I repurposed an old jelly jar as a shaker for baking soda, which I use to scrub out the sinks etc.
Put the lid face-up on an old piece of scrap wood (to protect your table) & drill holes using a 1/16 drill bit. Then turn the lid over and use a hammer to flatten out the holes from the backside. Voila! It's that easy.
I also stir in a couple of drops of essential oil into the baking soda, so the shaker does double duty as a pomander by scenting the cabinet I keep it in.

Great idea and what an adorable little jar! (Love the fabric in the background too) This would be so great for the babies cornstarch when I have to sprinkle it on their little bottoms. :) THanks for sharing!! hugs

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, cookies in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming. "WOOHOO, What a Ride!"

What a great way to use those little jars you so hate to throw away but can't think of a use for! Now I can think of tons of uses! Home made talcum powder, grated parmesan, dehydrated onions...

What a great way to use that cute Bonne Maman jar! :) The British version fo Country Living had a contest sponsored by Bonne Maman to see who could come up with clever uses for the jars. I'll have to see if I kept that one. They were all really good.

Karin, how funny about the contest-I save all the Bonne Maman jars for storage, I keep everything from sequins to pins to tailor's chalk in them.

That is a good idea, I have plenty of little jars with tops. I use plastic peanut butter jars to store little leftover foods in the freezer for my grandmother I never used glass ones because I was afraid she would drop it. The plastic tops you can heat up a nail and poke holes in or drill them. I think the glass ones are so much prettier. |

Sandra, Bonne Maman is the brand name of the jelly the jars came in, I've found it in most chain grocery stores. It's from France. The labels look like a handwritten paper label. It think it is fancy but it is probably just the French version of Smucker's, ha.

You got me thinking about containers and I was about to throw away my little yogurt container and thought, I could use this for something.....and sure enough I could put seedlings into it this spring. :) This is leading to other things.
