Greetings All,
Although I was introduced to MJ's Farm awhile back, I only just joined this forum. After trolling about the site and seeing some friends' names pop up (yes, really!), I felt ok to speak up. It's good to finally introduce myself.
My name is Tami and I'm a fellow traveller with you: a tree hugger, animal squeezer, seed collector/sower, book devourer, do-it-yourselfer, and annoying contrarian from an early age. I grew up in the Connecticut woods but I've been a westerner for nearly two decades now. It feels good to me.
My husband, the Perfessor, and I lived for nine years in a nearby rural farming town of less than 2000 people. We fixed up a funky 1916 prairie-style bungalow on half an acre. Do you know how much you can do on half an acre?!? I was totally immersed and rarely bored. A year ago, we had the chance to purchase an 1890 farmhouse on 2.25 acres in another nearby town (whoo baby - 2200 people!) that is cute as all getout. The Perfessor wants to turn our alfalfa field into a vineyard - get this, we are USDA zone 4 - while I want to plant trees and native grasses employing rotational grazing with goats and sheep. What do you think?
At the moment, I am listening to a local radio station which plays pop and hip hop in an attempt to appreciate it. I gotta tell you, judging by what I've heard tonight, there are still people out there making creative, imaginitive, original music. A lot of it makes me bounce up and down in my seat! But I simply don't understand why young men who refer to beautiful young women as b****s expect to treated with respect by "The Man." Duh, is the best I can say.

Welcome, Tami!
It sounds like you're all ready to get chatting....you certainly have a lot to share with us. I love the way you described your move..."It feels good to me". That just hit me in my heart. I usually rate things and experiences by how they make me feel.
I don't know much about zone 4 but it sounds like you and hubby could compromise and do both! I look forward to hearing about your happenings.

Yay!! Another Utah gal. We have another new one from Paradise..which should be near you...and a few others scattered here and there over Utah..I am in the middle of the state in Manti.
You sure sound like fun. Yep, our zone 4..not that easy to deal with. Apples would be easier than grapes I bet. But..maybe he could try a small area for grapes first and see how it goes.
The goats and sheep you MUST do..haha..guess you can see who I side with..I always think animals first.
can't wait to hear more from you..welcome to the group!!

Tami!!! Hi! I never got a chance to tell you how much we LERVED the honey you gave us. We used some of it to put up a bunch of applesauce in the fall. Miss O had so much fun running around your little farmlette. As far as sheep and goats go, well you know how I feel about them. :) Mom just acquired a "mini-flock" of Icelandic/Corriedales from Carri in N. Logan, to keep Maggie company. Poor girl was getting lonely out there with nobody but chickens.
