little whine I had to get in there. I know what I want from SSE but was waiting for Bakers Creek before I placed my order. If I don't get it this week i think I'll just order what I want from SSE. I am getting so excited. I picked up Cold Climate Gardening and another book~Organic Gardening the No Dig Way~I think that's the title. Gosh~my brain is mush.
I can't wait to read those books and plant those seeds. Dh built one of the greenhouses from MJF magazine so I am planning on starting our seeds in there.
I hope you are all having a good Monday. Don't know if I can make the chat tonight. :( I have read through the book once but I think I need to borrow it from the library again or maybe splurge at Barnes and Noble. Ruth

Hi, Ruth! Good to hear from you. You may want to give Baker Creek a call or send an e-mail. I wasn't sure if I'd signed up for their catalog so I called them (a few weeks ago). I honestly don't remember what they said they'd do but I had my catalog in a couple of weeks. Also, if your mail delivery is anything like ours, your neighbor may have your catalog and not want to give it back. Checking with BC will probably get you one pretty quick.

AARRRRRRRRGGGHHHHH.....I can't find my Carrotts Love Tomatos book! I am sure someone stole it because I would NEVER lose it! Thats it they broke into my house and left all of my valuables and stole my book! When are we going to start reading Carrots Love Tomatos? I need time to dig through my stuff again and see if I can find it.
Morning everyone- A crisp 19 degrees here this morning, but there are no clouds. Had a nice relaxing weekend not much was going on. Back at it today. Chores a plenty to get done here.
Karen- I didn't see the tomato discussion over at garden gate. I will agree it is a tomato obsession. in fact- My name is Lillian and I have a seed addiction. Is there help for me? Never mind I don't want help.
Ruth- I saw that you asked Amy for some pumpkin seeds. I only have 3 seeds left in the package, but I will not be planting these pumpkins this year. They are "Dill's Atlantic Giant Pumpkin" these have been known to grow to something like 800 lbs. Mine only made it to about 30 lbs. last year. We had a horible growing year for pumpkins last year. I mainly grow pie pumpkins and then throw in a plant of specialty pumpkin for my niece. This year she is getting "warty" pumpkins.
I am looking forward to the chat tonight, hopefully everyone got the hint that the computer will be mine at that time!!!
Off to get those chores done so I can be ready for tonight!!

Morning/evening Mavens,
I can't take credit for Lynn Coulter's chat with us tonight. Rene' did the intro, Tina graciously offered her site, all I did was the "gopher" work.
No, I am not moderating the chat.
It's 9 degrees here, brrrrrrr, but the sun is SHINING!! Woot, Woot!

Lillian, if you were closer you could borrow mine. I broke down and bought the newest version at B&N yesterday. I figure since I've renewed the one from the library about 5 times it's worth the investment. If we were neightbors, not only could you borrow my book, if yours showed up in my mailbox, I would return it!
So, TS, is this our next book? I'm suffering some brain fog this morning. Too cool if it is since I just bought it.

Hi Mavens!! Sounds like everyone had a good weekend. We got the privilege of meeting the new son...lets just say that he has not been raised the same way we have raised our children. Needless to say this is the HUGE topic of discussion at our house!!
I am so tired of winter....I think I need some outside time on a day thats not too chilly...the shed/mini barn needs a cleaning and the storage part needs a major overhaul..so there is something to do but I would rather be in the dirt!!!
IF at all possible...at the chat tonight if you learn something can you post it here? I would love to be there but oh well!!
Got some errands to run but will stop in soon!!!
Love to all!!

brrrrr - chilly today. Ruth, yes absolutely you can have some of those seeds. I will be placing my seed orders tomorrow so when they arrive I will have extras of some of those too. Yes, in my world there are never too many tomatoes. Long about February I start to crave foods with fresh tomatoes - sandwiches, salads, - it may be genetic because my grandma was a tomato queen, and zucchini too come to think of it. Lillian, your list had a lot of the ones I was thinking about too - great minds think alike:) I will have to order Carrots love Tomatoes too..... I got two SSE catalogs for some reason, hmmm Well, just did inventory this morning now I have two days off so I went to the library and stocked up. Marcy - sounds like you are still having some bumps in the road - hope everything smooths out!! Talk to y'all soon Amy Grace

