Hi everybody- I'm Sara, going as Mrs Tiggywinkle... Mainly b/c I love hedgehogs & do a LOT of laundry.
I live in Spokane, WA & was lucky enough to attend one of the Farm Gatherings a couple yrs ago. It was wonderful! Still have fond memories of those strawberry shortcakes...
I'm not a real farmgirl yet- mostly the "condition of the heart" type. But I visit my Mom's 100-acre farm in VA a few wks a year. Wish she lived closer- I've learned a lot, but not as much as I'd like. I was brought up in towns, but with farmgirl sensibility, so I suppose I'm a blend. But as I get older, the farmgirl is rarin' to come out.
Let's see... I'm 47, married, our two sons are grown & (barely) out of the house. They both live in Seattle, which gives me a great excuse to visit.
My favorite things are- cooking, reading & travelling. Last yr, I was fortunate enough to visit: Reno, Seattle, Fresno (drove from Seattle w/my sister), Virginia & Maine. This year, I got a new suitcase for Christmas, so I need to decide where to take it first.
I'm loving the first Maryjane book & it's inspired me to get out my knitting needles & embroidery hoop.
Oh, and I'm part of the apron gang- been wearing them for many yrs.
Love, Sara

Hi Sara. I live just outside of Spokane in Newman Lake. I am hosting my first farmgirl chapter meeting on the 20th, although I have yet to set an exact time of day because I am still trying to find out what time will work best for the people who may want to come. Please let me know if you are interested in joining the chapter and if there is a time of day that works better for you than others. The Spokane chapter is called the Happy Apple Society. If you do want to come the only things I am asking that you bring are any pictures of craftwork you may have done so I can make a little scrapbook to send to MJ's Farm. If you don't have anything handy it's no big deal. It's just a quick little project to get the ball rolling.
Welcome to the forums!
Bobbi

Hi Bobbi, That sounds really fun. Daytimes are best for me, but I can do evenings, too. I haven't done many projects lately, but can take a picture of my hat-in-progress...

Hi Sara -
Welcome aboard. Love the sign on name to, very cute! You'll find there are quite a few of us that really don't live on farms but are farmgirls at heart. I live in the city of Portland. Grew up on a farm, but married a "city slicker" and so now I am in urbanville. Not bad though, live in an old part of town in an old house with a big lot, so get to do a lot of gardening.
I think you will find a lot of inspiration and encouragement from this group of great gals.
Again, welcome.

Mrs Tiggywinkle, Welcome, We have something in common I also have two sons. The are 8 and 6. Far from being out of the house. I do wonder what it will be like when I hit your stage of raising boys.
I live really close to Reno, what did you think? Did you visit Lake Tahoe?
Happy to have you here on these boards, can't wait to hear more from you. Farmgirl Blessings, Theresa Ps in the the Family matters forum under topic 'all God's children' I posted pictures of my boys.... |

Good Morning Sara and welcome!!! I live just outside of Spokane 2 miles North of Fairchild Airforce Base. We have a 10 acre hobby farm that when it grows up would like to be something a little more. We are focused on being as self-sustaining as possible and I am working on becoming certified organic although I'm taking my time..The process is intense I want to get it right the first time.. I'm shooting for the next 2 years. I'm 40 and have 2 small children; my son Reo is 4 yrs and my daughter Aria is 2 yrs. So happy you jumped on board. I can't tell you how inspiring this place is!! Have wonderful rainy Saturday! Many smiles, Julia Hayes

Hi Anne in Portland, I know several city farmgirls like us. Isn't it amazing what you can do w/a city lot? I've read that "Victory Gardens" during WWII made a huge difference in food production. One of my friends has strawberries planted in her front yard & tomatoes all along her driveway.

Hi Julia- Medical Lake is a great place for your farm. That's so cool that it will be growing up w/your boys. Yes, I'm finding a lot of inspiration here. It makes my heart happy.
Hi Farmgirl Theresa- I was truly blessed to live in Loyalton, CA (just over the border from Reno) for one wonderful summer when I was 13. My dad was Soil Conservation & got transferred there & then back out. Ugh. But we had SOOO much fun there. None of us had ever been back, but had always wanted to, so I got a cheap flt to Reno & rented a car. Drove thru town, ran into a friend's dad & chatted for a while & then called a friend of my Mom's who dropped everything (with NO notice!) to tour me around & chat all day. She is such a sweet lady- an original farmgirl- maybe 80, who has just sold her farmland. She took me around & re-introduced me to half the town, I think. I'm sure winters are brutal in Sierra Valley, but summertime is something not to be missed. Love, Sara

Hi Sara! I can relate to being Mrs. Tiggywinkle as I have always wanted a hedgehog and seem to do endless laundry. Glad to have you on board, and I am sure you will be at home in no time. Julia V.

Hi Mumsie, Frannie & julia! (apologies if I've missed anyone- I'm slightly overwhelmed w/the warm welcome! Frannie- I may be back East to visit my Mom in VA this spring- that would be great to hop over a couple borders & meet you. Your cabin looks so inviting, you might need a crowbar to get me out, though. Julia, I've always wanted a hedgehog, too, but not quite enough to get one! Mumsie- that's great that you're so close. I think I've driven past the turnoff to Valley, but haven't been down that road yet. Let me know if/when you're heading into the big city (ha!) & maybe we can get together.
Love, Sara

Hey, Sara!
GREAT to see your post! What part of Spokane are you in? I'm out in the valley, work out of Coeur d'Alene, and go to the northside of Spokane a lot (Mom lives there).
I'm 48, divorced (but getting along with ex well at this time), with a wonderful ten year old daughter and two dogs. I have a couple of acres out here in the valley which I need to work on this year. I like gardening, being outdoors, camping, exploring backroads, and would like to do more hiking -- I need someone to help get me moving!
Do you drink coffee? It would be nice to get together sometime.
In what part of VA is your mom? I lived and worked atop the Blue Ridge Mtns. at Shenandoah NP in the mid-80s. LOVED it there and the Shenandoah Valley.
Welcome to Spokane and this website!
