Hi!

Where to start? I am new to posting on message boards (I am usally too shy to do so) but all of the ideas and friendliness of this board have captured me. I begged for Mary Janes boook for Christmas, I love all of her ideas....what a better place the world would be if everyone would read it and carry out some of the messages of togtherness which she presents.
I was raised on a small dairy farm in upstate New York, and I now live on my own 70 acres. I only have two dogs (1 is a temprory adpotion for my sister-in law) and one cat. I hope to greatly expand this after I finish school. I envision pygmy goats, chickens, sheep, pigs and miniature horses roaming through pastures on my land. I love to garden, knit, bake, walk in the woods, take pictures, and help others. I have often felt like I was born in the wrong century. I think it would be a hoot to live of the land. Unfourtanlty for now I am caught in the hectic pace that is prevelant in today's society. I am looking forward to sharing ideas and thoughts with like minded people!!!
Oh, and in case you haven't picked up on this, I am a teribble speller/typist haha

Hello Stacy!

I also begged for Mary Jane's book for Christmas. Even though I knew it was under the tree; I still was thrilled to unwrap it like my children were when they opened their gifts!
What are you taking in school? I've gone back to school after being out of school since 1988. I think it's hard not to get caught up with the hectic life that many of us have to live.

Let us hear from you and don't fret about spelling... that's for grammer teachers at school to do...and as far as I know we aren't in school here!

Have a great semester!

Part of the 70 acres is nice. Upstate new york is not exacatly flat, so some of it would take work to make usable, but i still enjoy waling in the wooded/hilly section. Keeps me and the dogs in shape!! I hope to plant more fruit bearig trees on our land this year..we'll see
It is true that is so difficult not to get caught up in the hectic pace of the world, nice to know others feel the same way! I returned to school two years ago working on my masters in nursing. In May 2006 I will be a Nurse Pratitioner---god willing, haha. I love that my profession will be tied to helping others. I think it would be so cool to be the only health care provider in a rural area, serving the needs of the community. What was the name of that TV show that had a female docotr working on the frontier? My friend and I dream of having a mobile rural health clinic, maybe someday....until then I want to finish the last semester of school and hear all about the lives of the people like me !!!! Thanks for the encouragement!

Stacy

Hey Stacy!
I, too, think I was born in the wrong century! But think of it this way, we get the best of both worlds! I wonder if people 100+ years ago appreciated their way of life the way we seem to appreciate it? I got MJ's book for my birthday in October. I first spotted it in the bookstore, picked it up to look at it, and sat for quite some time scanning page after wonderful page; so I put in on my birthday list! I am doing everything I can not to get caught up in the hectic pace of today's society. I'm 20 and was homeschooled in high school and ever since, I've lived at such a slower pace. It's wonderful being able to take your time! A nurse practitioner?! That's wonderful! I admire people who go for their dreams! I really hope you're able to start your mobile health clinic! It sounds like you really truly want to help people and I'm sure you will! If I lived near you, I'd be honored to be your first patient! I'm not sure I'll ever be able to do the college thing. I tried and got totally stressed. Too fast paced for me! I'm perfectly content doing my own thing. Although it didn't work out for me, I wish you the best of luck on your studies!
Sunshine and love,
Laura

Thanks for all of the welcomes !!! Who could be shy around such a lovely group of people?? I keep trying to find a reason to be shy but, you all are to friendly!! Larua, thanks for the words of encourgement...as the semester drags on i will sure need them. I become a diffrent person while school is in session. I would be honoered to have you as my first pateint!! getting over the geography would be a difficult though ..lol. i don't know if people appreciated thier lives 100 years ago ??...some before metioned that it sure nice to have the best of both worlds. To be able to appreciate a simplir life and to live the way you want, but to still be able to take advantage of modern technologies. I read on another post, that the important thing is not what you do but that you are happy doing it..sounds like you have peace with what you are doing and that is much more important than doing something that doesn't bring you the same happiness... i am always glad to hear that people have found thier way in the world, so many search for things they think will bring them happiness, only to find what makes other happy doesn't bring them the same fufillment....okay now i am rambling. Thanks again for the welcomes!!! Peace, Stacy

Hey again Stacy!
No need to be shy here! I'm usually a very shy person in person, so it's nice to be able to open up and meet people this way. I agree that you need to find what makes you happy, not what you think will make you happy based on other peoples' happiness. There are still times I feel like I'm not up-to-par with my peers. I know so many people, my age and older, who go to college and I get frustrated because they can do it and I just can't. Really, I could if I had my mind and heart set on it, but I don't. And that's perfectly fine! I know I'll find my way. I have the support of my friends and family. But now I feel like I'm rambling!

Much love,
Laura

laura,

like you say, i am sure that you could if you wanted..it is easy to look at others and think that they have something better or are doing something better than you...when the truth maybe the complete opposite....Peace,

Stacy

Hellooo Stacy. Where is Maryland NY? Grew up in Ithaca than moved to the midwest in 1987. How wonderful to have 70 acres. I am lucky to have 6. Already busy planning the garden. Hubby just said I could get a 4 wheeler utility cart. Want to put a plow on the front and winch then a cart on back plus maybe a tiller.
I think the show you spoke of was Dr Quinn,

Yes that was her name!! Thanks for that. Maryland is between Cooperstown and Oneonta. Near the middle of the state. About 1 hour north of Binghamton (which is where I go to school). I love Ithica and the surrounding area, it is so beatiful. I only wish that I was doing more with the land that I have, after school is over. That is great about your 4 wheeler cart, handy to have some tools. Do yo ever come back to NY? Happy planting! Peace,

Stacy

Unfortunately I will probably not be returning to Ithaca any time soon. My 83 year old mom is moving here next week so I have little to bring me there. Maybe for my 25th high school reunion!
My mom went back to school in her 50's to become an RN. Her dad was a doctor and her brother in law was a hematologist(wrote several books and discovered something- Dr Alan Erslev) Wow is that a lot of work! I love your idea of a rural clinic. Good Luck!
Blessings-
Beth
