Hi! I'm so glad I found this forum....seems to be alot of ladies like me! My name is Lisa. I'm a 35 year old SAHM, married for 17 years. My boys are 7 and 3 years old. We live on a farm in southern Ohio outside a little town called Ripley. It sits on the Ohio River. It's very pretty here. Our house is over 160 years old and I spend ALOT of time fixing and decorating and such. I love to garden and I raise chickens and rabbits. I am also a book nut. I love to read, especially mysteries and history. On the weekends I hit the flea markets and yard sales....treasure hunting is what I like to call it. I hope to make some friends here Have a good day Lisa |

Hello Lisa, can I move in? Sounds wonderful. Welcome to the Forum...I am 47,my house is new, my kids grown, but I like everything you like except I am a sewing kind of gal. I grew up in a farmhouse built in 1863, what year was yours built? |

Our house is said to be built in 1840 but I just found some info that puts the family here in 1808. They are registered at the little Red Oak church up the street as being members in 1808. We do know that the original part of the house was the boat that they floated down the river on. So I believe they may have lived in that until 1840...that's when the big part was added. I tell you it's BIG! I have 24 windows in this old house! I spend alot of time cleaning but I do love it here. I'm originally from Cincinnati. I moved out here to the country when I married my hubby 17 years ago. I wouldn't move back to the city for nothing. Like I said, it is soooo pretty here. Our house sits just up top the Ohio River valley. You can see Kentucky when you look out the back. But I can go on and on....I've a passion for this old place! |

Thanks for all the welcomes! In the beginning the farm was an Ohio land grant of 500 acres. It now is just the house, barns, and 5 acres. That's why I keep 'little' critters. It's plenty enough room to grow as big of a vegetable garden as I like. Our neighbor is a big cattle farmer and he has 600 acres and we have the run of it so it's almost as good as owning the land. His farm is just out back so we wake up with cows every morning. It's lovely....if you like cows. When my Mom visits she complains of the cow poop smell. But I've lived on a pig farm before and the cows are sweet smellin' compared to that! lol!

Welcome, Ohioan! I'm in Cleveland, which I realize is nowhere near you, but we have the state in common. Ripley sounds beautiful! I would love to be closer to flea market country. But thrift stores will do for now! Your home sounds wonderful. I'm sure you'll feel at home here. Judes PS My husband loves the smell of cows! http://schoolstreet.typepad.com www.jac.etsy.com |