Lillian, you are SO funny! I, too, hate when others "steal" my stuff.. seems the older I get the more "they" steal.
TS~ you are so..................well.........modest! Credit where credit is due, sista... It is the gophers that make the most "impact". One of the MANY things I LOVE about this group of women, is that I can do a piece and pass it on and KNOW that it is in the BEST care possible... a million thank you's.

waahhhh! I really, really apologize..I was going to try and save tonights chat to email to those who could not attend..and when I went to add it into an email to myself so that I could then send the transcript out to you gals that could not attend....only the last 5 minutes or so of the chat session was left..where we were saying our "good nights"...but..we had a lovely chat/learning session with Lynn..thanks to everyone that attended. ----------- Dawn: in regards to your question re: organizing/advertising a seed swap..Lynn recommended contacting your local garden club, advertising through your county extension office, and through the paper, and even your state's agricultural bulletin newsletter. --------------- Seed starting references/gardening reference books recommended this evening were: "Seed to Seed" by Kent Whaley and Suzanne Ahhworth, "Gardening When It Counts: Growing Food In Hard Times" by Steve Solomon, "Starting Seeds Indoors" :Storey Country Wisdom by Ann Reilly --------------------- thanks everyone! I learned a good bit..and it was fun.

Tina, not to worry. Since Lynn gave approval to quote her, I copied the conversation into Word as we went along. I got everything [i]but[i] the last five minutes! It's a messy document right now but I'm going to work on it today. Where do you think it should go? I'm thinking maybe the henhouse and Dawn could put a sticky on it so it stays at the top of the screen......
Good morning, mavens!

Good day to you Mavens, I am sorry I've missed the chat with Lynn but the past days if not weeks have been busy, busy. As I am talking to you, we still have to exit the house before saturday and they haven't started packing yet and we do not have any idea where we are going to end up to. It seems like the African job is not going to happen and we are in the unknown totally. the only good news is that Samba is getting a new home tonight I am awaiting the call of his new parents and they will take him home tonight. This is such a turmoil but he will have a home and won't transit by the shelter. God is good that is all I can say. Seldom in my life I have had to go through such unknown matters and I feel quiet, peaceful and confident. Karen, how precious that you got the put last night chat into a word document. And Teresa Sue, I was able to meet you through your picture when I went to STL chatroom where I was all alone by myself. Dragging me out of bed has been a real challenge lately. So if we are not going to France I may not have a garden this year. And Amy Grace I do not know if I will be able to go to Paris and visit with you. How are you all doing ? I have been missing you and the buzz and the friendship. Brenda, where are you ? Lora i've emailed you through the forum about 10 days ago, did you get it ? Was fabric related. I hope you are all doing well in your corner of the world. Love, Corinne

I am so sad I missed the chat. I just can't ever get on here at that time. Hubby had just come home from school and needed the computer. AARGH!!!!
Karen~Thank you so much for saving that so you can share it with us. I know that the newsletters that you put together are awesome. It reminds me of things I have forgotten about and it's great to be able to pop over there and find all the info so quickly. Such a great job. I so appreciate it. A thousand thanks!!!
Teresa Sue~I am so glad you received the scarves and you like them. I just wanted to send a little thank you your way!! You are so sweet.
I have to take dd to the orhto now. Then a quick trip to the grocery store. It is so cold here and I wish I could stay home. We are expecting more snow.
Gotta run. Ruth

Okay, mavens, the transcript of last night's chat is in the henhouse in the book discussion thread. Dawn, if you would sticky it, that would be great. I'm heading over to the Garden Gate to let them know about it also.

Hi, Corinne! Hang in there, girlfriend. I'm so sorry the Africa thing fell through. I think I'm more sorry that you may not get to meet up with Amy Grace this spring. I'll bump up the prayers. Who knows, God may have something really special in the works. After all.........
Ruth, Robbie and I have discussions about the importance of doing mavenly things. I tell him that if we want to do market gardening, this is for our future. It's the truth!
Gotta share this with y'all. I "invited" Robbie to the chat last night so he was sitting here with me for most of it. When Lora was talking about her plant troubles, he was sitting her diagnosing it right along with Lynn. And most of the time, he was right there with her. It was so cute!
Well, I'm off to start the day. I'll be immersing myself in garden reading and catching up on swaps (yea, I know, it's an ongoing saga).
Tina, thanks again - so much - for hosting the chat last night and moderating. I think by the end we all were really getting the hang of it. Hopefully there will be more in the future.
